Jeane Carriker
Jeane Carriker, 70, of Bowie, Texas, passed away on May 10, 2003 in Bowie, Texas.
Mrs. Carriker was born on January 7, 1933 in Millsap, Texas. She married Olie Carriker on September 16, 1949 in Mineral Wells, Texas. She was a resident of Bowie for 42 years. Mrs. Carriker was a homemaker and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Bowie. She was also a member of the Bowie Chamber of Commerce and the Bowie Business and Professional Women’s Organization and a member of the Jim Bowie Saddle Club. She completed the unfinished term of her husband, Olie Carriker, as Justice of Peace, Precint 2. She was a partner in the family business, KBAN Radio in Bowie until she and her husband, Olie, retired from the radio ownership.
Graveside services for Mrs. Carriker were held on May 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Greg Newton officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home.
Survivors include: one son, Dr. Lee Carriker of Boerne,TX; two daughters, Deborah Bradfield of Bowie and Carla Miller of Boyd; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Anastas of Jacksboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leslie Boss Wilhite, Jr
Leslie Boss Wilhite, Jr., 80, of Bowie, Texas, passed away on May 8, 2003 at a nursing home in Bowie, Texas.
Mr. Wilhite was born on June 17, 1922 in Bowie, TX to Leslie Boss Wilhite, Sr. and Lela Cleveland Arellige Wilhite. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and served in the US Navy aboard the USS San Francisco and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
Services will be at a later date.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Debbie L. Mullins and Vickie Schell, both of Bowie, TX; two sons, Leslie L. Wilhite of Arlington, TX and Michael D. Wilhite of Forestburg, TX; one sister, Bonnie Jean Halpain of Kemp, TX; one brother, William (Bill) Arthur Wilhite of Arlington, TX; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Matthew Joseph Kerr
Matthew Joseph Kerr, 15, of Nocona, Texas passed away on May 8, 2003 at his home.
Matthew was born January 30, 1988 in Muenster, TX to Richard and Sharon Brewer Kerr. He was a student at Nocona Middle School and was involved in athletics, was on the football and track team. He enjoyed his shop and computer class and was in the Boy Scouts of Troop 108.
Funeral services for Matthew Kerr were held on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was at the Starkey Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his parents, Richard and Sharon Kerr of Nocona, TX; three brothers, Robert Boggess, Cody Brewer and Leo Kerr, all of Nocona, TX.
A.L. "Jake" Fuller
A.L. "Jake" Fuller, 83, of San Diego, CA passed away on April 29, 2003 in Grossmont Hospital in San Diego.
Mr. Fuller was born on July 5, 1919 in Buffalo Springs, TX to Dennis and Eula Cozart Fuller. He married Mildred Ford in 1936. They moved to San Diego in 1942, but he always said he was from Texas. After a medical discharge from the Army he worked for the City of San Diego reading water meters. There he met Jim Coulter and they started building houses. He later bought Coulter’s share and continued as a general contractor until he retired. He was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church for 53 years. He loved sports and played on the church softball team, played golf and was a keen bridge player.
Memorial services for Mr. Fuller were held on May 5, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Ray of, San Diego, CA; one daughter, Sheryl of Trenton, NJ; one brother, Bud Fuller, Buffalo Springs, TX; two sisters, Valere Althouse of Dallas, TX and Nell Stell of Buffalo Springs, TX; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, who passed away in 1994; two brothers, Arnold and Bill Fuller.

Johnny Lee Britain
Johnny Lee Britain, 69, Forestburg, TX, passed away May 22, 2003 at Select Specialty Hospital in Dallas,TX.
Mr. Britain was born on June 8, 1933 in Irving, TX to Roy Lee and Vestha Marie Mullican Britain. He married Jimmie Eleanor Kuykendall on January 8, 1955 in Gainesville, TX. He lived most of his life in Forestburg growing up on a dairy farm. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in the Korean conflict. He worked as a mechanic and heliarc welder for Braniff Airlines for about 25 years. He was a Christian.
Funeral services for Mr. Britain were held Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Forestburg Church of Christ with C.E. Cole, and Loyd Morris officiating. Interment was at Hardy Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Jimmie Britain, Forestburg, TX; one daughter, Terri Lee Escbedo, Gainesville, TX; two sons, Alan Guy Britain and Roy Douglas Britain, both of Forestburg, TX; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Wilson, Kaufman, TX and Shirley Elms, Canton, TX; and two brothers, Richard Harold Britain, Caddo, OK and Larry Krajca, Frankston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Brantley and Betty Wicks.
Pallbearers included: Jason Britain, Justin Britain, Jared Britain, Jon Britain, Brad Escobedo, and Barry Escobedo. Honorary pallbearers included: Dean Freeland, Brad Pierce and Robert Powell.
Una V. Mitchell
Una V. Mitchell, 88, of Bowie, TX, passed away May 20, 2003 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on December 12, 1914 in Stoneburg, TX. She married John Isac Mitchell in 1940 at Bowie, TX. She was a member of a large family and was a homemaker. She was a resident of Bowie for sixty years. She was a member of the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ.
Graveside services for Mrs. Mitchell were held on Sunday, May 5, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with David Hall officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Terry Mitchell, Bowie, TX; one granddaughter, Amy Diane Booker, Bedford, TX; one grandson, Timothy Ike Mitchell, Arlington, TX; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Latham, Spring Branch, TX and "Toppie", Ft Worth, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Isac Mitchell in 1987 and one son, John "Ike" Mitchell in 2002.
Mary Lou Tipton
Mary Lou Tipton, 85, of Nocona, TX, passed away on May 21, 2003 at Horizon Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Tipton was born on August, 25, 1917 in Brashear, TX to William Henry Harrison and Mary Ellen Bailey Gilliam. She retired from Wichita Falls State Hospital and Nocona General Hospital in the Housekeeping Department.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Tipton on Friday, May 23, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Lucas officiating. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Wayne Myers, Wichita Falls, TX and Ronald Myers, Bastrop, TX; one daughter, Linda Holcomb, Nocona, TX; one brother, James Gilliam, Sulphur Springs, TX; and her best friend Mildred Thompson, Wichita Falls, TX: two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Edgar Ray Brasher
Edgar Ray Brasher, 69, of Wichita Falls, TX, passed away on May 23, 2003 at American Habilitation Services.
Mr. Brasher was born on March 26, 1934 in Wichita Falls. He was a production worker in the manufacturing industry. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
Graveside services for Mr. Brasher were held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Charles Nichols officiating. Burial was under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: Step-mother, Elizabeth Brasher, Bowie, TX; one step-sister, Mary A. Clampett, Bowie, TX; one step-brother, Tom Armstrong , Wichita Falls, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edd Brasher, in Nov. 1997.
Clifford W. Kelly
Clifford W. Kelly, 76, of Bowie, TX passed away May 19, 2003 at Denton Regional Hospital.
Mr. Kelly was born November, 7, 1926. He married Fae Lucas on November 20, 1948 in Houston, TX. He was the owner of Kelly Automotive Supply. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Bowie, TX.
Funeral services for Mr. Kelly were held Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Lamberson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Fae Kelly, Bowie, TX; two sons, Steven W. Kelly, Bowie, TX and Patrick L. Kelly, Albany, TX; two daughters, Debora A. Kelly, Denton, TX and Karen P. Hendon, Bowie, TX ; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: Robert Preuninger, Michael Kelly, Hugh Wolff, Jarrid Hendon, Charles Tyson, and Doyle Seigler. Honorary pallbearers included: Floyd St. John and Jack Lamberson.
