JOHN W. REYNOLDS
Graveside services, with military honors, were held Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 at Seadrift cemetery, for John W. Reynolds, 77, of Palacios. He died Tuesday, Nov. 27. A native of Port Lavaca, he was born Nov. 20, 1923 to the late John Williams and Veinnie Miller Tippit Reynolds. A retired oilfield worker and a member of Bay City Baptist Church, Mr. Reynolds was a life member of VFW Post No. 4403, which provided military honors for the services. Survivors include the wife, June Hawes Reynolds; two daughters, Adelle Farmer of Bay City and Penni Ponder of Cummings, Ga.; and four grandchildren. EUGENE LAWRENCE DEADRICK
Funeral services for Eugene Lawrence Deadrick, 77, of Detroit, Mich., were held Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at the Church of God Prophecy in Royal Oak, Mich. He died Nov. 16, 2001. Mr. Deadrick was born Sept. 28, 1924, in the Tidehaven community to the late Lawrence Desoto and Myrtle Shannon Deadrick. Raised in Palacios, he attended public schools through the ninth grade. Drafted into the U.S. Army on April 7, 1943, he served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps in India, Guam, Saipan and other areas of the Pacific theater as a radar specialist with anti-aircraft battalions during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he moved to Corpus Christi, where he graduated from Del Mar Junior College. An electronics and radar engineer, he worked for the U.S. government for 40-plus years and was an active member of the Professional Airways Systems Specialists, Local 306. At a young age, Eugene became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and served the church in many capacities throughout his entire life. In the Corpus Christi church, he served as deacon, ABM/SOPA leader and Sunday School superintendent. When he relocated with his family to Detroit, Mich., he served as a Sunday School teacher and continued his Christian service in many areas, until his health began to fail him. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed playing pinochle, cribbage, bridge, completing crossword puzzles (with ink pens) and reading calculus books for entertainment. A voracious reader, he was always seen with at least three novels, which he read simultaneously. Eugene was married
to the late Bernice Lee Miller in 1948. Survivors include their children, Vera Brown of Victoria; Anthony L. Deadrick of Kansas City, Mo.; Denyce E. Deadrick Ware of Hartford, Conn.; Staff Sgt. E. L. Deadrick II, of Jacksonville, N.C.; and Rhonda M. Deadrick of Tempe, Ariz. Other survivors include two brothers, Larry M. and Clyde C. Deadrick of Palacios; a sister, Winnie M. Deadrick Grigsby of Missouri City, Tex.; five grandchildren, Terry Deadrick, Trenyce Deadrick, DeWayne Deadrick, Todrae Ware and Novelyn Deadrick; five great-grandchildren; uncles: Troy Shannon and James Deadrick; aunts: Calanthe "Toots" Deadrick, Virginia Lawrence, Johnnie Nelson, Dora Lewis, Martha Deadrick Matthews, Claudia Deadrick White; and Kathy McCormick and her daughter, Angela, who were very important friends and who later became instrumental in his care as his health began to diminish. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, L.D. Deadrick, Jr. Pallbearers were Courtney L. Grigsby, Willie Richardson, Charles Dobson, Brandon K. Farris, Jeffrey C. Miller and C. DeWayne Deadrick.
MILDRED ALLENE ATKINS BRUNE
Graveside services for Mildred Allene Atkins Brune, 87, of Palacios, were held Nov. 24, 2001 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Mrs. Brune was born Dec. 1, 1913 in Ganado, Tx. to the late Henry and Willie May Simpson Quinn. She died Nov. 22, 2001 at the Livingston Medical Center in Livingston, Tx. Mrs. Brune was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios and a resident of Palacios since 1924. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Ann Atkins of Coldspring, Tx.; three grandchildren, Pam Utley and husband Carroll of Houston, James Robert Atkins and wife, Candy, of Dallas; and Robby Atkins and wife, Danell, of Livingston; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J. E. Atkins and Edmond Brune; sisters Lottie Belle Hunt and Frances Peterson; and brothers Horace Quinn and Tommy Lee Quinn.
PEARL SISCO
Funeral services for Pearl Sisco, 97, of Weatherford, Tx. were held Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kent Wheeler officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Sisco was born Sept. 19, 1904 in Alvord, Wise County, Tx. to the late Mack and Nancy Williams Morrison. She died Nov. 13, 2001 in Fort Worth. She was a former resident of Palacios and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by three grandchdilrenÑGlenna Jo Wheeler of Colchester, CT., Debbie Hargett of Red Oak, Tx. and Glen Wofford of New Orleans, La; eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sisco, and a daughter, Jonell Bolander.
FRANK VILLARREAL
Funeral services for Frank Villarreal, 55, of Palacios, were held Nov. 12, 2001 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. He was born Nov. 2, 1946, in Palacios, to the late David and Betrice Lopez Villarreal. He died Nov. 9, 2001. Mr. Villerreal was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart. He was also laborer. He is survived by a daughter, Angelia Villarreal of Wharton; sisters, Shirley Reynolds of La. and Josephine Rosas of Palacios; and brothers, Gilbert Alamia of Texas City, Steve Alamia of Moss Point, Miss. and Pete Villarreal of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents.
