Marjorie Langford
Marjorie Langford, age 78, of Mesquite, TX passed away October 9, 2003 in Mesquite, TX.
Mrs. Langford was born July 5, 1925 in Seymour, TX to Gertrude and Will Wirz. She married B.J. Langford. She received a B.A. in Education from Texas Woman’s University and taught in D.I.S.D. for eleven years. She served and volunteered for many committees and community services through her membership at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church.
A celebration of her life was held Monday, October 13, 2003 at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery in Nocona, TX.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Joseph D. Langford and William Nelson; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Amelia; four brothers, George Wirz, Lubbock, TX, Jim Wirz, Monett, MO, Paul Wirz, Chattanooga, TX and Buddy Wirz, Phoenix, AZ; and one sister, Annie Rose Shock, Midland, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Langford in May of 1997.

Pearl Irene Welch Tatum
Pearl Irene Welch Tatum, age 94, of Nocona, TX passed away October 7, 2003 in the Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Tatum was born September 27, 1909 in Ringgold, TX to Rosa Cary and John M. Peveler. She married Alvin L. Welch August 19, 1932. Alvin died in June of 1949. She worked for Justin Leather Goods for several years and while working there, she met and married Thurman Tatum on July 3, 1953. She was a member of the Church of Christ, participating in many missionary campaigns for the church. She had worked for Our Drug Store and at the General Hospital as an Aide.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum were held Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Nocona Church of Christ with Dale Scott officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Quintin Welch, Nocona, TX and Jimmy Welch, Austin, TX; two daughters, Jean Daughtery, Sacramento, CA and Barbara Shaw, Arlington, TX; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Sunderland, and Flo Huffman, both of Weatherford, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Cary and John M. Pevelers; both husbands, Alvin L. Welch and Thurman Tatum; two sisters; and one brother.

Orlan “Simp” Wall
Orlan “Simp” Wall, age 88, of Bowie, TX passed away October 3, 2003 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Wall was born March 13, 1915 in Newport, TX. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a rancher and was owner, with his father of Wall Broom Factory in Bowie for many years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Wall were held Monday, October 6, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Paul A. Henderson officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: a very special friend, Ruth Wright, Bowie, TX; cousins, Kenneth Thompson, Albuquerque, NM, Richard Harvey Thompson, Albuquerque, NM, Donald Langston, Ft. Worth, TX, J.N. Langston, Ft Worth, TX, Versel Johnson, Electra, TX, Clifford Wall, St. Charles, MO, Forrest Wall, Bowie, TX, Ray Wall, Richmond, TX; and several other cousins.
Pallbearers included: Gene Moxley, Aubrey Bohannah, George A. Hamilton, Brock Lyons, Jake Jordon and Gary Moxley. Honorary pallbearers: Lee Phagan, Weldon Pipkin and Robert Pope.

"Bobby" Robert Glenn Chupp
"Bobby" Robert Glenn Chupp, 48 of Nocona, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2003 in his home.
Mr. Chupp was born on November 25, 1954 in Nocona, Texas to Ivan Geoffrey and Gladys McCant Chupp. He was the owner of Chupp’s Construction Co., an oilfield construction company.
Services for Mr. Chupp were held on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ with Minister Dale Scott officiating. Interment was held in the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his three sisters, Joyce Meador of Dallas,TX, Lema Worley of Tulsa, OK and Kris Horton of Lubbock,TX; and one brother, Steve Chupp of Argyle,TX.

Bettie M. Rater
Bettie M. Rater, 95 of Bellevue, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2003 in Bellmire Healthcare Facilities.
Mrs. Rater was born on March 10, 1908 in Gomez, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Bellevue before moving to Bowie 11 years ago. Mrs. Rater was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bellevue where she was an officer in the WMU. She was born in a half dug out, to Agnes and A.O. Brand and lived there until she was 6 months old at which time she and her family moved to Clay County, Texas. She lived in Clay County for most of her life. She was honored to serve as a Duchess in the Clay County Pioneer Reunion in 1979. She graduated high school in Oak Cliff, Dallas.
Services for Mrs. Rater were held on May 14, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bellevue with Rev. Dale Brooks officiating. Interment was held in the Prospect Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Survivors include: her three daughters, Bettie Jo Wetsel of Fort Worth, TX, Shirley Graham of Bowie, TX, and Rosalee Rhone of Bellevue, TX; one son, Johnny Brand Rater of Buffalo Springs, TX; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Gilbert of Bowie, TX, and Ellen Rater of Bonham,TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband J.S. Rater and one infant daughter and one infant son.
Pallbearers were: Roy Killen, Tandy Rater, Johnny Orville Wetsel, Mike Killen, Kyle Rater, Chris Rhone, Stacy Rater, Brian Rhone and Dewayne Nored.

Jack T. Dort
Mr. Jack T. Dort, 78, of Brownwood, TX passed away May 15, 2003 at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Dort was born October 8, 1924 in Saint Jo, TX to Kelsey and Katherine Dort. He married Charlotte Clark on September 1, 1957 in Canyon, TX. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bowie. Mr. Dort grew up in Bowie, attended Bowie Public Schools, and graduated Bowie High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He worked for Shell Oil Co. for many years as a surveyor. After retiring, he moved to Brownwood, TX.
Graveside services for Mr. Dort were held Monday, May 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gail Zoya officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Charlotte Dort, Brownwood, TX; two daughters, Donna Dort, Durango, CO, and Dena Tensa, Beaverton, OR; one son, David Dort, Slidell, LA; three granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelsey and Katherine Dort; and one sister, Frances Dort.
Honorary pallbearers included: Raymond McDaniel, Bud Drennan, Ken Harris, and Jerry Engler.

Richard Dale (Dick) Williford
Richard Dale (Dick) Williford, 56, of Roswell, NM, passed away on May 4, 2003 in his residence.
Mr. Williford was born on September 6, 1946 in Nocona to Shirley and Katherine Grimsley Williford. On February 8, 1983 he married Janice Hallin Ruidosa, NM. He was a land appraiser. Mr. Williford served in the US Navy, Viet Nam War, and was a member of the VFW.
Memorial services for Mr. Williford were held on May 24, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nocona Cemetery. Burial was under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Janice Williford of Pottsboro, TX; his mother, Katherine Williford of Nocona, TX; one daughter, Bridgett Porter of Gainesville; two step-children, Shawna Miciak of Montgomery and S/Sgt. Lance Gruben of New Castle, IN; two nieces, Jana McGill and JoAnn White, both of Pasaden, TX; and four grandchildren, Danielle and Courtney Porter and Tyler and Kaci Heath.

Lela Faye Jennings
Lela Faye Jennings, age 87, of Ft. Worth, TX passed away October 31, 2003 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Mrs. Jennings was born September 3, 1916 in Vernon, TX to May Daugherty and Martin L. Wilcox. She married John Ed Jennings, September 11, 1937 in Duncan, OK. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Gainesville, TX and was a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennings were held Monday, November 3, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Jed A. Jennings, Ft Worth, TX and Gary Michael Jennings, Gainesville, TX; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
