Mrs. Lou Jean Hodges, 76, passed away on January 19, 2003 in Bowie, Texas
She was born July 3, 1926 in Oklahoma City, OK. She married Bill Hodges on August 15, 1975 in Bowie, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bowie. She was a resident of Bellevue, TX from 1975 until 1984, then moved to Bowie.
Graveside services were Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Bellevue Cemetery, Bellevue, TX with Rev. Lewis Ray Sleeth officiating. Fry Funeral Home directed the service.
Survivors include: her husband, W.O. "Bill" Hodges of Bowie, TX; two daughters, Deborah H. Silvi of Houston, TX and Catherine Knowles of Forney, TX; one grandson, Colin Knowles of Forney, TX; one step-son, Bill Hodges of Castle Rock, CO; two sisters, Charolette Prechtl of Norman, OK and Barbara de Jong of Merrivale, South Africa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her parents, Neva Lou Bale Bolton and Hubert Bale, one step-son, Chris Hodges and one brother, Lee Bale.
Walter Eastin Shaw, III
Walter Eastin Shaw, III, 69, of Bowie, TX passed away on January 22, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Shaw was born on May 14, 1933 in Bicknell, TN. He married Mary E. Bledsoe on December 24, 1967 in San Francisco, CA. He was Contract Administrator for ARAMCO and served in the Navy for seven years.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Idaho.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mary Shaw, Bowie, TX; two daughters, Marla Sadati, Corona, CA and Jeanne Macke, Peria, AZ; two sons, James Daniel Shaw, Palm Desert, CA and Walter E. Shaw, IV, Denver, CO; one sister, Betty Gardner, Wichita, KS; and three grandchildren.
Tommy Joe Bailey
Tommy Joe Bailey, 63, of Tuscon, AZ passed away on January 22, 2003.
Mr. Bailey was born on May 6, 1939 in Hedley, TX. He graduated from Alvord High School in 1967 and was the owner of Chem-dry business in El Paso, TX for many years until his retirement. Mr. Bailey was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alvord, TX.
Graveside services for Mr. Bailey were held on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Restlawn Cemetery in El Paso, TX with Rev. Al Gardner officiating.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Toni Bailey, Tucson, AZ; three daughters, Shannon Bailey, Houston, TX, Tina Johnson, Fort Smith, AR, and Laura Oats, Decatur, TX; four grandchildren; his mother, Frances Lumsden, Bowie, TX; one sister, Shirley Boyd, Bowie, TX; two brothers, Jimmy Bailey, Sulphur Springs, TX and John Bailey, Wichita Falls, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Darren Dewayne Thomason
Darren Dewayne Thomason, 34, of Bellevue, TX passed away on January 19, 2003.
Mr. Thomason was born on September 6, 1968 in Aspermont, TX. He was a fence contractor and a member of the Bellevue VFD where he was an EMT 1. He was also a member of the Wichita Falls Gem and Mineral Society, a member of State Fire Marshall Association of Texas and member of the Clay County Fire Fighters Association.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomason were held on Friday, January 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Cox officiating. Interment was held in Ringgold Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his mother, Jean Ann Stallcup, Bellevue, TX; two sisters, Marilyn Porter, Morgantown, WV and Naomi Jean Fortune, Smyrna, TN; two brothers, Derrold Fortune, Sr., Ringgold, TX; and Donald Giamaria, New Orleans, LA; five aunts; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Deward Odell Thomason and his grandmother, Kate Rich.
Pallbearers included: Tony Fox, Randy Hobbs, John Barnett, Mark Hanson, Bobby Terry and Charlie Norman. Honorary pallbearers include: Junior Sims, Randy Pitts, James Lawrence, Johnny Welsh, and Stephen Spikes.
Lola L. Geurin
Lola L. Geurin, 86, of Saint Jo, TX, passed away on January 20, 2003 in a nursing home in Nocona, TX.
