ROQUE CASTILLO CHACON
A rosary for Roque Castillo Chacon, 20, of Palacios, will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at St. Anthony's De Padua Catholic Church in Palacios. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be at Cemeterio El Carmen Tequexquitla in El Carmen Tequexquitla, Mexico. Mr. Chacon was born Dec. 22, 1980 in El Camen Tequexquitla, Tlaxcala, Mexico to Djose Manuel Castillo Ramirez and Dominga Chacon. He died Sept. 2, 2001. He was a commerical shrimper at WW Dock in Palacios and was a Catholic. He is survived by his parents; and sisters Isabel Castillo Chacon and Adrianna Castillo Chacon, both of El Carmen Tequexquitla, Mexico.
ELLA TUCKER NEUMAN
Funeral services for Ella Tucker Neuman, 81, of Midfield, were held September 1, 2001 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Interment was in Midfield cemetery. Mrs. Neuman was born March 28, 1920 in Edna to the late Augusta C. and Connie Keith Darnell. She died August 29, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve J. Neuman in 1979 and daughter, Wanda N. Rickaway in 1985. Mrs. Neuman is survived by sons, Bobby Neuman of Port Lavaca, George Neuman of Blessing, Tommy Neuman of Lolita and Johnny Neuman of Dallas; sister, Myrtle Morrison of Oklahoma City, OK; son-in-law, Frank E. Rickaway of Blessing; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Neuman's grandsons, Randy Rickaway and Chad Huddleston of Blessing, Allen Neuman of Gonzales, Kyle Neuman of Victoria and Bryan and Chris Neuman of Edna, served as pallbearers.
OLGA DARLENE SAWYER
Funeral services for Olga Darlene Sawyer, 82, were held August 23, 2001 at the Chapel of Crowder Funeral Home in Clear Lake. Interment was in the Forest Park East cemetery in Webster. Mrs. Sawyer was born February 1, 1919 in Broaddus, Texas to the late Skillern and Lydia Bell. She died August 21, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 39 years, James A. Sawyer, an infant son, brothers, Littleton and Early Harvey and a sister, Veralene Harvey. She is survived by daughters, Glynis Sawyer of Houston, Marilyn Livingston and husband Joseph of Anna, Texas; son, Deril Oliver and wife Ginger of Texas City; sisters, Beaulah Carrick and Marcelene Mull; brother, Ramon Harvey of Palacios; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Craig Fisher, Randy Livingston, Ronnie Oliver, Keith Oliver, Sr., Keith Oliver, Jr., and Deril Wayne Oliver served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Oliver, Mark Sees, Brent Jeffries, David Baker and Gary Sawyer. Memorials may be made to the Texas Heart Institute.
FRANK A. GAYLE
Funeral services for Frank A. Gayle, 93, of Markham, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with Revs. Andy and Janell Blair officiating. The family will have a private burial. Mr. Gayle was born July 18, 1908 in Crockett, Tx. to Franklin A. Gayle and Essie Leathers Gayle. He died Aug. 26, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Minnie G. "Tootsie" Gayle of Markham; sisters Essie Richey and Regina Burford, both of Houston; brother W. F. "Billy" Gayle of DeSoto, Tx.; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends Charles Parr of Markham, John c. Sardelich of Palacios, and Johnny Henderson and Doug Gayle of LaWard, Tx. Mr. Gayle was instrumental in forming the Texas Gas Association and was recognized for his substantial and enduring contribution to the natural gas industry in Texas. He was presented a Life Member Award by the Texas Gas Association on June 26, 1985. He owned and operated the Markham Gas Corp. from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. Through his generosity, many young people received college educations and vocational training. Mr. Gayle was especially concerned for the elderly and less fortunate and through his loving generosity helped many without them ever knowing. Mr. Gayle will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him. Men like Frank Gayle are what other men should strive to be with examples that he practiced with faith in his God and love of family and friends. Funeral arrangements are with Taylor Bros. MATTIE DEE WHITLEY HEBERT
Funeral services for Mattie Dee Whitley Hebert, 69, of Palacios, were held Aug. 27, 2001 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Hebert was born Jan. 20, 1912 in El Campo, Tx. to the late Lidge Dee and Beulah Mae Lynch Whitley. She died Aug. 24, 2000. A former longtime resident of Markham, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Junek of Palacios, and Joy and David King of Houston; two sons and daughters-in-law, A. J. and Pat Hebert of Palacios, Shelton and Janie Hebert of Victoria; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. J. Hebert; sisters Verlie Mae Steinmeyer and Lavada Etta Shivers; and a brother, Ross Whitley. Pallbearers were her grandsons Larry and Bruce Junek, Philip, Charles and Steven King, and Nathan Demicelli. Honorary pallbearers were the remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
