Votra Vowell
Votra Vowell, age 91, of Nocona, TX, passed away August 26, 2003 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Vowell was born May 15, 1912 in Cumberland, OK to Mary Ethel Goggans and John S. White. She was married to Boss McNew for thirty-five years, and Obie Vowell who she was married to for twenty-five years. She owned and operated McNew Grocery in Nocona and was also a nurse at the Denton State School. She was raised and saved in the Church of the Brethern and later became a member of the Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vowell were held Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Scott Morris Chapel with Rev. Les Ryan officiating. Internment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three daughters, Helen Brothers, Sue Price and Joan Kirk, all of Nocona, TX; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; two great great great grandchildren; and one brother, Eulas White, Saint David, AZ.
Pallbearers included: Terry Cobb, Tom Price, John Price, Brandon Price, Jack York, and J.W. Patterson. Honorary pallbearers include: Tommy Eldred, Robert Brothers and Billy Brothers.

Edith “Edie” Shannon
Edith “Edie” Shannon, age 91, of Bowie, TX, passed away August 28, 2003 in Bowie Nursing Center.
Mrs. Shannon was born May 5, 1912 in Tonopah, NV. She married Herman Ward Shannon in Pamona, CA. She was a resident of Detroit, MI for 20 years; and a prior longtime resident of Joshua Tree, CA. She was a charter member of the “Sportettes” in Joshua Tree, CA and was a homemaker.
There was no funeral services for Mrs. Shannon.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Barbara J. Haire, Bowie, TX; one son, Jon H. Shannon, Pleasanton, CA; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miriam Parr
Miraim Parr, age 77, of Bowie, TX, passed away August 25, 2003 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Parr was born May 30, 1926 in Terrell, TX. She married T.J. “Bud” Parr, Jr. on January 19, 1946 in Montague, TX. She was a member of the Pleasant Mound Free Will Baptist Church in Buffalo Springs, TX. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Parr were held Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dan Farmer officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, T.J. “Bud” Parr, Jr., Bowie, TX; one son, John C. Parr, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Patricia Ann Parr, Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Doyle Parr, Nocona, TX; two sisters, Lucille Knieff, Mineral Wells, TX and Barbara Ann Gamble, Mesquite, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: Robert Jones, Tommy Parr, Paul Parr, Stanley Maxwell, Steve Parr and Buck Fuller.

Texas Miller Patton
Texas Miller Patton, age 61, of Montague, TX, passed away August 25, 2003 in Montague, TX.|
Mrs. Patton was born January 20, 1942 in Wheeler, TX to Virginia and Rex Miller. She married Sammy Don Patton on May 11, 1982 in Wheeler, TX. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wheeler, TX. She was a manager of the Brisco Grain Elevator in Brisco, TX for two years and Compound Manager for T. Boone Pickens Hunting Ranch in Pampa, TX. She was a department manager at Bowie Wal-Mart and Decatur Wal-Mart for six and a half years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Patton were held Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Allison United Methodist Church in Allison, TX with Rev. Ricky Carstensen officiating. Funeral services were under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Sammy Don Patton, Montague, TX; four sons, Ronnie Bill Childress, Stinnett, TX, C. Duane Childress, White Oak, TX, Thom Childress, Wildwood, MO; and Bobby Don Patton, Coppell, TX; one daughter, Misty Kay Harrison, Township, MI; fifteen grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Miller, Spearman, TX and Kelly Miller, Houghton, KS; one sister, Linda Beth Banger, Amarillo, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Virginia Miller.
Pallbearers included: Hiram Begert, Bob Cornell, Larry Elmore, Domer Miller, Danny Miller, and Chuck Timmens.

Rickey Linn Todd
Rickey Linn Todd, age 48, of Bowie, TX, passed away August 26, 2003 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Todd was born March 18, 1955 in Dalhart, TX to Jimmie and Marilyn Todd. He was a longtime resident of Lake Lavon, TX and of Nocona, TX before moving to Bowie. He was an Electrician, a member of the Baptist faith and a member of the Bowie AA Group.
Funeral services for Mr. Todd were held Friday, August 29, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. C.A. Johnson officiating. Interment was at Salona Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Jesica Lyn Todd and Stacey Ann Todd, both of Bowie, TX; his parents, Jimmie and Marilyn Todd, Bowie, TX; three sisters, Selina Kay Todd, Pensacola, FL, and Lisa Jackson and Gay Lunette Todd, both of Bowie, TX; two nieces; two nephews; one great nephew; a special friend; Dianna Grimsley, Bowie, TX; and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Pallbearers included; Lyete Jackson, Clifton Harvin, Danny Russell, Shane Green, Bud Griffin, and Steve Griffin. Honorary pallbearers include David Holcomb, Johnny Picture, Christopher Cruikshank, Charlie Watts, James Paulk, David Richardson, Tommy Hayes and Billy Tasker.

Opal Moore
Opal Moore, age 79, of Bowie, passed away July 15, 2003 at Fort Worth, TX.
Mrs. Moore was born April 4, 1924 in Bowie, TX. She married Everett Ray Moore in 1949. She grew up in Bowie, taught school, worked for Neiman-Marcus, Bell Telephone as an operator and office manager in Fort Worth and Bowie. She retired from the Telephone Company to raise her children. After the children were grown, she was employed at the First National Bank of Bowie for many years, until her retirement. She formerly served as a member of the Bowie City Council. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie where she taught in the Children’s Department for 23 years and was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class.
Funeral services for Mrs. Moore were held Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie with Rev. C.A. Johnson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Vicki Moore Stewart, Denton, TX; one son, Larry Moore, Bowie, TX; one granddaughter, Heather Moore Slack, Highland Village, TX; one grandson, Spencer Moore, Dallas, TX; and one brother, Raymond Barlow, Farmington, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband E.R. Moore in 1977.
Pallbearers included: Jerry Cantwell, Joe Falsone, Brian Rhoades, Bert Harvill, Ronnie Hankins and Charles Blanton. Honorary pallbearers included: Tom Brown, Sandy Brickey

Jerry Don Towery
Jerry Don Towery, age 64, of Nocona, TX, passed away July 19, 2003 at URHCS 11th Street in Wichita Falls.
Mr. Towery was born April 28, 1939 in Ryan, OK to Pearl Mae Hamilton and T.P. "Son" Towery. He married Nicki Towery and worked in oilfield, Nocona Boot Company for 10 years and owned and operated a boot and shoe repair shop. He was Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 483 in Saint Jo, TX.
Masonic Graveside Rites for Mr. Towery were held Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Robert Fenoglio as the speaker. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Nicki Towery, Nocona, TX; his children, Tamera Smith, Ft Worth, TX, Donald Keith and Kathy Towery, , Ricky Lynn Towery, Mark Stephen and Tara Towery, Andy and Michelle Sappington and Marti Reed, all of Nocona, TX; nineteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Preston Keith, Nocona, TX; and a father-in-law, Reece Gibson, Nocona, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Mae, and T.P. "Son" Towery and a infant brother, Jimmy Towery.
