Charles "Chock" Orrell
Charles "Chock" Orrell, age 71 of Nocona, passed away on December 6, 2000 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mr. Orrell was born on April 11, 1929 in Hardy, TX. He was a rancher-carpenter.
Services were held on Friday, December 8, 2000 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Lee officiating under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include one sister, Mrs. Betty Broyles of Amarillo, TX; and one brother, Donnie Orrell of Nocona.
Pallbearers were Bob Selc, Tony Barger, Stan Phipps, T.P. Skinner, Dick Walker and Bob Storey.
Donnie Jennings
Mrs. Donnie Jennings, age 100 of Nocona passed away on December 11, 2000 at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Jennings was born on September 13, 1900 in Clinton, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held on December 12, 2000 at 10:00 AM at Molsbee Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Craig Cagle officiating.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Juvine Foster and Komas Hawkins, both of Nocona; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
J. D. Allen
J. D. Allen of Gainesville, TX passed away on December 5, 2000 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Allen was born in Bowie, Texas. He went to work for Westinghouse Electric Division in Tulsa, OK. He was transferred to Dallas where he retired with 35 years of service. He was an active member of the Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Allen were held on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at Restland Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ed Moore and Rev. Charles Ivey officiating. Interment was held in Gospel Section of Restland Memorial Park.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Emma Lue Allen; one son, Ricky W. Allen, Gainesville, TX; one daughter, Brenda Lawson, Gainesville, TX; one sister, Delores Ellis, Garland, TX; three step-children, Brian W. Edens, Carrolton, TX, Karen Bizzell, Bracketville, TX, and Deborah Schick, McKinney, TX; three half-sisters, Patsy McEnroe, Mary Godfrey, both of Bowie, Texas, and Jan Frost, O’Brien, TX; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many relatives and a host of wonderful friends.

Mary Lee Wells, age 64, of Arlington, TX passed away November 17, 2003 at the Medical Center of Arlington in Arlington, TX.
Mrs. Wells was born May 6, 1936 in Bowie, TX to Helia Irene McCracken and Lester Weldon Long.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wells were held Friday, November 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Scott-Morris Chapel.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Larry Wells, Arlington, TX; her children, Weldon and Donna Williamson, Irving, TX, Joel Wells, Rockwell, TX, Steve Wells, Aberdeen, WA, Jim Wells, Temecula, CA, Janine Wells, Austin, TX and Jay Chase, Houston, TX; one sister, Martha Johnson, Arlington, TX; fourteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helia and Lester Long; and by her first husband, Jinks Williamson.
Aileen Pigg
Aileen Pigg, age 84, of Mesquite, TX passed away November 18, 2003 in the Mesquite Community Hospital in Mesquite, TX.
Mrs Pigg was born January 29, 1919 in Bowie, TX to Oliver and Alice McNatt. She was a seamstress and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bowie, TX. She grew up in Bowie and attended Bowie public schools.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pigg were held Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fry Funeral Home Chapel in Bowie, TX with Rev. Darius McKay officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Richard A. Pigg, Mesquite, TX; two grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Green, Bowie, TX; one brother, Olus McNatt, Fort Worth, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Alice McNatt; two sisters, Gertrude Manning and Annie Weinneinger; two brothers, Cecil and Jack McNatt.
Barney Joe Smith
Barney Joe Smith, age 73, of Bowie, TX passed away November 15, 2003 at the Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Smith was born March 1, 1930 in Floyd, NM. He married Janice Ann Summers on May 25, 1985 in Bowie, TX. He was a member of the Church of Christ faith. He grew up in Bowie and attended Bowie public schools were he played football. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and after his discharge was a rodeo bull rider and worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company in Aztec, NM. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Clovis, NM and then worked for Condor Drilling Company in Bridgeport, TX until his retirement in 1998. He was canteen manager at the VFW from 1990 until 1993 and was overseer at the Boy Scout Ranch for 5 years.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Side Baptist Church in Bowie, TX with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. Interment was at Briar Creek Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, William Ray “Billy” Smith, Cave Creek, AZ; one daughter, Sheryl N. Webb, Bowie, TX; four step children; Lena Tucker, Bowie, TX, Connie Scott, Bowie, TX; Pam Steele, Grand Prairie, TX and Jimmy Conover, Mineral Wells, TX; five grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one brother, James Smith, Clovis, NM; three sisters, Nancy Fry, Sioux Falls, SD, Lois Barnard, Waco, TX and Zelda Case, Bowie, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Ann Summers Smith on September 7, 2003; and one son, Donnie Joe Smith in 1978.
Pallbearers included: Clyde Henson, James Henry, Norman Ingram, Richard Gardner, Dalton Hutson and William Pierce. Honorary pallbearers include: Members of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789.

Cora Elaine Curtis, age 62, of Truth or Consequences, NM passed away November 18, 2003 in Las Cruces, NM.
Mrs. Curtis was born September 7, 1941 in Denison, TX. She was a restaurant manager and a member of the Baptist faith. She was a resident of Bowie for twelve years before moving to Truth or Consequences, NM eleven years ago.
Graveside services for Mrs. Curtis were held Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Tucker officiating. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three sons, Thomas Ziegler and John Curtis II, both of Truth or
Consequences, NM, and David Curtis, Bowie, TX; two daughters, Rhonda Spurlock and Michelle Moore, both of Bowie, TX; seven grandchildren; two brothers, David Dixon, San Diego, CA, and Ricky Dixon, Alvarado, TX; three sisters, Betty Miller, Follansbee, WV, Gladys Bourge, Las Cruces, NM and Renee McCaffrey, Fort Worth, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Thomas, age 81, of Nocona, TX passed away November 24, 2003 in Nocona, TX.
Mrs. Thomas was born January 10, 1922 in Quitman, TX to Lela Green and Marvin Morton. She married M.A. (Dick) Thomas on March 1, 1945 in Tyler, TX. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ Church in Nocona, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas were held Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Church of Christ with Minister Dale Scott officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the directions of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Danny Thomas, Nocona, TX; one daughter, Cyndie Ulbig, Bowie, TX; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Ann Jones, Nocona, TX, Patsy Howle, Norman, OK, Jo Coleman, Nocona, TX and Alice Lindley, Mineola, TX; one brother, Paul Horton, Mineola, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.A. (Dick) Thomas on April 9, 2001; one sister, Bert Yost; and five brothers, Jesse, Bobby, Roy, Bennie and Pete Horton.
