Vera Walker Cozart, 87, of Bellevue, TX passed away on May 4, 2002 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Cozart was born on March 12, 1915 in Montague County, TX. She was a retired co-owner and bookkeeper of Feed Mill and retired bookkeeper of Pac A Sac in Bellevue, TX. She attended the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Bowie, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cozart were held on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church with Rev. Greg Newton and Rev. Elton Johnson officiating. Interment was held in Bellevue Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, DeeAnna Booker, Bellevue, TX; one granddaughter, Debbie Johnson, Bowie, TX; three great-grandsons, Trace Finn, Trey Johnson and Trent Johnson; one brother, Troy Walker, Wichita Falls, TX; and two sisters, Alma Tilson and Tera Hill, both of Wichita Falls, TX. Mrs. Cozart was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Cozart in 1999; two sisters, Lottie Hill and Dessie Farmer; and two brothers, Buford Walker and Lewis Walker.
Pallbearers included: Gary Hill, Bob Walker, Jay Walker, Kirk Walker, Smitty Walker and Terry Walker. Honorary pallbearers included: Chris Hodges, James Broussard, Jeff Broussard, Dr. E.R. Chandler, and Bryant Whitaker.
Grace Clark Cozart
Grace Clark Cozart, 95, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 5, 2002 .
Mrs. Cozart was born on March 7, 1907 in Tage, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Bowie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cozart were held on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Lawson and Ben Wiseman officiating. Interment was held in Antelope Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Charles Clark, Houston, TX; three daughters, Billie Williams, Bowie, TX, Yvonne Vaughn, Arlington, TX and Bobbie Hollingsworth, San Antonio, TX; two step-daughters, Jane Crow, Dallas, TX and Annette Young, Dallas, TX; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Clark, Ocala, FL; one sister, Syble Stambough, Austin, TX; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cozart was preceded in death by two husband, Terrell Clark in 1970 and Herman Cozart in 1990; two sons, S. T. Clark in 1929 and J. T. Clark in 2000; three grandsons, John McCabe in 1977, Roy Dan Clark in 1990 and Jimmy McCabe in 2002.
Pallbearers included: W. C. Gilbert, Rex Hamilton, Kenneth Liggett, Harold Hollaway, Kenneth Nelson and Edgar Shockley.
Michael C. Chester
Michael C. Chester, 83, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 8, 2002 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Chester was born on March 6, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY. He married Lucy Bell Reid on October 3, 1942 in Weatherford, TX. He retired after 33 years with Civil Service at Carswell Air Force Base. Mr. Chester was a member of the Masonic Lodge #438 AF & AM in Arlington, TX and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie where he taught the Berean Sunday School class.
Funeral services for Mr. Chester were held on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Lucy Chester, Bowie,TX; four daughters, Shirley Courtney, Arlington, TX, Carol Davis, Alexandira, VA, Wanda Crain, Pagosa Springs, CO, and Frances Newby, Springtown, TX; one son, Micheal Chester, Arlington, TX; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Wooley and seven brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers included: Ronnie Hankins, Larry Hargrove, Jeff Taylor, Jack Winn, Bob Myers, Ronnie Brooks, Jerry Clement and Jerry Cantwell. Honorary Pallbearers included: The Masons.
Clarice Abney Maddox
Clarice Abney Maddox, age 90 of Nocona, TX, passed away on May 10, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Maddox was born on July 12, 1911 in Nome, TX to George Relaford and Lola Agathe Sloane Abney. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the First United Methodist Church of Nocona. Mrs. Maddox was a homemaker and served as president of the Nocona Public School PTA. She was also active with Boy Scouts and was Past Matron of Nocona Chapter of Eastern Star and also served as Grand Officer. Mrs. Maddox taught Sunday School for nine years and was also a member of various other civic organizations. She married Humphrey Maddox on April 11, 1931.
