Joan Parr, 70, of Ringgold, TX, passed away on April 5, 2002 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Parr was born on June 7, 1932 in Pike County, Mississippi to David Lee and Mary Louis Carruth McDaniel. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ringgold, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parr were held Monday, April 8th, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Scott-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eldon Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Ringgold Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Tom Parr of Ringgold, TX; one sister, Freida Williams of Summitt, MS; one grandson, Kevin Ramsey and one great granddaughter, Kaeleigh Ramsey.
Thelma Overstreet Bledsoe
Thelma Overstreet Bledsoe, 85, of Bowie, TX passed away on Saturday, April 6th, 2002 in Bowie.
Mrs. Bledsoe was born on April 17, 1916 in Bowie. She graduated from Bowie High School where she set a girls basketball scoring record in 1932 as a sophomore. She and Bud Bledsoe were married on September 27, 1941 in Bowie. She was a room mother all 12 years for both of her children attending school in Archer City where they resided for 25 years before moving back to Bowie in 1977. Mrs. Bledsoe was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bledsoe were held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating and Rev. Ben Wiseman assisting. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie. Services were under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Jill Bledsoe, Bowie; one son, Joe Bledsoe of Whitney, TX; one sister, Katye Bradley of Bowie; two granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two faithful companions, Buddy and Tuffy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Bledsoe in 1984.
Anthony Amato
Anthony Amato, 76, of Bowie, TX passed away on April 6, 2002.
Mr. Amato was born on February 7, 1926 in Chicago, IL. He was a retired car dealer and a World War II Navy Veteran.

Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Debbie Morgan, Bowie, TX; one son Tony Amato, Schaumberg, IL; three grandchildren, Shawn and Kevin Morgan, both of Bowie, TX and Jennifer Amato, Schaumberg, IL. He was preceded in death by one brother, Sam Amato in 1998 and his grandson, Tony Amato in 2001.
Katherine Hutson
Katherine Hutson, 79, of Duncan, OK passed away on April 11, 2002 in a Duncan hospital.
Mrs. Hutson was born on June 11, 1922 in Love County, OK to Richard Lee and Effie Kuykendall Slaten. She married Earl Jack Hutson on June 10, 1960 in San Angelo, TX. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services for Mrs. Hutson were held on Friday, April 12, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Ringgold Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Parks officiating. Services were directed by Jerry Woods Funeral Home of Nocona, TX.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Jack Hutson, Duncan, OK; one son, Tracey Large, Comanche, OK; one stepdaughter, Jean Moellering, Iowa Park, TX; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Melton Roy Large and Trenton Lewis Large.
Forrest Glenn Winton
Glenn Winton, 95, passed away on April 7, 2002 in Waco, Texas.
Mr. Winton was born on December 15, 1906 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He moved to Bowie at an early age with his parents, Robert A. and Mae Winton. He married Claudia Annetta Tozier on May 30, 1938 in Kilgore, TX. He was employed as Maintenance Supervisor of the Key and Lock Department at Texas Tech University. He retired from Texas Tech University after 19 years of service.
Survivors include: his wife, Claudia Winton, Waco, TX; one sister, Vana Winton, Bowie, TX; and one brother, Robert C. Winton, Lubbock, TX.
Marian Gibbs
Marian Garrett Gibbs, 82, of Marlin passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002 at a Waco hospital.
Mrs. Gibbs was born August 12, 1919 in Falls, County to Sanford Q. and Agnes Mitchell Garrett. She was a retired school teacher, a member of Presbyterian church and a 48 year resident of Marlin. She was the second of seven children, married Garland Gibbs on August 31, 1941, in Cleburne, published poetry, was a member of the National Women’s Press Association and served as treasurer. She also was a member of Vocational Home Economics Association and Falls County Historical Committee. She served on the Women’s Council and taught Sunday school at her church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gibbs were held on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Phillips officiating. Interment was held in Stranger Cemetery.
Survivors include: three sons, John Gibbs, Corinth, TX, David Gibbs, Fort Worth, TX and Gary Gibbs, Huntsville, TX; four grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joydelle Wolfram, Marlin, TX and Margaret Dison, Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 1, 1976.
Pallbearers included: Stephen Reinke, Rick Tennyson, and grandsons, Paul Gibbs, Dr. Mark Gibbs, Craig Gibbs and Brian Gibbs.
J. N. Cardwell
J. N. Cardwell, 90, of Nocona, TX passed away on April 15, 2002.
Mr. Cardwell was born on October 18, 1911 in Montague County, TX to John Nathaniel and Docia Eustice Cardwell. He married Clara Elizabeth Goldsmith on April 11, 1942. He was a retired oil field pipe supply and served in the U.S. Army Engineer Corp from 1942-1945.
Funeral services for Mr. Cardwell were held on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. Don Hendrix and Robert Fenoglio officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Clara Cardwell, Nocona, TX; three children, John, Toni and Susan; and two grandchildren, Meghan and Whitney Cardwell.
J. B. Jones
J. B. Jones, 85, of Gainesville, TX passed away on April 16, 2002.
Mr. Jones was born on September 26, 1916 in Saint Jo, TX to James Harvey and Mattie Lou Clift Jones. He was a retired oilfield worker, a rancher and a member of the Solomon Class at First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held on Wednesday, April 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. J. L. Williams officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Survivors include: three sisters, Anna Prather, CA, Jean Moore, Waco, TX and Hope Chamber, Sherman, TX; two brothers, Paul and Pete Jones, both of Gainesville, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby "Mitsie" Keck Jones, one baby boy, three sisters and four brothers.
