C. E. "Lightning" Yarbrough, 86, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 17, 2002.
Mr. Yarbrough was born on November 28, 1915 in Fannin County, TX. He married Lois Simpson on March 26, 1999 in Henrietta, TX. He was a retired driller in the oil field. He was also an ordained deacon; enjoyed raising livestock and farming and was a caring and loving father. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Yarbrough was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Bowie.
Funeral services for Mr. Yarbrough were held on Monday, May 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at East Side Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Reed and Rev. Don Haney officiating. Interment was held in Lindale Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Lois Yarbrough, Bowie, TX; five daughters, Claudette Smith, Arlington, TX, Paulette Jones, Grand Prairie, TX, Karen Thomas, Dallas, TX, Laquita Hewitt, Nocona, TX and Renee Willett, Bowie, TX; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pebalena; one son, Wilburn and grandson, Ranson Willett.
Pallbearers included: Craig Lorentz, Shawn Lorentz, Brent Jones, Brian Brown, Jeff Brown, and Brett Hewitt.
"Bob" Robert Cleveland Cook
"Bob" Robert Cleveland Cook, 51, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 21, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mr. Cook was born on August 20, 1950 in Fort Worth, TX to Floyd Elmer and Evelyn Wilson Cook. He was a retired truck driver and roofer and served in the Army.
Funeral services for Mr. Cook were held on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Bethel Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was held in Long Branch Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his mother, Evelyn Cook, Nocona, TX; two children, Brennan Cook, Korea and Damon Cook, Boulder, CO, and Elizabeth Cook, Henrietta, TX; one sister, Shirley Cooper, Muenster, TX; one brother, Wayne Cook, Nocona, TX; and a special friend, Susie McNabb, Bowie, TX and her children, Betty Jo and Ashley McNabb and Robin Rogers. He was preceded in death by his father on May 12, 2001
Maurice Stennett
Maurice Stennett, 72, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 20, 2002 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Stennett was born on July 31, 1929 in Paducah, Texas. He was a maintenance Supervisor in the Chemical Industry. He married Marjorie Scroggins on August 2, 1950 in Waurika, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge #1385 A.F. & A.M. of Odessa, TX, and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Bowie, where he was a member of The Pastor’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Stennett served in the Army during World War II.
Funeral services for Mr. Stennett were held on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Ison officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Marjorie Stennett, Bowie, TX; two sons, Terry Stennett, Odessa, TX and Dale Stennett, Fort Stockton, TX; two daughters, Mrs. Treva McReynolds, Sonora, TX and Mrs. Beverly Evans, Odessa, TX; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max Stennett, Red Oak, TX and Don Stennett, Amarillo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stennett was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Austin and Francis Stennett and one brother, Kenneth Stennett.
Pallbearers included: Jimmie Gaskins, Bob Haney, John Scheaal, Ralph Morton, Don Gresham, and Pete Crosson.
Dorothy B. Williams
Dorothy B. Williams, 92, of Dallas, TX passed away on May 20, 2002 in Dallas, TX.
Mrs. Williams was born on December 31, 1909 in Bowie, TX. She married John L. Williams on May 31, 1952 in Dallas, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. She was a longtime resident of Bowie before moving to Dallas in 1942.
Graveside services for Mrs. Williams were held on Friday, May 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: one niece, Carolyn Jean Hill, Fort Worth; one nephew, Winford L. Wilson; two grandnephews, Linton Hill Lewis and Don Wilson; three grandnieces, Tracy E. White, Norma Price and Ann Hardin. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Williams.
Josie Gaskins
Josie Gaskins, 100, of Bowie, TX passed away on May 20, 2002.Mrs. Gaskins was born on December 30, 1901 in Uz, Texas. She married Eddie Gaskins on July 31, 1922 in Bowie. She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Bowie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gaskins were held on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Chapel with Rev. L. C. Smith officiating. Interment was held in Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg, TX.
Surviving relatives include: one sister, Mrs. Ester Sims, Fresno, CA; three sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gaskins was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Gaskins in 1980; her parents, Frank and Nora Gage; four brothers; and four sisters.
Pallbearers included: Jimmy Gaskins, Ardean Gaskins, Paul Hassell and Terry Hutchison.
Dorothy Denton Barr
Dorothy Denton Barr, 89, of Huntsville, TX passed away on May 23, 2002 in Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Barr was born on October 1, 1912 in Bellevue, TX to Newton C. and Jennie Burns Denton. She married J.C. Barr on June 30, 1929. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Barr was employed by The Tribune (All Church Press) as Manager of the Circulation Department in Fort Worth, TX during World War II. She taught Sunday School and was active in GA’s and Children’s Choir.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barr were held on Sunday, May 26, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Lamoin Champ officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two children, Steve Barr, Arlington, VA and Barbara Harberts, Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Shelly and David Wilding, Houston, TX and Drew and Jamie Barr, Arlington, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Austin Wilding, Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Barr.
Robert L. Hachtel
Robert L. Hachtel, 89, of Alvord, TX passed away on May 25, 2002 in Decatur, TX.
Mr. Hachtel was born on November 2, 1912 in Bowie, TX. He was married to the late Mary Kathleen Cason on May 31, 1940. Mr. Hachtel served in World War II with the 818th Division of the Army Air Corp. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sunset. He was a carpenter.
Funeral services for Mr. Hachtel were held on Monday, May 27, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sunset with Dr. Ray Vowell officiating. Interment was held in Ball Knob Cemetery under the direction of Coker Funeral Home of Decatur, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Robert L. Hachtel, Jr., Alvord, TX and Neal Eugene Hachtel, Decatur, TX; one daughter, Kay Brashear, Dallas, TX; one brother, Roland H. Hachtel, Seattle, WA; two sisters, Cora Earp and Mora Barton, both of Fort Worth, TX; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
