Wayne McArthur Ratliff, 68, of Nocona, TX passed away on April 16, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mr. Ratliff was born on May 5, 1933 in Sudan, TX to Arthur and Sula Susie King Ratliff. He was retired from highway construction and truck driving.
Graveside services for Mr. Ratliff were held on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Nocona Cemetery with Rev. Edwin Brooks officiating.
Survivors include: seven children, Delane Hancock, Elgin, IL, Donald Ratliff, Houston, TX, Janie Matejka, Needville, TX, Dorothy Guderian, Houston, TX, Frances Goodrum, West Columbia, TX, Daniel and Ricky Ratliff, both of Nocona, TX; one sister, Gwen Robertson, Shamrock, TX; one sister-in-law, Jimmie Ratliff; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Vicy Jane (Dunlap) Chapin
Vicy Jane (Dunlap) Chapin, 68, of Saint Jo, TX passed away on April 15, 2002.
Mrs. Chapin was born on December 10, 1933 in Axtell, TX to Hampton Marcus and Lucy Dorriss Dunlap. She married James Edward Chapin on May 19, 1948 in Fort Worth, TX. She was a homemaker and loved cooking and caring for her family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chapin were held on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Shepard of the Hills Baptist Church in Nocona, TX with Rev. Walter Haynie officiating. Interment was held in Mt. Olivet in Fort Worth, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Becky Bolton, Nocona Hills, TX and Neila Waddle, Poolville, TX; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Lou Hinton, Fort Worth, TX; three brothers, James and Mark Dunlap, both of Fort Worth, TX and William Dunlap, Mt. Calm, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Tommy, two sisters, Winnie Dunlap and Clara Elizabeth Powell; three brothers, Clyde, Hampton and Harold Dunlap; two infant brothers and one infant sister.
Pallbearers included: Charles Bolton, James Bolton, Jr., Michael Holder, Larry Waddle, Larry Peters, and Kenneth Peters.
Oma Ruth Rich
Oma Ruth Rich, 80, of Piedmont, Missouri passed away on April 19, 2002 at Clarks Mountain Care Center in Piedmont.
Mrs. Rich was born on September 25, 1921 in Texas. She was a homemaker and married John Joseph Rich on September 25, 1940 in Saint Jo, TX.
Graveside services for Mrs. Rich were held on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Coker Cemetery in Cooke Co. with C. E. "Sonny" Cole officiating. Services were directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Caroline Hughes, Camdenton, MO and Barbara Fogarty, Lee’s Summit, MO; four sons, Clifford Rich, Saint Jo, TX, John Rich, Jr., Piedmont, MO, Paul Rich, Sevierville, TN, and Larry Rich, Sacramento, CA; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Owen Cannon, Jr., Itasca, TX, Tedda Cannon, Fort Worth, TX and Robert Cannon, Crowley, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 20, 1997.
Marilyn Guthrie
Marilyn Guthrie, 70, of Nocona, TX passed away on April 20, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Guthrie was born on July 24, 1931 in Cleburne, TX to Forney and Mable James McClendon. She married Wm. G. (Bill) Guthrie on June 7, 1950 in Lovington, NM. She was a homemaker and worked for Nocona Boot and Nocona Belt Co. She was a charter member of the Shepard of the Hills Baptist Church in Nocona; was a Sunday School Teacher at Sheperd of the Hills; was a member of the Nocona Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at Horizon Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Guthrie were held on Monday, April 22, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Sheperd of the Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Walter Haynie officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home of Nocona.
Surviving relatives include: four daughters, Linda Magers, Henrietta, TX Peggy Nuetzman, Smith River, CA, Connie Sawyer, Denton, TX, and Marilyn Bishop, Rocky Hill, SC; two sons, Wm. G. (Gary) and Ronnie Guthrie, both of Henrietta, TX; four sisters, Dorothy Frazier, Adell, TX, Leta Lemons and Evelyn Smith, both of Wichita Falls, TX, and Maxine Young, Iowa Park, TX; one brother, Ralph McClendon, Mineral Wells, TX; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Guthrie on July 6, 1986.
Pallbearers included: her grandsons, Steven Magers, Rowdy Magers, Jeff Sawyer, David Ross, Scott Abernethy, and Dean Guthrie. Honorary pallbearer was D. J. Guthrie.
Floyd A. Bynum
Floyd A. Bynum, 74, of Bowie, TX passed away on April 20, 2002 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Bynum was born on February 25, 1928 in Dallas County, TX. He was an Industrial Arts teacher in Bowie ISD for 34 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge #578 A.F. & A.M. and a 32th Scottish Rite Mason. He married Betty Hardaway on August 5, 1950 in McKinney, TX.
Funeral services for Mr. Bynum were held on Monday, April 22, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gail Zoya officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, TX.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Betty Bynum, Bowie, TX; three daughters, Nancy Headley, Kansas City, KS, Jean Richards, Irving, TX, and Patricia Johnson, St. Louis, MO; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: his son-in-laws, Doug Headley, John Richards, Craig Johnson, and his grandsons, Justin Richards, Steven Johnson and Brian Johnson.
Leonard W. Brokaw
Leonard W. Brokaw, 75, of Bowie, TX passed away on April 19, 2002 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Brokaw was born on June 17, 1926 in Rook County Stockton, KS. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a structural engineer from 1971 until his retirement in 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy during World Ward II. Mr. Brokaw married Bobby Jo Pigg on February 25, 1995 in Bowie, TX.
Funeral services for Mr. Brokaw were held on Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating. The Committal Service was held on Monday, April 22, 2002 at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, TX. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Joe Brokaw, Bowie, TX; two sons, James Brokaw, Evansville, IN and Allen Brokaw, Tampa, FL; one daughter, Peggy Orr, Arlington, TX; four grandchildren; two stepsons, Jack Pigg, Montague, TX and Tim Pigg, Bowie, TX; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Carolyn Young, Whitesboro, TX and Mrs. Cindy Duvall, Bowie, TX; eleven step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; one sister, Gola Williams, Plainville, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brokaw was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Katheryn Brokaw in 1992.
Pallbearers included: his grandsons, Kenny Orr, Jeremy Pigg, Chad Duvall, Todd Pigg, Bill Byas, Tracy Tredway, Travis Price and Brian Childress.
Tommy Dwayne Morgan
Tommy Dwayne Morgan, 60, of Nocona, TX passed away on April 21, 2002 in Nocona Nursing Home.
Mr. Morgan was born on October 15, 1941 in Bonita, TX to Thomas Bransford and Flossie Marie Admire Morgan. He married Mary Nell Sledge on January 1, 1962 in Nocona, TX. He was a retired Game Warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Memorial services for Mr. Morgan were held on April 27, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel in Nocona, TX. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: his father, Thomas Bransford Morgan, Nocona, TX; two sons, Kevin Morgan, Los Angeles, CA, William Thomas (Bill) Morgan, McKinney, TX; one daughter, Lee Ann Morgan Offord, DeSoto, TX; three sisters, Pat Nash and Sherry Morgan, both of Nocona, TX, Marilyn Garner, Gainesville, TX; one grandson, which was the light of his life, Preston Blake Morgan Offord.
