Willie Ruth Smith
Willie Ruth Smith, 89, of Fort Worth, TX passed away on June 22, 2002 in North Richland Hills, TX.
Mrs. Smith was born on February 7, 1913 in Newport, TX. She lived forty-two years in Newport, TX before moving to Fort Worth, where she lived the last forty-seven years. She worked in the Fort Worth Independent School District for many years as a cafeteria worker. She has been a member of Springdale Baptist Church in Fort Worth since 1955 where she was the pianist for the Springdale Baptist Church Roadrunners Group for fourteen years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. Interment was held in Newport Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one brother, Roby E. Smith, Fort Worth, TX; three nieces, Mary Jane Hill, Fort Worth, TX; Annette Daniels, Quitman, TX and Val Trammell, Fort Worth, TX; two nephews, David Smith, San Francisco, CA; and Thurman Smith, Jr., Fort Worth, TX; three great nieces and one great-great niece.
Dovie Lee James
Dovie Lee James, 89, of Bowie, TX passed away on June 23, 2002.
Mrs. James was born on October 1, 1911 in Sunset. She worked at the Wichita Falls State Hospital as an R.N. for many years and at Bellmire Home for 14 years. She ws a member of the Church of Christ faith.
Graveside services for Mrs. James were held on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at Vashti Cemetery in Vashti, TX with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating.
Surviving relatives include: two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy June North, Bowie, TX and Mrs. Evelyn Walker Brown, Joplin, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. James was preceded in death by three children, Ronnie Leon Walker, Peggy Joyce Walker and Curtis Walker; and two husbands, Henry Cletus Walker and Troy D. Duncan.
Lesley Edward Godbey
Lesley Edward Godbey, 48, of Nocona, TX passed away on June 25, 2002.
Mr. Godbey was born on April 3, 1954 to Billy Morgan and Floy Belle Blake Godbey in Bonham, Texas. Mr. Godbey served in the United States Army and worked for Zack Burkett Construction Co. in Graham, TX until his health forced him to retire. He loved spending time with his family. Mr. Godbey was loved by everyone that knew him. He was a kind and loving person and will be greatly missed. He had a big heart. We loved him so much!
Funeral services for Mr. Godbey were held on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Moore and Rev. Luke Orley officiating. Interment was held in Molsbee Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his mother, Floy Godbey, Nocona, TX; two brothers, Wesley Godbey, Asher, OK and Sam Godbey, Fort Worth, TX; one sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Rusty Dick, Sherman, TX; his step-mother, Joy Godbey, Fort Worth, TX; three nephews, Josh Godbey, Norman, OK, Bill and James Dick, both of Sherman, TX; one niece, Emily Godbey, Mississippi; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Godbey was preceded in death by his father, Billy Morgan Godbey and his paternal grandparents, Grant and Birtha Godbey and maternal grandparents, John and Rose Blake.
Pallbearers included: Bill Dick, James Dick, Josh Godbey, Sam Godbey, Wes Godbey, Jason Raves, and David Bauman. Honorary pallbearers included: Arvel Wall, Mike Luster, Rodney Anderson and Jack Beeson.
Rudean Stephens
Rudean Stephens, 79, of Wheatridge, CO passed away on June 23, 2002 in Wheatridge, CO.
Mrs. Stephens was born on November 15, 1922 in Sherman, TX. She married Cecil Stephens on February 14, 1943 in Pueblo, CO. She was a nurse and a member of the Methodist Church in Bowie.
Graveside services for Mrs. Stephens were held on Friday, June 28, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Bervin Caswell officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: four sisters, Lavon Elliott, Golden, CO, Barbara Zabichas, Albuquerque, NM, Vonell Ferris, Arvada, CO, and Dot Hutchison, Denver, CO; and one brother, H. L. Gigg, Westminister, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, in 1996.
Kenneth Wayne "Kenny" Davis
Kenneth Wayne "Kenny" Davis, 63, of Bowie, TX passed away on June 24, 2002.
Mr. Davis was born on April 13, 1939 in Bowie, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sunset, TX.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held on Friday, June 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Cleveland officiating. Interment was held in Sunset Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one brother, J. L. Davis, Kathleen, FL; and three sisters, Leveda Foster Cave, Runaway Bay, TX, Loretta Spears, Keller, TX and Betty Bell, Bowie, TX. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, Bobby and Bill Davis and two sisters, Marie Jackson and Maydelle Hollaway.
Pallbearers included: Benny Motley, Louie Lowrance, David Winn, R. L. Heugatter, Mike Jackson and Bobby Briggs.
Alma F. Henry Walker
Alma F. Henry Walker, 91, of Bryan, TX passed away on June 23, 2002.
Mrs. Walker was born on December 3, 1910 in Valentine, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Ringgold, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of Ringgold Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Walker were held on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with family officiating. Interment was held in Ringgold Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Mrs. Margie Berry Smith, Bryan, TX; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Billy McEwen, Bowie, TX; three sisters, Mrs. Exer Gulley and Mrs. Gerald Thompson, both of Wichita Falls, TX, and Mrs. Catherine Schelen, Grand Prairie, TX; two step-children, Dorothy Crabtree, Nocona, TX and Jerry Walker, Ringgold, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her first husband, George Euel Henry in 1966; a second husband, V. L. Walker; and one daughter, Georgia McEwen on October 31, 2000.
Pallbearers included: Marshall Berry, G. W. Berry, Jr., Lynn Proctor, Paul Smith, Jerry Walker and Bill McEwen.
Billy Dee Hill
Billy Dee Hill, 69, of Forestburg, TX passed away on June 28, 2002 at Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton.
Mr. Hill was born on July 4, 1932 in Montague County, TX to Dee and Bernie Robeson Hill. He lived most of his life in Forestburg. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a boiler foreman for Texas Electric.
Graveside services for Mr. Hill were held on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosston Cemetery in Rosston, TX with C. E. Cole officiating. Services were directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, Tx,
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Charlotte Boyd, McKinney, TX and Vickie Harris, Gunter, TX; one son, Richard Hill, Houston, TX; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Yvonne Sailing, Bridgeport and Colleen Plunk, Rockwall, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Billy Doyle Hill.