Services for Mrs. Maddox were held of Monday, May 13, 2002 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating. Interment was in the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors include: one son, Randi Maddox of Frisco, TX; one sister, Meda Grimes of Nederland, TX; two grandchildren, Dan Maddox and Michelle Cordell; and six great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Myrle Jackson, Mike Payne, Amy Payne, Karen Davidson, Darria Allen and Sonny Atkins.
Travis Wayne Cornelison
Travis Wayne Cornelison, 59, of Ryan, OK passed away on May 15, 2002 at Jefferson County Hospital.
Mr. Cornelison was born on December 3, 1942 to Joseph Virgil and Rubye Barnes Cornelison in Temple, TX. He and Linda Craft were united in marriage on March 27, 1965 in Bowie, TX. Mr. Cornelison was self employed as a truck driver and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ryan.
Funeral services for Mr. Cornelison were held on Saturday, May 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ryan Methodist Church with Steve Harshaw officiating. Interment was held in Salona Cemetery in Bowie, TX under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Linda Cornelison, Ryan, OK; two daughters, Sherry Major, Chandler, OK and Lisa Brown, Henrietta, TX; two sons, Russell Cornelison, Terral, OK and Michael Cornelison, Tulsa, OK; three brothers, Ray Cornelison, Bridgeport, TX, Gary Cornelison, McAllen, TX, and Billy Don Cornelison, Irving, TX; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. V. and Rubye Cornelison.
Trevor Thomas Glenn
Trevor Thomas Glenn, a newborn, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 13, 2002 in Deactur, TX.
Baby Glenn was born on May 13, 2002 in Decatur, TX to Carolyn and Tom Glenn. Trevor’s parents are members of the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ in Bowie. Even though Trevor didn’t spend his time on earth, he is loved and will be forever in our hearts and prayers. We know he is in the hands of Jesus and will be well cared for, for eternity.
Survivors include: parents, Carolyn and Tom Glenn of Bowie, TX; three sisters, Ashley Coles of Ithica, NY, Reanna Coles of Bowie, TX, Shae Glenn of Bay Springs, MS; three brothers, Kenneth Glenn and Mitch Glenn, both of Kansas City, KS, and Scott Coles of Katy, Texas; and a maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Hale of Tijeras, NM.
Field Grant Hoover
Field Grant Hoover, 87, of Nocona, TX passed away on May 17, 2002.
Mr. Hoover was born on September 21, 1914 in Saint Jo, Texas to Charles and Tisha Hoover. He married Faye Melton on October 5, 1935. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1985. He and LaVerne Meeks Reynolds were married December 28, 1988. He retired as district manager for the Community Public Service Company in 1983 after 42 years of service. He was named Nocona’s Outstanding Citizen in 1975. An avid golfer and community leader, Mr. Hoover was a former member of the Whitewright and the Nocona School Boards, a director and past president of the Nocona Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce. He was a member and past president of the Whitewright and the Nocona Rotary Clubs and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Mr. Hoover was also a director of the Nocona Industrial Foundation, a director of the Nocona Hospital District, a director of Nocona Housing Authority, a director of the Lamplighters Apartment Association and a former deacon in the First Baptist Church of Nocona.
Funeral services for Mr. Hoover were held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Nocona, TX with Rev. Bryan Parks officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, LaVerne, of Nocona, TX; one daughter, Sara Jilson, Wichita Falls, TX; two sons, Jimmy Hoover, Wichita Falls, TX and Phillip Hoover, Lake Texhoma; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepson, Harold Reynolds, Nocona, TX; two stepdaughters, Becky Scroggins, Decatur, TX and Patti Tucker, Nocona, TX.
Pallbearers included: his grandsons, Hunter Hoover, Kyle Reynolds, Todd Scroggins, Jeff Tucker, Matt Hackley and Rob Hickox. Honorary pallbearers included: Glen Hawkins, Glenn Bettes, S. A. Pickens, Frank Collier, Jodie Howard and Ernest (Pee Wee) Haralson.
