Gerald Lee Whitecotton, 74, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 1, 2002 at a Bowie nursing home.
Mr. Whitecotton was born on November 13, 1927 in Comanche Co., OK to L.A. and Capitola Chandler Whitecotton. He was a LVN at the State Hospital and served in the US Army/Air Force.
Funeral services for Mr. Whitecotton were held on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel with Lee Lucas officiating. Interment was held in Montague Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: two sisters, Jackie Stilwell, Ringgold, TX and Ophelia Simpson, Houston; and one brother, Robbie Whitecotton, Montague, TX.
Marilyn Joyce Milke
Mrs. Marilyn Joyce Milke, 60, of Nocona, Texas passed away on October 7, 2002 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Milke was born on November 29, 1941 in Dallas, TX to Francis and Ruby Gaylor McKelvey Powell. She married Ronald ‘Ron’ Louis Milke. She was a retired medical transcriptionist. Marilyn enjoyed playing golf at Nocona Hills with her friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nocona Hills Community Church with Rev. Lee Lucas officiating. Interment was in Miller Grove Texas on October 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Ronald, Nocona; her mother, Ruby of Nocona; two daughters, Jennifer Taylor, Plano, TX and Donna Sheets of Carrollton, TX; one son, Ron Milke, Jr. of New York; four sisters, Joan Garrett of Miller Grove, TX, Mary Wiley of New Braunfels, TX, Harriette Lowry of Arlington, TX and Linda Moody, Walnut Grove, MS; three brothers, Simm Powell of Brownsville, TX, Jakey Powell and Jack Leon Powell both of Fort Worth, TX; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Powell.
Sue Molsbee Vaughn
Sue Molsbee Vaughn, 79, of Nocona, TX passed away on October 20, 2002.
Mrs. Vaughn was born on February 24, 1923 to O.M. Molsbee and Floyd Buckley Molsbee in Nocona, TX. She married O.C. Vaughn and was employed by Wal-Mart in Bowie for thirteen years. She also had worked for Perkins/Moennings of Wichita Falls for twelve years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughn were held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren with Rev. Clarence Russell and Rev. Don Hendrix officiating. Interment was held in Molsbee Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three daughters, Phyllis Berry, Nocona, TX, Vicky Terry and Lydia McWhorter, both of Wichita Falls; one son, Jerry Vaughn, Bowie, TX; one sister, Vera Bee Phillips, Bowie, TX; and one brother, Gerald Molsbee, Gainesville, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Vaughn, on February 3, 1975.
Pallbearers included: Todd Berry, Reese Berry, Dale Vaughn, Johnny Terry, Tye McWhorter, and Todd Sutton. Honorary pallbearers included: Angie Sutton and Laurie Terry.
William "Will" Cole DeBord
William "Will" Cole DeBord, 6, of Nocona, TX passed away on October 15, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Will was born on December 21, 1995 in Nocona, TX to Harold and Angela Weaver DeBord. He was a student in the first grade at Nocona Elementary School and was on the Indians t-ball team.
Surviving relatives include: his parents, Harold and Angie DeBord, Nocona, TX; four brothers, Steven DeBord, Skye Bell, Clay Bell, Ty DeBord, all of Nocona, TX; his grandparents, Frances DeBord, Nocona, TX and Robbie and Douglas Weaver, Nocona, TX; great-grandparents, Juanita Frost and Weldon Weaver; uncles, aunts, great-uncles and great-aunts.
Funeral services for William "Will" Cole DeBord were held on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Abundant Life Church with Rev. Rod Messer officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona, TX.
Pallbearers included: Jerry DeBord, Ray DeBord, Zack Weaver and James Robinson. Honorary pallbearers included: Ryan Taylor, Will Lemons, John Finch, Jerry Kennedy, Devan Barker, John Hogan and Shane Dearduff.
Willie Shurbet
Willie Shurbet, 93, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 13, 2002 in Decatur, TX.
