Graveside services for Evelyn May Arnold, 83, of El Campo, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Charlie Parker of the First Methodist Church of Palacios officiating. Visitation is at 10 a.m. Friday, July 13 at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo. Mrs. Arnold was born Dec. 18, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Frederick Lamphier and Etta Nielsson Duchemin Lamphier. She died July 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Horace Arnold of El Campo; daughters Mary Ann Sexton of Palacios, Betty Mosier of Elkhart, Tx. and Sue Peal of Corpus Christi, Tx.; a brother, Frederick Bruce Lamphier of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. CLAIR WILLIAM LYNN
Funeral services for Clair William Lynn, 81, of Palacios, were held July 5, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with the Revs. Andy and Janell Blair officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Lynn was born Nov. 21, 1919 in Mason City, Ill. to the late Addison Clair and Gladys Riggins Lynn. He died July 2, 2001. He was a longtime farmer, veteran of World War II, a member of the Elks, American Legion, Palacios Lions Club, and NRA. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lynn of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law Anne and Larry Krup of Peoria, Ill., Elizabeth Lynn and Edward Brown of Houston, Laura Jeanne Van Riper of Peoria, Ill., and Peggy Pitman of Palacios; a son, Clair William and his wife, Karen of Jasper, Ill; sisters Mary Lou Fehrenbacher, Anna Mae Held, and Linda Louis McDaniel; brothers Walter I. Lynn, Robert R. Lynn, Richard S. Lynn, Kenneth Lynn, and James E. Lynn; and grandchildren Christopher W. Lynn, Jonathan D. Lynn and Jennifer Elizabeth Lynn. He was preceded in death by two wives, Martha and Kay; his parents; and brothers Jack Cates Lynn and Logan Lynn. Pallbearers were Jim Hampton, Harlin Fowler, Earl Scheley, John Toellner, Bob Christianson, Jack Waechter, Rudolph Mosier and Royce Harvey. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Landscaping Fund or the Legacy Foundation. Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral.
ROBERT M. 'BOB' BELLAH
Funeral services for Robert M. 'Bob' Bellah, 54, of Palacios, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Janell Blair officating. Interment will be at Hawley cemetery in Blessing. Mr. Bellah was born Aug. 23, 1946 in Lexa, Ark. to Guy Maxwell Bellah and Evelyn Cherry Bellah. He died June 27, 2001 in Wharton, Tx. He was a resident of Tres Palacios Oaks for the past 16 years and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Houston and a member of Pipefitters Local #211. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Rocha Bellah of Palacios; a son, Robert Marshall Bellah, Jr. of Houston; step-children Rebecca, Christie, Roberta, Ricky and Alvin Torres, and Martin Rocha, all of Palacios; a sister, Ann Dorsey of Oklahoma; brothers Guy Bellah, Jr. of Missouri, Tony Long and Ray Long, both of Illinois; and by two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Evelyn Bellah, and a brother, J. W. Long.
WALTER ELLIOTT KILGORE
Graveside funeral services for Walter Elliott Kilgore, 74, of Palacios, were held June 26, 2001 at the Palacios cemetery with Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Mr. Kilgore was born Sept. 30, 1926 in Palacios to the late Walter B. and Leona Wright Kilgore. He died June 22, 2001 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. Walter had a long life with a variety of experiences that included farming, ranching, owning and operation Kilgore Brothers Truck Line, law enforcement career with the Palacios Police Dept., Matagorda County Sheriff's Dept. and Ingleside Police Dept. where he was the Assistant Chief. He was also a longtime past member of the Palacios VFD. He and his wife, Nettie, of 52 years who preceded him in death on May 8, 2000, were both born and raised in Palacios. They will both be missed and their family and friends know they are now together again. He is survived by a son, Keith Kilgore of Palacios, daughters and sons-in-law Karla and Jerry Carr of Crockett, and Cindy and Mark Petersen of Leander, Tx.; sisters and brother-in-law Vera Lou and Jim Sprayberry of Marshall, Tx. and Lottie Anderson of Port Lavaca, Tx.; brother and sister-in-law H. L. "Lewis" and Ruth Kilgore of Woodsboro, Tx.; and six grandchildren.
MARY RUTH ABRAHAMSON
Funeral services for Mary Ruth Abrahamson, 70, of Mission, Tx. were held June 23, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios with Rev. Charlie Parker officiating. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. Mrs. Abrahamson was born May 21, 1931 in Telephone, Tx. to the late Clyde and Eva Owens Edwards. She died June 20, 2001 in Mission, Tx. A former resident of the Palacios area, she was a past state officer of the Texas Extension Homemaker Association. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Bosma of Mission, Tx.; daughters Deborah Mouser and Denise Clark, both of Albertlea, Minn.; sons Larry Abrahamson of Austin, Rick Abrahamson of Yoakum, Tx., Davis Bosma and Doug Bosma, both of Emmons, Minn.; sisters Sarah Baber of Houston, Juanita Shoemaker of Port Lavaca, Betty Jo Arliss of Houston, and June Westerholm of Port Lavaca; brothers H. G. Edwards of Paris, Tx., Clyde Edwards of Weatherford, Tx., Charles Edwards of Honey Grove, Ts., and Max Edwards of Cleveland, TN.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence E. Abrahamson. Pallbearers were Harry Frankson, Billy Stuhrenberg, Mark Greenawalt, Bryant Peterson, Stanley Dierlam, Brother Frankson, and Bill Miller.