KOBY ALLEN KACER
Rosary services for Koby Allen Kacer, 1 month, of Ganado were held Oct. 23, 2001 at Ganado Funeral Chapel in Ganado. Interment was at St. Peters Catholic Cemetary in Blessing with Rev. Samuel Appiasi officiating. Koby was born Oct. 13, 2001 in Port Lavaca, Tx. to Patrick Kacer and Janel Vasquez Kacer of Ganado. He died Oct. 21, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Patrick and Janel Kacer of Ganado; his grandparents, Janet Harvey of El Campo, A.J. Kacer of Collegeport, Lupe and Robert Vasquez of Ganado; his great-grandparents, Annie Vyvial of Ganado, Benito and Frances Rosales of Ganado and Mary Vasquez of Ganado; and his sister Megan Kacer of Ganado. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Roman Vyvial, Frank and Rosie Kacer and Vincent Vasquez. Pallbearers were David Kacer, Tony Kacer, Robbie Vasquez and Michael Anthony Mangel. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Wallace, Steve Garcia and Mike Mangel.
MINNIE OLA 'TOOTSIE' GAYLE
Funeral services for Minnie Ola 'Tootsie' Gayle, 88, of Markham, will be held at 10 a. m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Taylor Bros. Funeral home in Palacios with Revs. Andy and Janel Blair officiating. A private burial will follow. Mrs. Gayle was born Oct. 12, 1913 near Madisonville, TX. to the late Dane Lawson and Minnie Myrtle Marlin Bullington. She died at her residence Oct. 24, 2001. She was a resident of Markham since 1965, a member and supporter of the Collegeport Presbyterian Church, and loving wife of Frank A. Gayle who preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2001. Through Tootsie's generosity many young people received a college education or vocational training. She was especially concerned for the elderly and less fortunate. Through her loving generosity she helped many without their ever knowing. Tootsie will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include many nieces and nephews and special friends Charles Parr of Markham and John C. Sardelich of Palacios.
OLIVIA ALFREDA WALTERS
Graveside services for Olivia Walters, 100, of Palacios, were held Oct. 19, 2001 at Palacios cemetery with Rev. Ben Sheeran of Hochheim Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Walters was one in a set of triplets born Sept. 13, 1901 in Frankfort, Ind. to Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Elder. The other two children were Victoria Alberta who died in 1998 and Paul Adolf who drowned in front of the family home in Palacios at the age of 12. The family moved to Palacios in 1905 when Mr. Elder established the first bank in town. The family consisted of nine childrenÑWilliam, Marianna, Huldah, Ted, Jane, Victoria, Olivia, Paul and Estelle. After Olivia married
Fred Walters, administrator of Sante Fe Railroad's hospital in Topeka, Kansas, she made a name for herself as a leading hostess and volunteer worker. The couple retired to Palacios in 1978 to be in the company of Olivia's family. The Walters were active in local church and civic activities. Fred died in 1984. Mrs. Walters is survived by two sisters, Huldah Rees and Estelle Alley; and a niece and nephew. Funeral arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home.
RICHARD W. FRICK
Funeral services for Richard W. Frick, 81, of Tres Palacios Oaks, were held Oct. 11, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was at Forest Park East in League City, Tx. with Rev. Tom Pacc. Mr. Frick was born Sept. 13, 1920 in Kansas City, Mo. to the late William McKinley and Hazel Cole Frick. He died Oct. 8, 2001 at his residence. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Palacios and a resident of Tres Palacios Oaks since 1959. He was the former Postmaster in Sealy for 15 years. Mr. Frick was a very active member, and past president, of the Palacios Lions Club, Rotary Club in Sealy and the Methodist Mens Club. He was a former partner in the Hudson Oil Co. of Texas. He was instrumental in forming the Little League organization in Houston and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his wife, LaNell DeWees Frick of Tres Palacios Oaks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Kay and Bruce Kenner of Katy, and RaMona and Erik Heen of Sugarland; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Frick of Friendswood, George R. 'Bob' and Carolyn Frick of Orlando, Fla., and Lantz M. and Chandra Norris of Denver, Col; a sister, Norma J. Myer of Albuquerque, NM; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances C. Frick. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were members of the Palacios Lions Club and the Methodist Mens Club. LOUIS J. HICKL, SR.
A rosary for Louis J. Hickl, Sr., 80, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating, Interment will be at at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery in Blessing. Rosary was held 7 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He died Monday, Oct. 8. Mr. Hickl was born July 17, 1913 in Sealy to the late John and Julie Hickl. He died Oct. 8, 2001. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Southwest Pacific Theatre and at Guadalcanal from 1941 to 1945, receiving two Bronze Stars. Following his discharge from the Army, he married
Edith Vacek. His work career consisted of radio repair work with Bill Holub from 1945 to 1950; operator for America Petrafina from 1950 to 1957; and a carpenter with Eugene Harvey from 1957 to 1976. He was also a rancher and farmer. He was a member of the VFW, KJT, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. For 16 years, he was a director for Matagorda County Drainage District III. From 1954 to present, he devoutly participated as a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Parish. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Edith; sons, Louis Jr. and wife Sandra, Dennis and wife Donna; Father Bob Hickl, OMI; Pat and wife Cheryl, and Gary and wife Polly; daughters, Carolyn Kubecka and husband Ronnie, and Mary Ann Shimek and husband Troy; brothers; August, Jessie, Joe and Lawrence Hickl; sister: Louise Saha; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; brothers, Willie, John and Edward Hickl; and a sister, Annie Holub. Pallbearers are Ed Hickl, Jr., John Hickl, Jr., E.R. Vacek, J.D.
