Willie Verne Shields
Willie Verne Shields, 99, of Nocona, TX passed away on August 24, 2002 in Horizon Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Shields was born on September 22, 1902 in El Dorado, OK to James Robert Eakin and Elizabeth Debra Sledge. She married Jesse Lafayette Shields and was a bookkeeper for Clover Lake Creamery for 25 years. Mrs. Shields was a member of the Business Professional Women’s Club, Rebekah Lodge, The Alturas Club, the Las Camaradas Club and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Nocona, TX.
Funeral services were on Monday, August 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamoin Champ and the Rev. Don Hendrix officiating. Interment was in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home, Nocona, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Dorothy Jean Trout, of Nocona, TX; two daughter-in-laws, Jean Shields, Nocona and JoAnn Shields, Andrews, TX; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Shields in 1944 and two sons, Kenneth in 1982 and Ray in 2000.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Shields, Matt Shields, Michael Shields, Amy Shields, Jenny Akins and Lance Akins. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Trout, Jesse Trout, Daniel Trout and Mike Akins.
James D. Allison
Mr. James D. Allison, age 59 of Robstown, TX passed away on August 27, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Allison was born January 30, 1943 in Bellevue, TX. He was a maintenance man for a clothing store, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Baptist Faith. He was a longtime resident of Wichita Falls, TX before moving to Robstown, TX eleven years ago.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 2:00 PM in Hopewell Cemetery, Stoneburg, TX. Rev. Larry Kennedy officiated the services under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Survivors include one son, Craig Allison of Sunset, TX; one daughter Lori Diaz of Austin, TX; two sisters, Lucy Harrison and Eulas Jones, both of Bellevue, TX; three brothers, Vernon Allison of Bowie, TX, William Allison of Henrietta, TX and Elmer Allison of Bellevue, TX; one granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Robert Jones, Jake Jones, John Harrison, Billy Glen Harrison, Andy Harrison, Steven Harrison and Benny Allison.
Charlott Sharp
Charlott Sharp, age 68 of Bowie, TX passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Sharp was born June 28, 1934 in Salona, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 30, 2000 at 3:00 PM at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie with Pastor Belvin Brummett officiating, under the direction of Fry Funeral Home. Interment was held in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Bowie.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Sharp and Russell Sharp, both of Bowie; one daughter, Donna Musick, Bowie; one sister, Rosalinda Johnson of Bowie; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hermine Roth; one brother, Nobert Roth; one granddaughter, Alisa Perry; and one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Thibodeaux.
Pallbearers were Brent Husfeld, Waldo Roth, Arn Anderson, Walter Husfeld, David Thibodeaux, and Edwin Kleinhans. Honorary pallbearers were Linford Roth and Steven Johnson.
Zaila Kathryn Lindsay
Zaila Kathryn Lindsay, age 98 of Nocona, Texas passed away on August 29, 2002 at Horizon Manor Nursing Home in Nocona, TX.
Mrs. Lindsay was born July 15, 1904 in Marietta, OK to John and Gussie Drake. She married John Lindsay on September 25, 1926. She was a former employee of Scott Brothers Store in Nocona, the Nocona Boot Company, and a partner in Dude’s Duds Dress Shop in Nocona. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Nocona, member and past president of the Maids and Matrons Club of Nocona, and a charter member of the Nocona Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Lindsay attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 1, 2002 at 2:30 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Stallcup of Nocona; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lynn Adams, Robert Fenoglio, Joe Staley, Dwight Holcomb, Jim Putnam and Hobie Meekins.
Velma Partridge Robinson
Velma Partridge Robinson, age 78 of Valley Mills, TX passed away on Friday, August 23, 2002 in a Waco hospital.
Mrs. Robinson was born September 29, 1923 in Nocona, TX to the late Bro. and Mrs. R.L. Partridge. Velma gave many years of service to the Baptist Churches in the area where she lived. She served as Sunday School teacher for many years and was the president of the Bosque County W.M.U. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills and was a gifted artist. She and her late husband, Hartwell Robinson, Sr. homesteaded in Wyoming.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 26, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Fort Worth TX. Burial was in Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Hilliard, Loretta Green, and Sue Hollis; twelve grandchildren and fiftenn great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Partridge of Valley Mills, Edna Preuninger of Bowie, and Christine Preunnger of Aubrey, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Hartwell, Jr.
Edward Lynn (Corky) Beasley, Jr.
Edward Lynn (Corky) Beasley, Jr., age 32 of Nocona, TX passed away on August 31, 2002 in Nocona.
Mr. Beasley was born on April 13, 1970 in Nocona, TX to Edward and Nancy Beasley. Mr. Beasley worked at the Montague Boot Co. and was a member of the Church of God.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Montague Cemetery with Rev. Steve Bernard officiating under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Beasley of Nocona; father, Edward Lynn Beasley, Sr. of Nocona; mother, Nancy Cable of Nocona; grandmothers, Myrtle Walls of Nocona and Clara Beasley of Bowie; two daughters, Ray Gayle Beasley and Shahala Beasley, both of Nocona; two sisters, Brandy Thomas and Sandy Cable, both of Nocona; and one brother, Gene Cable of Nocona.
Pallbearers were Kevin Thomas, Chris Dodd, Dennis Brown, Billy Holding, Eldon Marshall, and Seldon Atteberry.
Jodie Pearl Pigg Poyner
Jodie Pearl Pigg Poyner, 73, of Odessa, TX passed away on August 27, 2002.
Mrs. Poyner was born on May 6, 1929 in Crafton, TX. She lived in Odessa for the past 47 years. Mrs. Poyner was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a cherished sister and friend. She married W. L. "Les" Poyner.
Funeral services for Mrs. Poyner were held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raul Pauente officiating. Interment was held in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, W. L. "Les" Poyner, Odessa, TX; children, Darvin Poyner, Icy Kannel, Roy Poyner and Jim Poyner, all of Odessa, Tom Poyner, Meridian, TX and Walt Poyner, Midland, TX; four sisters, Jewel O’Neal, Mary Walker, Vinia Meyers and Nelta Walker; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Pigg; two brothers, J.C. "Son" Pigg and Troy Pigg; and two sisters, Ollie Margaret Thompson and Georgia Cunningham.
