Rodney “Buddy” Briggs
Rodney “Buddy” Briggs, age 57, of Wichita Falls, TX passed away October 29, 2003 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Briggs was born May 2, 1946 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was an auto body repairman. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 in Bowie. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 until 1968.
Graveside services for Mr. Briggs were held Thursday, November 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. Interment was at the Sunset Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Brady Aulton, Wichita Falls, TX; one daughter, Kayla Louann Franks, Norfolk, VA; one granddaughter, Breanna Elizabeth Briggs, Wichita Falls, TX; the mother of his children; Donnita Haye, Wichita Falls, TX; his father, Aulton F. Briggs, Duncan, OK; two sisters, Sharon Martin, Duncan, OK and Sue Ann Anderson, Springfield, SC and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Walker.
Opal E. Karsteter
Opal E. Karsteter, age 90, of Littleton, CO passed away November 1, 2003 in Little, Colorado.
Mrs. Karsteter was born December 3, 1913 in Stoneburg, TX. She was the star of her basketball team and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She married Burton Karsteter and settled in the Bowie area in the 1940’s and raised her children while her husband, Burton was in Europe during WWII. She was a volunteer at the Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Furneral services for Mrs. Karsteter were held Friday, November 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the White Family Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Merwin Turner officiating. Interment was at Elmwood cemetery under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her daughter, Linda June , Schell, Littleton, CO; one son, Robert Burton Karsteter, Gettsburg, PA; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Burton Karsteter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bowie, or to a charity of your choice.
Christine Garrett
Christine Garrett, age 76, of Bowie, TX passed away November 3, 2003 in Belmire Healthcare Facilities in Bowie, TX.
Mrs. Garrett was born November 13, 1926 in Vernon, TX. She married Raymond Garrett on November 7, 1946 in Bowie, TX. She was a resident of Bowie for over 70 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie and a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Bowie Eastern Star Chapter #16 in Bowie and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was a social worker for the Texas Department of Human Services for many years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Garrett were held Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Darius McKay officiating. Interment was held at the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Raymond Garrett, Bowie, TX; two daugthers, Beverly Deweber, Bowie, TX, and Janis Perrenot, Dallas, TX; four grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Carter Sledge, Bowie, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: James E. Scruggs, Larry Carter, Phillip Scruggs, Richard Carter, L. Ray Dominy, and Garry Carter. Honorary pallbearers include: Tommy Scruggs, Gene Scruggs, James Paul Dominy, James Blackmon, and Timothy Scruggs.

Josiah George DeWolfe
Josiah George DeWolfe, infant, of Newark, TX passed away October 24, 2003 in the Harris-Methodist Hospital in Forth Worth, TX.
Josiah was born October 23, 2003 in Fort Worth to Todd Piotr DeWolfe and Jennifer Michelle (Wolf) DeWolfe.
Graveside services for Josiah George DeWolfe were held Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Coker Cemetery in Cooke County, TX with Rev. Dan Hunt officiating. Interment was under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Jack Houston
Jack Houston, age 78, of Bowie, TX passed away November 2, 2003 at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, TX.
Mr. Houston was born October 21, 1925 in Crosbyton, TX. He married Eloise Browning on April 26, 1953 in Bowie, TX. He was a consultant in the oil industry and a resident of Bowie for forty years. He is a member of the Free Will Baptist Faith. He was a member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge #578 A.F. & A.M. When first in the oil business, he was in Jacksboro, TX and co-owned Jacksboro Fishing Tools and then moved to Bowie and started Jack Houston Drilling Company until his retirement in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Bowie Masonic Lodge #578 A.F. & A.M. Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Eloise Houston, Bowie, TX; one son, Greg D. Houston, Bowie, TX; one daughter, T.Kim Lee, Bowie, TX; three granddaughters, one great grandson; two sisters, Joyce Wisley, Lamesa, CA, and Sammie Ethridge, Lubbock, TX; one brother, Kenneth Houston, Carlsbad, NM; and Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Houston, and Johnny Houston; and one sister.
Pallbearers include: Kenny Browning, Dean Yarbro, David Rhyne, Shane Gilmore, Kevin Browning and Rick Russell. Honorary pallbearers include: May Poyner, Glenn Poyner, Joe Corpening, Junior Haney, Joe Bellar and Robert Coggin.
R.E “Eva” Gilbert
Mrs. R.E. “Eva” Gilbert,, age 92, of Bowie, TX passed away November 9, 2003 at the Bowie Nursing Center in Bowie, TX.
Mrs. Gilbert was born February 24, 1911 in Prospect, TX. She married R.E. Gilbert in 1934 in Prospect, TX. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie where she was a member of the Esther Sunday school Class. She enjoyed volunteering her time at the hospital and nursing homes. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert were held Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bowie with Rev. Darius McKay and Rev. Ben Wiseman officiating. Interment was at the Newport Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, W.C. Gilbert, Newport, TX; one grandson, Russell Gilbert, Savannah, GA; one granddaughter, Ginger Schmid, Dallas, TX; four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. B.E. Rater, Bonham, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: John Holland, Roy Curry, Ralph Gann, Buck Barker, Ben Holland and Tommy Hayes.

Mildred “Faye” Snider
Mildred “Faye” Snider, age 84, of Bowie, TX passed away November 9, 2003 in Bowie, TX.
Mrs. Snider was born March 27, 1919 in Sherman, TX to Ethel Almeda Barker Cox and Grover Cleveland Bryant. She married John F. Snider June 1, 1948 in Weatherford, TX. She retired from General Dynamics in 1963 and was a homemaker in Decatur where they lived for about forty years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bowie and taught Sunday School and was very active in her church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Snider were held Wednesday November 12, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Interment was at Sandhill Cemetery in Decatur under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Roger Snider, Stigler, OK; one daughter, Nancy Schaal, Bowie, TX; five brothers, Jack A.G. Cox, Sherman, TX, Royce Eugene Cox, Gun Barrel City, TX, Coy Dean Claiborne, Longview, TX, Charles Burton Cox and John Dee Cox, both of Coer D’Alene, ID; four sisters, Zuela Pennington, Corpus Christi, TX, Jo Ann Arnold, Finleyville, PA, Martha Louise Wolf, Quincy, WA and Abbie Lee Strokes, Salmon, ID; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included: Craig Pennington, Craig Shaw, Chris Shaw, Ronnie Shaw, Tom Wilkes and Tommy Wilkes.
Carla Graves
Carla Graves, age 33, of Bellevue, TX passed away October 19, 2003 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Graves was born March 10, 1970 in Bowie, TX to Charles Norman and Georgia Star Gilstrap. She married William “Bill” Graves on November 8, 1996 in Bowie, TX. She was a member of the Baptist faith and a homemaker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Graves were held Thursday, October 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vashti, TX with Rev. Dave Maher and Rev. Dale Webster officiating. Interment was at the Bellevue Cemetery with Fry Funeral Home officiating.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, William “Bill” Graves, Bellevue, TX; one son, Matthew Scott Graves, Bellevue, TX; her father, Charles Norman and his wife, Kathy Norman, both of Arlington, TX; her mother, Georgia Star Gilstrap, Bellevue, TX; three brothers, Charles Norman, Jr. and Cliff Norman, both of Bellevue, TX, and Tyler Joe Norman, Arlington, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
