J.T. Odle
J.T. Odle, age 87, of Bowie, TX passed away November 25, 2003 in the Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Odle was born December 12, 1915 in Alba, TX. He married Thelma Skelton on August 8, 1939 in McKinney, TX. He was a member of the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ in Bowie. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII. He was a member of the El Paso Masonic Lodge # 130 A.F. & A.M. in El Paso, TX. He was a former member of the Frontier Shores Volunteer Fire Department.
Graveside services for Mr. Odle were held Friday, November 28, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Newport Cemetery with Loyd K. Morris officiating. Interment was under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Thelma Odle, Bowie, TX; three daughters, Sharon Joyce Benson, Memphis, TN, Charlene McWhorter, Marble Falls, TX and Bretta Louise Curlee, El Paso, TX; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue Ann Price
Sue Ann Price, age 67, of Nocona, TX passed away at the URHCSS in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Price was born November 14, 1936 in Nocona, TX to Votra White and Boss McNew. She was a seamstress for Action Line and also worked as a nurse for the Major Clinic. She was involved in starting the Nocona Soft Ball League in Nocona, TX.
Services for Mrs. Price were held Friday, November 28, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. Rod Messer officiating. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three sons, Terry Cobb, Tommy Price and John Cordell Price, all of Nocona, TX; one daughter, Lee Ann Cervantes, Nocona, TX; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Brothers and Joan Kirk, both of Nocona, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Votra and Boss McNew; and her husband, W.H. “Bubs” Price.
Juanita Greenead
Juanita Greenead, age 77, of Forestburg, TX passed away November 28, 2003 in Fort Worth, TX.
Mrs. Greenead was born July 29, 1926 in Marlow OK to A.V. and Lee Etta Freeman. She married R.C. Greanead in Gainesville, TX. She was a member of Mount Zion Church in Cleburne, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Greenead were held Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Forestburg, TX with Gary Sessions officiating. Interment was at Freeman Cemetery under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Ran Greanead, Bridgeport, TX and Gary Greanead, Burleson, TX; one daughter, Barbara Payne, Mineral Springs, AR; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Cornelia Holzbos, Denison, TX.
Pallbearers included: Jerry Gayler, Richard Holley, Gordy Lynch, Charles Hudspeth, Tommy Griffin, Troy Griffin and Bill Hatfield.
Roger Lee Earwood
Roger Lee Earwood, age 80 of Pilot Point, TX passed away November 26, 2003 in Denton, TX.
Mr. Earwood was born October 6, 1923 in Val Verde County, TX near Del Rio to Floyd and Lorene Earwood. He married Mary Hankins Harlan on March 8, 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy in the battles of Guadalcanal and Tarawa, where he was seriously wounded and received a Purple Heart. After an Honorable Discharge in October 1945, he was a professional rodeo rider and worked as a printer for various newspapers in large cities.
He founded Denton Commercial Printing which he owned and operated until 1975, retiring from the printing business in 1987.
Graveside services for Mr. Earwood were held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Todd Atwood officiating. Interment was at Briar Creek Cemetery under the direction of The White Family Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mary Earwood, Pilot Point, TX; one son, Dr. Thomas L. Earwood, Augusta, GA; one daughter, Sharon Harts, Frisco, TX; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Rebecca Harts, Frisco, TX.
Bob Skinner
Bob Skinner, age 76, of Bowie, TX passed away November 28, 2003 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mr. Skinner was born October 22, 1927 in Nocona, TX to Tom and Esta Bell Skinner. He married Janice Jackson on July 27, 1956 in Sunset, TX. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1981 after 34 years of service to fulfill his passion of ranching.
Funeral services for Mr. Skinner were held Sunday, November 30, 2003 at Carter Lake Road Church of Christ with David Hall officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of The White Family Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Janice Skinner, Bowie, TX; two daughters, Lisa Brumley, Denton, TX, and Sean Pistocco, Wichita Falls, TX; five grandchildren; one sister, Helen May; and one brother, T.P. Skinner. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Pete Skinner; and one sister, Imagene Crenshaw.
Nora Agatha (Justice) Gartrell
Nora Agatha (Justice) Gartrell, 88, of Nocona, TX passed away on December 7, 2000 in Nocona Nursing Home.
Mrs. Gartrell was born on February 15, 1912 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Pleasant and Beulah Vaughn Justice. She married Norman Ben Gartrell in 1936 in Glen Rose, Texas. She was a cafe owner and cook. She lived in Forestburg for about 25 years and in Nocona for the past 6 years. Mrs. Gartrell was devoted to her family and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and cooking.
Graveside services for Mrs. Gartrell were held on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ward Branch Cemetery in Glen Rose, Texas. Services were directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, Texas.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Bobbie White, Forestburg, TX; one step-son, Winton Gartrell, Walnut Springs, TX; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gartrell was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Gartrell; her parents, Pleasant and Beulah Justice; one step daughter, Wanda Phillips; two step-sons, Earl and Floyd Gartrell; and one grandson Ricky White.
Jon Michael "Mike" Boyd
Mr. Jon Michael "Mike" Boyd, 49, of Bowie, TX passed away on December 9, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Boyd was born on April 26, 1951 in Bridgeport, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Bridgeport, Texas before moving to Bowie 6 years ago. He was a maintenance foreman at Pioneer Rock Crusher. Mr. Boyd was a member of the Baptist faith. He married Elaine Shurbet on June 26, 1995 at Bowie, Texas.
Graveside services for Mr. Boyd were held on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro, TX with Rev. Gail Zoya officiating. Services were directed by Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mrs. Elaine Boyd, Bowie, TX; one daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Bigley, Cleburne, TX; two step-daughters, Mrs. Stacy Smith, Archer City, TX, and Mrs. Rhonda Heddins, Bowie, TX; one step-son, Darryl Fowler, Nocona, TX; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Izella Boyd, Bowie, TX; one sister, Mrs. Jo Morton, Bowie, Texas and one niece.
Joy E. Smart Younker
Joy E. Smart Younker, 83, of Bowie, TX passed away on December 9, 2000 in Joy, Texas.
Mrs. Younker was born on October 18, 1917 in St. Helena, CA. She married Vernon Milo Younker on October 13, 1935 at Yuma, Arizona. She was a longtime resident of Fontana, CA before moving to Bowie 3 years ago. She was a retired secretary for State Farm Insurance and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie.
Graveside services for Mrs. Younker were held on Monday, December 11, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Brushy Cemetery with Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Services were under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Bob Younker, Joy, TX; four grandchildren, Tara L. Carman, Victoria, TX, Tracie L. Johnson, Bluegrove, TX, Tessa L. Tibbs, Joy, Texas, Robbie Younker, Lancaster, CA; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Bobby Reichart, Hemet, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were: David Carman, Mark Johnson, II, Scott Tibbs, Devin Carman, Mark Johnson, Ryan Younker and Greg Carman.
Honorary pallbearer was Scotty Tibbs.