ROSALIE N. GARZA
A Rosary for Rosalie N. Garza, 60, formerly of Palacios, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios with Rev. James Nischan officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Garza was born Nov. 12, 1940 in Charco, Tx. to the late Andres and Maria Nevarez Garza. She died Aug. 20, 2001. She had been a resident of Houston for the past 31 years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Ricardo Rojas of Pearland, Tx.; a son, Michael Garza of Houston; sisters Genoveva Estrello and Angie Samora of Palacios, Rebecca Garza, Lucy Sanchez and Teresa Avalos of Houston; brothers Cesario Garza of Freeport, Andres Garza, Jr. of Port Lavaca, and Albert Garza of Sugarland; grandchildren Alex and Ricky Rojas, and Sandy, Michael, and Priscilla Garza of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Evangelina Garcia and Yolanda Rodriguez. Pallbearers are Gary, Andy and Larry Garza, Kenny and David Sanchez, Darryl Gallardo and Mario Rodriguez. Mrs. Villarreal passed away on Aug, 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Arnulfo Castillo Villarreal; daughters Mary Villarreal- Elizondo and Eva De Leon both of Houston; sons Robert Juarez of Baytown, and Ancelmo Juarez, Jr. of Louisiana; sisters Josephine Brionez, Lenora Sosa, Antonia Ramirez and Ester Martinez all of Houston; brother Carlos Uresti of Houston; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for C.C. "Bub" Lawson Jr., 85, of Palacios, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment will be at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Lawson was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Floresville, to the late Grover Gem Sr. and Esma C. Lawson. He died Aug. 9, 2001. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He owned and operated Radio and T.V. Repair Shop. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Lawson of Palacios; niece, Helen Lawson of Bay City; and nephew, Carl R. Lawson of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Amy Lawson; parents; and brother, Henry J. Lawson.
OCTAVIO ASOCAR ALAMIA
Funeral services for Octavio Asocar Alamia, 78, of Palacios, were held Friday, Aug. 10, 2001 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Alamia was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Gulf, to the late Julio and Marguerita Asocar Alamia. He died Aug. 7, 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He is survived by hiswife, Lorenza Morales Alamia; daughters Estella Alamia and Alfa Flores, both of Palacios, and Amparo Brangan of San Antonio; stepdaughters Mary Duran of Palacios and Isabel Garcia of San Antonio; stepsons Jesse Alvarez and Tony Alvarez, both of Palacios; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ellen Hebert and Didia Morales; and brothers, Gantran Alamia and Arthur Alamia.

Funeral services for Benny DeLeon, 67, of Palacios, were held Aug. 4 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Tony Flores officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. DeLeon was born March 21, 1934 in Pleasanton, Tx. to Daniel DeLeon and Dolores Lopez DeLeon. He died Aug. 2, 2001. He was a long time resident of Palacios, a member of the Catholic Church, a retired police officer with the Palacios Police Dept., and a veteran of the U. S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Dora Longoria DeLeon of Palacios; daughters Patricia Sanchez of Brazoria, Diana Pena of West Columbia, Mary Ellen Roecker of Lake Jackson, Lisa Halfen of Dubia, U.A.E., Lori Cruz of Bay City, and Karen DeLeon-Bailes of Angleton; sons Benny Joe DeLeon, David DeLeon and Robert DeLeon, all of Palacios; sisters Mary Smith of Bay City, Pauline Garcia of Katy, Mary Cascrez of Pleasanton, Sophia DeLeon of California, and Minga Garcia of Galveston; brother Daniel DeLeon of Houston; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Dolores DeLeon, and a brother, Joe DeLeon.

Mr. Doby was born October 10, 1924 in Waynesboro, Mississippi. He died July 15, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Miriam "Mim" Long Doby; daughters, Diane Doby and Jayne Doby Steward; son, Gary W. and wife Kathy Doby; four grandchildren, Samantha Olivares and husband Serik, Spencer Steward, Lauren and Cameron Doby; 4 great grandchildren, Serik Anthony, Savannah, Sophia, and Sonny Olivares; nephew, Gregory J. Doby and wife Kim; great nieces, Elizabeth Gonzales and Sara McCarthy.
