Beverly Harris
Beverly Harris, 66, of Saint Jo, TX passed away on January 9, 2003 in Denton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Harris was born on March 9, 1936 in Denton, TX to Joe and Christine Gayle Gay. She married Bill Harris on February 1, 1958 in Denton, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Saint Jo. Mrs. Harris was also a member of the Century Club and the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harris were held on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 2:00 pm. at First United Methodist Church in Saint Jo with Rev. Jennifer Karrer officiating. Interment was held in Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Bill Harris, Saint Jo, TX; two daughters, Julie Harris Arcellana, Oakland, CA and Laura Jean Russell, Georgetown, TX; five grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Vantrease, Wichita Falls, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers included: Jim Tatom, Tom Harris, Scott Russell, Jose Arcellana, Jerry Apple and Mark Vantrease.
R.B. Welsh
R. B. Welsh, 81, of Bowie, TX passed away on Jaunuary 9, 2003 at Bellmire Home.
Mr. Welsh was born on August 27, 1921 in Martinsville, IL. He married Exilda Abbe on June 14, 1944 at Mankato, MN. He was a retired construction superintendent. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie.
Graveside services were held on Monday, January 13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Belvin Brummett officiating. Fry Funeral Home of Bowie directed the services.
Surviving relatives include: Dennis Welsh, Lake Ozarks, MO, and Patrick Welsh, Datona Beach, FL; two sisters, Helen Sohre and Louise Birr, both of Good Thunder, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Exilda Welsh on December 23, 2001.
Drue Wayne Armstrong
Drue Wayne Armstrong, 86, a resident of Fort Worth, TX, passed away January 12, 2003 in Fort Worth.
He was born May 27, 1916 in Montague County, TX to Prescott L. and Nora Husband Armstrong. On March 11, 1942 he married Eula May Little in Florence, S.C. He was a veteran of WWII and retired from Civil Service after 32 years of service. In July, 1989 he married Kathryn Stearns.
Services were conducted Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saint Jo Church of Christ in Saint Jo, TX with C.E. Cole officiating. Interment followed in Center Point Cemetery, Montague County, TX.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by: his wife, Kathryn of Columbus, OH; four sisters, Nona Lee Karbo of Pampa, TX, Geneva Webb of Fort Worth, TX, Maxine Henrich of Fort Worth, TX and June Witcher of Amarillo, TX; one brother, Foy Armstrong of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, and one brother, Melvin Armstrong.
Edna L. Preuninger
Mrs. Edna L. Preuninger, 78, a thirty-five year resident of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 11, 2003 in Fort Worth, TX.
She was born October 25, 1924 in Nocona, TX. She married Robert L. Preuninger on November 10, 1948 in Saint Jo, TX. Mrs. Preuninger was a homemaker and a member of the Montague County Historical Society. She was employed by Montague County as a filing clerk for many years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Bowie, TX. She taught Sunday School all of her adult life and was church pianist.
Services were conducted Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Bowie with Rev. Dwayne Lamberson and Rev. Ray Payne officiating. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Keith Preuninger, Greg Preuninger, Mike Preuninger, Roddy Adams, Tim Sanders and Tim Chambless. Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Preuninger, Donald Preuninger, Christopher Preuninger, Franklin Preuninger, Corey Preuninger, and Marcus Preuninger.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert L. Preuninger of Bowie; four sons, Delbert of Winfield, AL, Terry of Waco, TX, Ricky Don of Crowley, TX and Jimmy L. of Burleson, TX; eight grandchildren, Stephen Preuninger of Winfield, AL, Denise Chambless ofVernon, AL, Christopher and Corey Preuninger both of Waco, TX, Donald and Maria Preuninger, both of Crowley, TX, Franklin and Marcus Preuninger, both of Burleson, TX, ; two sisters, Elsie Partridge of Denton, TX and Christine Preuninger of Krugerville, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Nellie Partridge, one sister, Thelma Robinson and one nephew, Hartwell Robinson.