She was born October 29, 1916 in Blanchard, OK to P.L. McClure and Lillian McClure. She married Jake Geurin n 1935 in Chickasha, OK. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was an Avon representative and homemaker. Mrs. Geurin was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Saint Jo, TX.
Survivors include: one son, Gary (Butch) Geurin of Saint Jo, TX; two grandchildren, Kelly Don Geurin of Saint Jo, TX and Kody D. Patrick of Nocona, TX; and four great grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Geurin were on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clarence Russell officiating. Interment followed in Mountain Creek Cemetery, Montague Co., TX
Pallbearers were Billy Heltcel, Floyd Stark, Wayne Grewing, Gary Caswell, Norman Caswell and Doie Allen.
Bill Winkler
Bill Winkler, 69, of Lubbock, TX passed away on January 20, 2003 in Lubbock, TX.
Mr. Winkler was born on January 7, 1934 in Optimo, NM. He was a rancher and of the Church of Christ faith. He was a member of the Lincoln County Sheriffs Possee in Carrizozo, NM. Mr. Winkler served in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services for Mr. Winkler were held on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Bellevue Church of Christ Church with C.E. "Sonny" Cole officiating. Interment was held in Bellevue Cemetery in Bellevue, TX under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one brother, Sam Winkler, Bowie, TX; one niece, Cindy Webb, Springtown, TX; one nephew, Tim, Winkler, Denver City, TX; four grand nephews; and three grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.E. and Edna Winkler.
Pallbearers included: Alan Davis, Raymond Gill, Keith Davis, Charles Tyson, Jackie Gill, and Gabe Davis.
Leveda Foster Cave
Leveda Foster Cave, 81, of Runaway Bay, TX passed away on January 13, 2003 in Fort Worth, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cave were held on January 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel with Jim Gray officiating. Interment was held in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Clarion Cave, Runaway Bay, TX; three daughters, Nell Hawkins, Waco, TX, Geri Johnson and Carolyn Maserang, both of Fort Worth, TX; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, J.L. Davis, Kathleen, FL; and two sisters, Loretta Spurs, Keller, TX and Bettye Bell, Bowie, TX. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Clifford Foster; four brothers, two sisters; and her parents.
Fannie Lucy Groves
Fannie Lucy Groves, 90, of Nocona, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2003 in Nocona, TX.
Mrs. Groves was born on October 6, 1912 in Montague County, Texas to Henry Thomas and Patricia Jane Arnold Roberts. She was a member of the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church. She married Claude Groves on Nov. 20, 1935 in Montague, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Services for Mrs. Groves were held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church with Rev. Rod Messer and Nicky Anzalone officiating. Burial was in the Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Survivors include: three sons, Bobby Groves, Gabe Groves and Homer Groves, all of Nocona, Texas; four daughters, Fannie Bell Curnutte and Dorothy Etter, both of Gainesville, Texas, Annie Mae Groves, Nocona, Texas and Nancy Lester of Wilson, OK; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Scott Hilburn, Jeff Nichols, Robby Lester, Jimmy Groves, Wayne Cook, Juan Cervantes and Steven Curran.
"Bill" William Carrell Lawson
"Bill" William Carrell Lawson, 71, of Ringgold, TX, passed away on February 8, 2003 at Texhoma Christian Care Center in Wichita Falls, TX.
He was born Sept. 20, 1931 in Gainesville, TX to Emmett and Bessie Cassel Lawson. On January 31, 1951 he married Oma Frances "Fran" Lemons in Ringgold, TX. Mr. Lawson retired as Superintendent of Gold-Burg Schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was member of the Methodist faith, and a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge #210.
Survivors include: his wife, Fran Lawson of Ringgold, TX; two sons, Clay Lawson of Leakey, TX and Chuck Lawson of Denton, TX.
Services were on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ringgold Baptist Church in Ringgold, TX with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating. Scott-Morris Funeral Home on Nocona directed the service. Interment followed in Ringgold Cemetery.