Mrs. Shurbet was born on January 19, 1909 in Crafton, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 Ladies Auxiliary of Bowie, TX. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Esther Sunday School Class at First Baptist.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shurbet were held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating. Interment was held in Sunset Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: four daughters, Mrs. Christine Smith and Mrs. Joy Clayton, both of Bowie, TX; Mrs. Verna Pickren, Wichita Falls, TX and Mrs. Leta Shurbet, Iowa Park, TX; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; thirty great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Geneva Mayo, Bowie, TX; and three brothers, Charlie and Jewell Boyett, both of Bowie, TX and Uewell Boyett, Wichita Falls, TX. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Trout; her second husband, O.B. Shurbet; and her son, Billy Terrell Trout.
Pallbearers included: Michael Phillips, Nelson Phillips, Nelson Smith, Jr., Bobby Trout, Toby Lippencott, and Reed Slaggle. Honorary pallbearers included: Charlie Boyett, Jewell Boyett, and Uewell Boyett.
Leroy "Red" Hutson
Leroy "Red" Hutson, 68, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 10, 2002 at Hospice of Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Hutson was born on January 28, 1934 in Saint Jo, TX. He married Ellen Jo Curnette on October 13, 1953 in Gainesville, TX. He owned and operated Red’s Barber Shop in Bowie, TX and was a lifetime resident of Montague County.
Funeral services for Mr. Hutson were held on Friday, October 11, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Fox officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Brenda Bell, Bowie, TX; two sons, Jerry Hutson, Vernon, TX and Larry Hutson, Bowie, TX; two sisters, Jo Carlisle, Bowie, TX and Francis Hutson, Silver Springs, MA; three brothers, Charles, Gene and Gerald Hutson, all of Bowie, TX; eight grandchildren; and six great-greatchildren. Mr. Hutson was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, in 1971.
Pallbearers included: Ryan Bell, Ben Davis, Brent West, Jason Richey, Shawn Hutson and Michael Hutson.
Christine Simmons Pennington
Christine Simmons Pennington, 77, of Duncanville, TX passed away on October 19, 2002.
Ms. Pennington was born on November 18, 1924 in Shannon, TX. She retired as a secretary from the Wichita Falls State Hospital. She was Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter in Jacksboro, TX and a honorary member at the Duncanville Eastern Star and a member of the Baptist Womens Auxiliary. Ms. Pennington was also a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Duncanville, TX.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Shannon Cemetery in Shannon, TX with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one niece, Katie Lene, Duncanville, TX; one nephew, John S. Fry, Duncanville, TX; and one foster brother, James T. Smith, Amarillo, TX. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eural Simmons; three sisters, Audra Simmons, Onieta Fry, Corine Simmons; her parents, Charlie and Kate Simmons; and two husbands, Wesley Kothmann and James Dodson.
Carol Lynn Thomas
Carol Lynn Thomas, 32, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 16, 2002.
Mrs. Thomas was born on May 25, 1970 in White Settlement, Texas. She was a homemaker and worked as a dietary aide at Bowie Nursing Center and enjoyed helping with the elderly. She loved camping, music, video games and animals.
A memorial service for Mr. Thomas was held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Newton officiating.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Bret Michael Thomas, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Brittany Michelle Thomas, Bowie, TX; her parents, Glenn and Vickie Spurrier, Bowie, TX; three sisters, Laura Jones, Bowie, TX, Angela Hollis, Benbrook, TX, and Brandi Henson, Sunset, TX; her eight nephews and four nieces; one great-grandmother, Annie Spurrier, Azle, TX; three grandmothers, Helen Spurrier, LaJuanta, TX, Betty Spurrier, Yoakum, TX and Betty Sosebee, Bowie, TX; and her mother-in-law, Rita Rhinehart, Denton, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brent Michael Thomas in 1990.
Onie Wayne Grooms
Onie Wayne Grooms, 82, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 14, 2002 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Grooms was born on August 14, 1920 in Nocona, TX to Thomas Jefferson and Nettie Lee Bonds Grooms. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in the maintenance department of the swimming pool and a Baptist.
Funeral services for Mr. Grooms were held on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Rhodes officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Danny Wayne Grooms, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Rosemary Duncan, Copperas Cove, TX; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
