Robert N. Neece
Robert N. Neece, 84, of Lexington, SC passed away on June 2, 2002.
Mr. Neece was born on May 6, 1918 in Wellington, TX. Mr. Neece was a retired U.S. Army Sgt. First Class serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement, he entered Civil Service as a Signal Corp Instructor at Fort Gordon.
Graveside services with Military Honors for Mr. Neece were held on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery with a US Army Chaplin officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Roger Neece, Reston, VA and Michael Neece, Homer, AK; one daughter, Kathey Eason, Lexington, SC; one brother, Benjamin Neece, Jr., Blairsville, GA; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Neece was preceded in death by his wife, Emelene Rice Neece; one daughter, Karen McBaryer; and one sister, Kula Mucciolo.
Hilde Engel Workman
Hilde Engel Workman, 92, of Bowie, TX passed away on June 2, 2002 in Bowie Nursing Center.
Mrs. Workman was born on August 31, 1909 in Babylon, Long Island, NY to Albert and Sofie Klierogh Engel. She married Peter M. Workman on September 24, 1928 in Fort Worth, TX. Mrs. Workman was a member of the Altar Society and of NCCW, and was Woman of the Year of NCCW. She was very active in the celebrations of the holidays with the children of Montague county. Mrs. Workman was one of the Miller Brother’s 101 Wild West Show Performers. She was employed by Alltel Telephone Company for eleven and a half years, caterer of Wedding Cakes in Nocona, worked at Justin Leather Goods and for F.E. Leather. She also wrote articles for the Nocona News, Bowie News and The Shopper, for as long as she could. Mrs. Workman was named Nocona Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 1990.
Funeral services for Mrs. Workman were held on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Jerome’s Catholic Church of Bowie with Father Steven Berg officiating. Interment was held in Montague Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one grandchild, Abe Workman, one sister, Anne Schmohl, San Hosa, CA; special friends, Jimmy and Marie Wadsworth, Bowie, TX and Marty and Rose Stuber, Alvord, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Mark "Buck" Workman in 1977 and her husband, Peter Workman, on April 10, 1961.
Lota Ruth Anderson
Lota Ruth Anderson, 88, of Ringgold, TX passed away on June 2, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Anderson was born on August 4, 1913 in Nocona, TX to Clay and Pearl Stewart Pemberton. She married James Wilson Anderson on June 28, 1934. She worked in Dietary for Wichita Falls General Hospital, and Dietary for Buddy’s Supermarket in Fort Worth.
Funeral services for Mrs. Anderson were held on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Walnut Street Baptist Church of Nocona with Rev. Brad Thompson officiating. Interment was held in Ringgold Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Betty Anderson, Ringgold, TX; two grandchildren, James Stone, Clovis, CA and Sherry Brownlee, Monticello, GA; seven great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, S.L. and Henry Coy Pemberton and two grandchildren.
Lina Lee (Cable) Boggess
Lina Lee (Cable) Boggess, 87, of Saint Jo, TX passed away on June 10, 2002 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Boggess was born on March 22, 1915 in Peabody Community to Thomas Skelton and Belle Vada McGrady Cable. She married David Temple Boggess in Clay County, TX on September 12, 1952. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Boggess were held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in Saint Jo, TX with C. E. Cole officiating. Interment was held in McGrady Cemetery in Montague County.
Surviving relatives included: one daughter, Sara Reaves, Saint Jo, TX; one granddaughter, Lina Lachelle St. John, Gainesville, TX; and several nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Temple Boggess; her parents, Thomas Skelton and Belle Vada Cable; three sisters; and two brothers.
Pallbearers included: Wendell Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Kirk von Ree, Doyle Cook, Chris Stewart and Tom Vogel. Honorary pallbearers included: J. P. Embry, H. D. Embry, W. J. Lofland, Johnny Muller and Mike Preuninger.
Clarice Bilbrey Tompkins
Clarice Bilbrey Tompkins, 95, of Petoskey, Michigan and formerly a 45 year resident of Nocona, TX passed away on June 10, 2002.
Mrs. Tompkins was born on August 9, 1906 to Pearl Eugene and Ella Maude Bilbrey in Alvord, TX. She married Herman Wayne Tompkins on May 24, 1931 in Alvord, TX. Mrs. Tompkins graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX with a degree in elementary education and taught in Guthrie, Anson, Nocona and Prairie Valley, TX, for 26 years, retiring in 1972.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tompkins were held Friday, June 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona, TX. Interment was held on the Tompkins’ family ranch in the community of Dye Mound near Saint Jo, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Dorothy Shahinian, Grover Beach, CA, and Ima Williams, Harbor Springs, MI; one son, Jimmy Tompkins, Anchorage, AK; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry in 1939 and her husband, Herman in 1981.
Melvin Ulbig
Melvin Ulbig, 87, of Bowie, TX passed away on June 13, 2002 at Bellmire Health Care Facilities.
Mr. Ulbig was born on November 22, 1914 in Montague, TX to Frank and Maggie Fenoglio Ulbig. He married Rose Columbia Carminati on April 26, 1936 in Montague, TX. He was a carpenter and farmer/rancher. Mr. Ulbig was on the Building Committee of Saint Williams Catholic Church and used his carpenter skills to help in the building of the church. He also helped build Owens-Brumley Funeral Home in Bowie as well as other business buildings in Bowie.
Funeral services for Mr. Ulbig were held on Monday, June 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Williams Catholic Church in Montague with Father Steven Berg officiating. Interment was held in St. Williams Catholic Cemetery in Montague.
Surviving relatives include: three sons, James and Kenneth Ulbig, both of Bowie and Charles Ulbig, Montague, TX; one daughter, Helen R. Ulbig, Montague, TX; one sister, Rose Carminati, Nocona, TX; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Carminati Ulbig and a brother, John Ulbig.
Stella Catherine (Henry) Pilcher
Stella Catherine (Henry) Pilcher, 83, of Nocona, TX passed away on June 14, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Pilcher was born on December 3, 1918 in Arkansas to Clever and Hattie Johnson Henry. She married Raymond Pilcher on October 25, 1946 in Montague County. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Graveside services for Mr. Pilcher were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, TX with C.E. Cole officiating. Services were directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, TX.
Surviving relatives include: several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one infant child.