Mary Josephine Jones
Mary Josephine Jones, 83, of Arlington, TX, passed away on January 11, 2003 in Arlington, TX.
She was born September 19, 1919 in Bowie, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church and the Widowed Persons of Tarrant County. She was a graduate of Bowie High School.
Mrs. Jones is survived by: one daughter, Becky Pogue of Arlington, TX; one grandson, Mike Pogue of Palm City, FL; one great grandson, Griffin Watts Pogue; one great granddaughter, Janie Beth Pogue; one sister, Jeannine Parker of Bowie, TX; one brother, Charles Hopper of Weatherford, TX; nieces and nephews; and many close and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Jones.
Graveside services for Mrs. Jones were conducted Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Bowie, TX with Rev. Gail Zoya officiating. Fry Funeral Home directed the service.
James Melford Murry
James Melford Mury, 68, of Lewisville, AR, passed away in Texarkana, TX on January 13, 2003. He was formerly of Nocona, TX.
Mr. Murry was born January 30, 1934 in Ranger, TX to Claude L. and Rosetta Cromer Murry. He was retired from the oil field and a member of the Central Christian Church of Nocona, TX.
Services for Mr. Murry were conducted Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O.C. Harper and Dr. Dave Hartman officiating. Interment followed in Nocona Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Edward Coffman, Mac McAlvain, Don Butler, Larry Pribble, Don Rice, Jimmy Oakley, Rod Murry, Joe Murry and Jimmy Dan Pribble.
Survivors include: three daughters, Maryetta Oakley of Wichita Falls, TX, Elsie Warner of Ardmore, OK and Janice Streeter of North Richland Hills, TX; one sister, Rama Butler of Hollister, MO; two brothers, Bob Murry of Lewisville, AR and Garland Murry of Nocona, TX; and six grandchildren, Melissa Oakley, Michael Oakley, Bethany Streeter, Andrew Streeter, Megan Warner and Kevin Warner.
Nellie May (Phillips) Kidd
Nellie Mae (Phillips) Kidd, 89, of Bowie, TX passed away on January 14, 2003 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Kidd was born on March 6, 1913 in Dothan, Alabama to John and Laura Bell Dexter Phillips. She married Hollis V. Kidd on October 30, 1939 in Portales, NM. She was a homemaker and lived in the Saint Jo and Bulcher area most of her life.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kidd were held on Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Saint Jo Church of Christ with C.E. Cole and Loyd Morris officiating. Interment was held in Coker Cemetery in Montague County, TX under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jessie Gary, Saint Jo, TX; one grandchild; one great-grandchild and one niece, Flossie Schoppa. Mrs. Kidd was preceded in death by her husband.
Pallbearers included: Clyde Yetter, Stanton Field, Jack Schoppa, Ira Schoppa, R.L. Schoppa and Chris Yarbrough.
Henry William Johnson..
Henry William Johnson, 89, of Nocona, TX passed away on January 14, 2003 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born on December 21, 1913 in Spanish Fort, TX to Calvin Aaron and Elsie Ernistine Kuykendall Johnson. He married Marie Martha McMurray Johnson on October 5, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1979. He was a school teacher and an administrator. Mr. Johnson was a life member of the Texas Association of School Administrators; a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Assoc., American Association of Retired Personnel, Montague County Geneology Society, Nocona Lions Club, Nocona Golf Club, Montague County Historical Commission and helped publish the history of Spanish Fort.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ with Bro. Dale Scott and Rev. Lamoin Champ officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three children, Patti Johnson, Nocona, TX, Gary Johnson, Richardson, TX and Larry Johnson, Lindale, TX; three grandchildren, Kristin, Megan and Jared; extended family, Otis and Joan Tettleton and families, Nocona, TX; three sisters, Viola Bigbie, Spanish Fort, TX, Floyce Hill, Brenham, TX and Dorothy Snider, Marshall, TX; one brother, Cliff Johnson, Granbury, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
