Betty May Whittaker
Betty May Whittaker, 65, of Nocona, TX passed away on February 1, 2002 at Horizon Manor Nursing Home in Nocona, TX.
Mrs. Whittaker was born on October 17, 1936 to Ernest and Veola Tate Petty in Wichita Co., TX. She did domestic work and was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whittaker were held on February 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel with Ken Maher officiating. Interment was held in Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Gary Whittaker, Detroit, Michigan and Ricky Whittaker, Kamay, TX; one sister, Ruby Louise Hamric, Wichita Falls, TX; one brother, Charles Petty, Nocona, TX; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Petty; her mother, Veola Tate Perry; one son, Gordon Petty; and three brothers.
Edward Franklin Bonner
Edward Franklin Bonner, 88, of Forestburg, TX passed away on February 1, 2002 in Centerville, Texas.
Mr. Bonner was born on July 26, 1913 in Montague County, Texas to O.H. and Ida J. Kuykendall Bonner. He married Nannie Mae Kelley on May 15, 1937 in Gainesville, Texas. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1946-47. Mr. Bonner retired from Victor Equipment Co. in Denton, Texas and also worked as a farmer and rancher most of his life. He became a member of the Forestburg Church of Christ in the year 2000, and loved gardening and being with people.
Funeral services for Mr. Bonner were held on Sunday, February 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Forestburg Church of Christ with C.E. "Sonny" Cole officiating with Loyd Morris assisting. Interment followed in Hardy Cemetery, Montague, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, TX.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marcia Carr, Centerville, TX and Becky Bryant, Spring, TX; one son, Edward Thomas Bonner, Muenster, TX; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandsons and one niece, Marie Parr of Lake Kiowa, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.H. and Ida J. Bonner and his wife, Nannie Mae Bonner on November 12, 1987.
Lois N. Noble
Lois N. Noble, 73, of Bowie, TX, passed away on February 4, 2002 in Bowie.
Mrs. Noble was born on May 18, 1928 in Nocona, TX. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Baptist faith and a member of the Reddy McClellan VFW Post #8789 Ladies Auxiliary were she served as President and Poppy Chairman.
Services for Mrs. Noble were held on February 6, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Wiseman officiating. Interment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Survivors include: three daughters, Patsy Patterson of Bowie, TX, Ginger Slocum of Midland, TX and Rita Knox of Snyder, TX; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Jo Carlisle of Bowie, TX and Frances Heck Hutson of Germantown, MD; four brothers, Leroy Hutson, Charlie Hutson and Gene Hutson, all of Bowie, TX and Gerald Hutson of Snyder, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Garland Hutson and Lola Bell Hutson; one brother, William Alfred Hutson; and her husband, Clarence Noble on June 14, 1995.
Pallbearers were: Jeff Patterson, Tommy Patterson, Chris Hilborn, Seth Knox, Josh Knox, and Steven Ulbig.
Mabel Kirkland
Mabel Kirkland, 93, of Big Spring, passed away on February 6, 2002 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Kirkland was born on September 18, 1908 in White, AR. She married Cecil Kirkland and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Kirkland was an active member of College Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school for 65 years. She also taught study groups and training union. Mrs. Kirkland was a homemaker.
Services for Mrs. Kirkland were held on February 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in Myers and Smith Chapel in Big Spring with Rev. Ken McMeans officiating.
Survivors include: two sons, Ben Kirkland of Bowie, TX and Joe Kirkland of Big Spring, TX; one daughter, Della Cooper of Big Spring, TX; four grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil in September 1969; two grandchildren, three brothers, and four sisters.
Rose Zetta Blake
Rose Zetta Blake, 93, of Nocona, TX passed away on January 26, 2002 at Horizon Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Blake was born on August 8, 1908 in Spanish Fort, TX to George Riley and Martha Ann Martin Hatfield. She married John Edward Blake on February 11, 1923. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Nocona.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blake were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. J. W. Idell and Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was held in Molsbee Chapel Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: five children, Louise Belcher, Willie Mae Henry, and Floy Ames, all of Nocona, TX, Loy Bowman, Fort Smith, AR and Johny Blake, Winona, TX; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Blake, on June 9, 1969.
Pallbearers included: Lesley Godbey, Wesley Godbey, David Bowman, Virgil Blake, Tommy Belcher and Jason Reaves.
Donna Marcille Howard
Donna Marcille Howard, 65, of Nocona, TX passed away on January 25, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Howard was born on October 12, 1936 in Copper, Texas to Haney Harry and Lucille Bell Sutton. She married Harold H. Howard in 1956 in Gainesville, TX. She was the Administrator of Horizon Manor Nursing Home in Nocona and a Catholic.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard were held on Sunday, January 27, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Parks and Carol Keck officiating. Interment was held in Liberty Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona, TX.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Harold Howard, Nocona, TX; three children, Sam and David Howard, both of Nocona, TX and Lou Ann Shipley, Ringgold, TX; one sister, Margaret Sutton, Dallas, TX; two brothers, Bob Sutton, Nocona, TX and Dr. Bill Sutton, Houston, TX; her step-mother, Mrs. Ruth Sutton, Nocona, TX; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Earline L. Barcroft
Earline L. Barcroft, 80, of Nocona, TX passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2002.
Mrs. Barcroft was born on September 27, 1921 in Comanche County. She had been an Arlington resident for 50 years, and had lived in Nocona for the last three years. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Nocona and had been a charter member of Woodland West Baptist Church of Arlington.
Graveside services for Mrs. Barcroft were held on Thursday, January 31, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Services were directed by Moore Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Mason "Bo" Barcroft; one stepson, Vernon Barcroft, Nocona, TX; one brother, Glenn Jenkins, Chandler; four granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one nephew and three nieces.