Funeral services for Maximo Gatica, 95, of Palacios were held June 29, 2001 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officating. Interment was be at Palacios cemetery. Mr. Gatica was born Nov. 22, 1905, in Matagorda, to the late Antonio and Simona Camacho Gatica. He died June 27, 2001. He was a retired shrimper and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He is survived by sisters, Dominga Solis and Paula Rivas, both of Palacios; and brothers, Leon Gatica and Herman Gatica Sr., both of Palacios. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bessie Diaz and Sabina Gatica; and brothers, Monico Gatica, Lino Gatica and Frank Gatica.
WANDA MARIE RICKAWAY
Funeral services for Wanda Marie Rickaway, 75, of San Antonio, were held June 20, 2001 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Lynn officiating. Interment was at Hawley cemetery. Mrs. Rickaway was born Feb. 6, 1926 in Blessing, Tx. to the late John Charles and Beulah Belle Maynard White. She died June 16, 2001 at the Hearthstone in San Antonio. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Braunsfels, a resident of San Antonio for the past three years, and of New Braunsfels for four years. She was a former longtime resident of Blessing where she retired as a postal clerk with the U. S. Postal Service. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sandra Rickaway of San Antonio; grandsons Ronald Rickaway, Jr. and companion Eva Walderman of San Antonio, and Gregory Rickaway of Bay City; a sister, Tracy Lockey of LaMarque, Tx.; and a brother, Arthur White of LaWard, Tx. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. L. Rickaway, and a daughter, Jeanette Schultz. Pallbearers were Sterling Barrett Jr., Carl Wayne Barrett, Ronald Rickaway Jr., Gregory Rickaway, Fred Rickaway, and Donald White.
PAUL EDWARD FIELDS
Funeral services for Paul Edward Fields, 54, of Mason, Tex., were held June 27, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Palacios. The Revs. Hollas Hoffman and Charlie Parker officiated. Interment was at Palacios cemetery. He died Saturday, June 23 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. A native of Port Arthur, he was born Oct. 27, 1946 to Edna Fields of Palacios and the late Paul Fields. A graduate of Sam Houston State College, with a degree in criminal justice, he served as Sheriff of Kerr County for seven years. For the past five years, he was employed as a teacher and coach with the Hays Consolidated ISD in Kyle. He had been a resident of Mason for the past 10 years and formerly resided in Harper, Ingram, Kerrville and Hunt. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mason. Survivors in addition to his mother include a daughter, Paula Fields of Comfort; a son, Russell Fields of Ennis; and two brothers, Bryan Lee Fields of Tres-Palacios and Ron Fields of Palacios.
TOMMIE JOE (T. J.) CHANIK
Memorial services for Tommie Joe (T. J.) Chanik, 55, of Palacios were pending, as of Monday. He died Monday, June 25, 2001 at Palacios Health Care. A native of Palacios, he was born Oct. 18, 1945 to the late Adolph Tom and Annie Lee Knapp Chanik. A veteran of U.S. Army service, T. J. lived most of his life in Matagorda County. He was a volunteer for the Palacios Food Pantry and the Senior Citizen Center. Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Claudette Brown of Wyoming; two sons, Edward Ottis Chanik of Odessa and Lyndell Joe Chanik of Port Lavaca; one brother, Forrest Chanik of Markham; five sisters, Mittie Glass of Houston, Joyce Cowgar of Markham, Olita Nance of Smithville, Martha Chanik of Palacios and Kay Dry of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Laurie Elizabeth Bass of Odessa and Larry Joe Hunt of Houston; and one great-grandson, Zade Draven. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Rose Chanik, Geneva Chanik Smith and Lillie Ann Chanik McElroy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
AMIE SUZANNE HARRISON
Funeral rites for Amie Suzanne Harrison, 31, of Houston were held Monday, June, 25, 2001 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport, followed by interment at Lamar cemetery in Lamar, Tex. She died Thursday, June 21. She was born March 19, 1970 in New Orleans, La., to Tom and Gail Hamlin of Rockport. A resident of Houston for the past nine years, she taught dancing, gymnastics and music. She also sang with several local bands in Houston. Survivors in addition to her parents include a sister, Emilie Grace Hamlin of LaPorte; maternal grandmother, Bernice Glowka of Rockport; paternal grandmother, Edna Hamlin of Palacios; and a special nephew, Zachery Schnieder of LaPorte.
SYLVIA ANN MORALES GOMEZ
A rosary for Sylvia Ann Morales Gomez, 47, of Bay City, will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Gomez was born March 12, 1954, in Palacios, to Beatrice Hernandez Morales of Rosenburg and the late Hilbert Morales. She died June 11, 2001. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Francisco R. Gomez; daughters, Blanca Estelle Gomez of Plano, Susan Yvonne Gomez of Bay City and Stephanie Ann Gomez of San Angelo; son, Francisco R. Gomez Jr. of Brenham; mother; sisters, Linda Mendoza of Missouri City and Alice Morales of Fort Worth; brothers, Richard Morales of Houston and Vincent Morales of Rosenburg; and three grandchildren.
