Hily M. Roberts
Hily M. Roberts, 98, of Bowie, TX passed away on November 21, 2002 at Bellmire Healthcare.
Mrs. Roberts was born on October 31, 1904 in Bloomfield, TX. She married J.P. Roberts on February 8, 1923 in Bowie, TX. She was a homemaker and worked as an office assistant for the County School Superintendent in Montague County. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Bowie, a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Bowie Chapter of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts were held on Sunday, November 24, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dora Porter, Bowie, TX and Mrs. Pearl Porter, Odessa, TX; eight nieces and nephews, Kenneth Porter, Tyler, TX, Wayne Porter, Lynn Roberts, Marjorie Gilmore, all of Bowie, TX, Jackie Abbott, Channelview, TX, Leon Porter, Midland, TX, Carol Porter, Odessa, TX and Charlene Girndt, Ganado, TX; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, J. P. Roberts in 1980; and two brothers, Weldon Porter in 1983 and Harmon Porter in 1994.
Pallbearers included: Joe Rumbaugh, Gary Griswold, Wade Brown, Jimmie Gaskins, Pete Crosson and Larry Sanders.
Bennie Pearl Fite
Bennie Pearl Fite, 80, of Ringgold, TX passed away on November 22, 2002 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Fite was born on November 5, 1922 in Dublin, TX to Patrick and Iva Mae Robinson McLaughlin. She married Coy D. Fite. She was a homemaker, a member of the Nocona Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Ringgold Community.
Graveside services for Mrs. Fite were held on Sunday, November 24, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at Ringgold Cemetery with Dale Scott officiating. Services were directed by Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two children, C.D. "Jake" Fite, Burkburnett, TX and Kathy Fite Frank, Ringgold, TX; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fite was preceded in death by her husband on February 12, 2002.
Pallbearers included: Jerry Walker, Charles Kidwell, Tom Crabtree, Sonny Fenoglio, Larry Fenoglio and Lloyd Bouldin.
James Lee and Faith Meeks
James Lee and Faith Meeks, Poolville, TX passed away on November 18, 2002 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Parker County.
Mr. Meeks was born on September 8, 1962 in Fort Worth to Bobbie Lee and Polly Meeks. He and Faith had been residents of Poolville for four months and formerly lived in Burleson. Mr. Meeks was a production manager for a sheet metal company and Faith was a medical biller for a health service organization. Mrs. Meeks was born on May 28, 1965 in Fort Worth.
Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Meeks were held on Friday, November 22, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Valley Chapel. Interment was held in Baker-Lain Cemetery.
Survivors for Mr. Meeks include: one son, Braedon James Meeks, Poolville, TX; his parents, Bobbie and Polly Meeks, Bowie, TX; one brother, John Wesley Meeks, Bowie, TX; one sister, Leslie Dawn Meeks, Dallas, TX; one niece, Caedmon Meeks, Bowie, TX; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors for Mrs. Meeks include: one son, Braedon Meeks, Poolville, TX; her mother, Jane Hayes, Poolville, TX; one aunt, Bertha Jo Pruitt, Crowley, TX; and cousins, Pam Glazener, Aledo, TX and Kathy Daniels, Burleson, TX.
Reba Hickman
Reba Hickman, 96, of Bowie, TX passed away on November 22, 2002 at Bellmire Healthcare.
Mrs. Hickman was born on September 25, 1906 in Brock, TX. She married Leonard Hickman on July 10, 1926 in Electra, TX. She was a homemaker and taught school at Bugscuffle School from 1941 to 1944. She worked at the Style Shop in Bowie and later at Bradley Jewelry in Bowie for several years. Mrs. Hickman was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hickman were held on Monday, November 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Rumbaugh officiating. Interment was held in Prairie Branch Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Jim Hickman, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Mrs. Lenore Lengyel, Springfield, MI; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Vadine Bullock, Kaufman, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hickman was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Cad" Hickman in 1982; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo Roberson in 2002 and Slick Roberson in 1982; one brother, T.V. Allen in 1998 and two sisters.
Pallbearers included: Jimmy Hickman, Ty Turkett, Doug Hickman, John Roberson, Roger Lengyel and Jeff Russell.
Johnnie Beryl Berry
Johnnie Beryl Berry, 83, of Nocona, TX, passed away on November 25, 2002 in Lutz, FL. Mrs. Berry was born May 15, 1919 in Spanish Fort, TX to S.D. Schrock and Birdie Ford Schrock.
She was a homemaker and a member of the "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII.
Services were conducted Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley View Baptist Church of Spanish Fort, TX with interment following in the Spanish Fort Cemetery.
Survivors include: four children, Jimmie Fortner of Seattle, WA, Linda Clark of Tampa, FL, Richard Saxwold of Nocona, TX and Alice Berry Thomas of Bowie, TX; and one brother, S.D. Schrock, Jr. "Ted" of Seattle, WA.
Oleta Lesh
Oleta Lesh, age 85, of Georgetown, TX, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2002 in Georgetown. She was born in Nocona, TX September 17, 1917 to James Achilles Henry and Navada Ely Henry. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
Mrs. Lesh was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters and her husband, Tom Lesh.
She is survived by: one sister, Rowena Edgeman of Georgetown; a sister-in-law, Marine Johnson of Nocona; and several nephews and cousins.
Services for Mrs. Lesh were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown with Rev. Bayard Pratt officiating. Interment services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2002 at Nocona City Cemetery in Nocona with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating. Local services were under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona.
Mattie Falkner Griffin
Mattie Falkner Griffin, 94, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at her daughter’s home in Saint Jo, TX.
She was born November 16, 1908 to Andrew Jackson Falkner and Iola Banes Falkner in the Plainview Community, Jester, OK. She grew up on the farm where she was born and attended Plainview School. She was a member of the Baptist Church and Farm Women’s Club.
She is survived by: one daughter, Linda of Saint Jo, TX; one grandson, Dustin Mayfield of Denton, TX; two granddaughters, Mindy Hobbs of Denton, TX and Melissa Reed of Paris, TX; one sister, Edna Begert of Pampa, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard Griffin, six brothers, two sisters and a special friend, George Elliot.
Services were held Monday, December 2, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum, OK with Rev. Gary Bradley officiating. Interment was in Plainview Cemetery, Jester, OK under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, OK.
