James Henry Shrum, 69, of Nocona, TX passed away on September 14, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mr. Shrum was born on March 25, 1933 in Hardy Community, TX to Joseph Henry and Mary Elizabeth Branch Shrum. He was a lifelong resident of Montague County.
Funeral services for Mr. Shrum were held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Saint Jo Church of Christ in Saint Jo with Chester Cullum officiating. Interment was held in Hardy Cemetery in Hardy Community, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Debra Russell, Justin, and Jan Sims, Krum, TX; one son, Mike Shrum, Krum, TX; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Tina Knoles & Bertha Montgomery, both of Cleburne, TX and Sylvia Bowles, Nocona, TX; and one brother, Otis Shrum, Cleburne, TX . He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jimmy Shrum; two sisters, Opal Voss and Connie Welch; and one brother, Jack Shrum.
Pallbearers included: Mike Shrum, Billy Jo Shrum, Nick Shrum, David Sims, Clint Snow, and Terry North.
Lois Luar Lathem
Lois Luar Lathem, 76, of Ringgold, TX passed away on September 14, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Lathem was born on October 22, 1925 in Midland, TX to W. F. and Mildred Smith Dobson. She married Robert Cecil Lathem on December 27, 1947 in Dallas, TX. She was retired from the Home Health industry and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lathem were held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Parks officiating. Interment was held in Ringgold Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Robert Glenn Lathem, Ponca City, OK; one daughter, Joyce Lynn Parks, Waxahachie, TX; one sister, Lillian Lindsey, Snyder, TX; one brother, Billy Jack Dobson, Rockport, TX; four grandchildren, Robert Lathem, Hockley, TX, Wayne Childress, Palmer, TX, Jennifer Lathem, Ponca City, OK, and Tonya Childers, Waxahachie, TX; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: Tom Parr, Darrell Fuller, Sr., Jim Franklin, Fred Allen, Eddie Read and Jimmy Lemons.
Roy Ray McAnear
Roy Ray McAnear, 94, of Wichita Falls, TX passed away on September 16, 2002 in Rolling Meadows Healthcare in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. McAnear ws born on April 29, 1908 in Jacksboro, TX. He married Letha Martin on March 24, 1928 in Graford, TX. He was a resident of Bowie, Texas for 23 years before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas six years ago. Mr. McAnear retired as Division Superintendent from Amoco Pipeline in 1965. He retired as General Manager of Parotex Pipeline in 1974. He retired as Consultant and Manager of Compton Corporation in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bowie, TX.
Graveside services for Mr. McAnear were held on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Mrs. Frances Gibson, Wichita Falls, TX; two sons, Kenneth Ray McAnear, Shelbyville, KY and Edwin Charles McAnear, Whitedeer, TX; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joyce Ann McAnear, Vicksburg, MS; ten grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren and step-great and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. McAnear was preceded in death by his wife, Letha McAnear on October 7, 1997; one son, Clifford LeRoy McAnear; one daughter, Mary Clydene McAnear; and one grandson, Johnny Mac Treadwell.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.
Mrs. Floryne "Flo" Evans
Mrs. Floryne "Flo" Evans, 94, of Nocona, TX passed away on September 19, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Evans was born on October 12, 1907 in Chickasha, OK to Abram McKay and Laura Florence Austin Stewart. She married Ray Evans on May 29, 1934. She worked for Montague County Abstract and Title Company and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Evans were held on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was held in Longbranch Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Max Evans, Nocona, TX; one daughter, Helen Yarbrough, Nocona, TX; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: Larry Bratcher, Bill Bratcher, Jim L. Keck, Jerry Painter, Chico Cabrera, Jr. and Waymon Tipton. Honorary pallbearers included: Charles Milburn, Don Sewell, Don Armstrong, Robert Agee, Chico Cabrera, Sr., Jim Keck, Roy C. Fitts, and Waymon Baker.
Douglas Kenneth Johnston
Douglas K. Johnston, 59, of Montague, TX passed away on September 15, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Johnston was born on October 30, 1942 in Amarillo, TX to Richard Francis and Dorothy Mae Johnston. He spent four years in the Navy and later attended North Texas College. He married Linda Lewis on June 21, 1987. Mr. Johnston was a truck driver for Rumco Aggregrate in Bridgeport.
There was no funeral service.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Linda; one sister, Richalyn Marquez, Elgin, TX; one aunt, Vera Johnston, Odessa, TX; two sons, "Bill" William Douglas Johnston, Arlington, TX and "D.J." Douglas James Johnston, San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren; three step-children; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hazol Lavada (Ivins) Cothrin
Hazol Lavada (Ivins) Cothrin, 78, of Saint Jo, TX passed away on September 22, 2002 in Pecan Tree Manor in Gainesville, TX.
Mrs. Cothrin was born on June 6, 1924 in Montague County, TX to James Leonard and Leila Josephine Cannon Ivins. She married Earl Cothrin in 1947. Mrs. Cothrin was a waitress.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cothrin were held on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Saint Jo, TX with Rev. Kenneth Wells and Rev. Sidney Stone officiating. Interment was held in Coker Cemetery in Cooke County, TX.
Surviving relatives include: four sons, James Edward Cothrin, Lewisville, TX, Gary Don Cothrin, Royse City, TX, Rodney Lynn Cothrin, Saint Jo, TX and Larry Dale Cothrin, Lubbock, TX; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Juevene Graham, Lewisville, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Thelma Sophia Hilton.
Pallbearers included: Kevin Cothrin, Craig Cothrin, John Cothrin, Travis Cothrin, Caleb Cothrin and Bubba Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers included: Billy Graham and Greg Graham.
Chancie Carlton
Chancie Carlton, 89, of Bowie, TX passed away on September 18, 2002 at Bellmire Home.
Mrs. Carlton was born on September 15, 1913 in Duncan, OK. She married Bill Carlton on December 23, 1931 in Marietta, OK. Mrs. Carlton was a cafeteria cook at the Saint Jo Schools for several years until her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Christ faith all her life.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carlton were held on Friday, September 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saint Jo Church of Christ with C.E. "Sonny" Cole officiating. Interment was held in Dye Mound Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Mrs. Melba Jefcoat, Bowie, TX, and Mrs. Zelda Pittman, Crafton, TX; one son, J. D. Carlton, Forestburg, TX; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jewel Edese, Saint Jo, TX, and Mrs. Geraldine Cook, Amarillo, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Carlton in 1992.
Pallbearers included: Travis Rathbun, Willy Conway, Eldon Huckabay, Shane Beavers, Danny Russell and A. E. Cozart.
