Homer Isom Jackson
Homer Isom Jackson, 81, passed away Thursday, Novemer 4, 2004 in Bowie, TX.
He was born in the community of Denver on December 21, 1922 to Barney and Grace Morris Jackson. He married Maxine Greenwood on October 27, 1962 and they had two sons before her death in March of 1988. He married Verna Mae Taylor on July 25, 1998 in Sunset, TX. Mr. Jackson served in the United States Army as First Class Sergeant in World War II from 1943 through 1945 fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and the Invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. He served in the 146 Combat Engineer Battalion. He was decorated with the Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead and the Purple Heart. He continued his service in the Army National Guard for the next eighteen years until his retirement.
He served as a County Commissioner of Montague County and his passion was farming and ranching. He was a member of Jean’s Bible Class in Nocona and he accepted the Lord as his Savior as a child in the community of Denver.
Funeral services were Sunday, November 7, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Bowie with Larry Kennedy, Charles Taylor and Tommy Lamascus officiating. White Family Funeral Home directed the service.
Burial followed at the Salona Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Dunn, Doug Long, Mike Sanders, Ricky Ogle, Coach Raymond Clement, Ricky Byas and Ricky Alexander.
Honorary bearers were members of Jean’s Mens Bible Class of Nocona, TX.
Survivors include: his wife of six years, Verna Mae Jackson; two sons, Lyete Jackson and his wife, Lisa of Bowie; Barney Jackson and his wife, Nancy of Bowie; six grandchildren, Breann, Tod, Kayla, Kevin, Emily and Erin; one brother, Cecil Jackson and his wife, Cecilia of Henrietta, TX; one sister, Glenna Green and her husband, Bill of Fairfield, TX; uncle JD Williams and his wife, Billie of Bowie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Maxine Greenwood Jackson
Memorials may be made to the Salona or Denver Cemetery Associations.

C.S. (Caddy) McCall
C.S. (Caddy) McCall, age 89, of Nocona, TX passed away November 1, 2004 in a nursing home in Carrollton, TX.
Mr. McCall was born June 11, 1915 in Nocona, TX to Cadmun and Nell McGillicuddy McCall. He married Pauline Davis Wharran on July 9, 1993 in Henrietta, TX. He was a banker at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Nocona, TX and a longtime rancher in Nocona, TX. He was a member of the St Joseph’s Catholic Church and served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
Funeral services for Mr. McCall were held Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at the St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nocona, TX with Father John Stasiowski officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Pauline McCall; his children, Caddy Stephen McCall, Carrollton, TX; Mark McCall, Nocona, TX; John T. McCall, Coppell, TX and Holly McCall, Austin, TX; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Terrell McCall on December 22, 1974 and Barbara Ann Smith Major McCall on June 1, 1991.
Active Bearers included: Mike Storey, Bruce Major, Robbie Storey, Mark Storey, Mark Linn, Robert Fenoglio, Phil Staley and Chris Bybee. Honorary Bearers included: Raymond Salmon, Condell Lowrie, Bruce Bybee and Ronnie Davis.
Memorials may be made to the St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 109 Dennison, Nocona, TX, 76255, Nocona Library, 101 Cooke St. Nocona, TX or Tails and Trails Museum, 210 Clay Street, Nocona TX, 76255.

Tommy Edward Smith
Tommy Edward Smith, was born on August 2, 1035, in a three room house in Olney, TX and passed away on November 7, 2004 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bea, his sister Carol Ann Smith MacDonald and five children; Terry Ann Rogers, Jackie Len Smith and Tommy Joe Smith, Kimberly K.Murphy Selzer and Brett Thomas Murphy. In addition, he has ten grandchildren; Summer Myles, Beau Myles, Jake Smith, Lindsey Smith, Zoe Smith, Yiera Smith, Leiza Smith, Tovah Smith, Abby Selzer, Mason Murphy and two great grandchildren. He leaves behind many close friends. His parents, Opal Uselton Smith and Joseph LeRoy (Roy) Smith are both deceased.
Tommy moved to Bowie, TX in 1942 where in high school he excelled in football, lettered four years, was named an all district player three years, and All-State his senior year. He won a scholarship to North Texas State where he lettered every year and was named to the Dallas Morning News all Texas team.
After graduation from North Texas, he became a coach at Nocona, TX and Denton, TX High School. He was an Administrator at Denton Junior High. He was employed by El Centro College n 1967, and in 1970, he became Physical Education Chair and Athletic Director at Mountain View College where he remained until his retirement in 1995. Tommy believed strongly in education and received three degrees, a Bachelor of Science, a Mastser’s of Education and a Doctorate in Education plus 36 hours of post doctoral work. His many years in education gave him the opportunity that few have. His dream was to always lead by example and have a positive impact on the lives of his students. Tommy Smith touched many lives. Tommy was a Master Mason and a member of the Stanfield Lodge in Denton, TX.
Tommy leaves us this message: Isn't it a blessing that a man can be so completely happy and satisfied for thirty plus years of his life? And cancer cannot take away my faith, my love for my family, my sense of humor. Only I can give them away.”
Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 6:15 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.
Pallbearers included: David Gregory, Mike Sink, Jim Knowles, Jim Piequet, Jake Bridgewater, Tom Szalay. Honorary pallbearers: Curtis Lindey and Don Hickman.

Babe Weaver Anderson
Mr. Anderson, 81, of Bowie, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2004 surrounded by family and friends in Ball, LA, after a lengthy illness. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a construction worker.
Services for Babe Weaver Anderson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 2, 2004 in the chapel of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home, Bowie, TX with Reverend Jackie Eastwood officiating. Burial will follow in Briar Creek Cemetery, Bowie, Texas, under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
His wife, Theo Anna Bell Anderson, one sister, Margaret Hanson, and one brother, Ed Anderson, precede him in death.
Those left behind to celebrate his life include his three children, Ronnie E. Anderson, Connie Y. Tate, and Judy D. Brown; one sister, Doris Sharon, seven grandchildren, Briana McKinney, Byron Tate, Joseph Tate, Regina Tate, Christopher Brown, Bradley Brown and Zachary Anderson; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Sylvia Ernestine Thompson Ray
Sylvia Ernestine Thompson Ray, 89, of Bowie, TX, passed away Friday, November 5, 2004 in Bowie.
She was born September 22, 1915 in Sunset, TX. On September 21, 1946 she married Russell R. Ray in Wichita Falls, TX. He died August 30, 1990. During WWII she worked as a Certified Dental Assistant at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. Later in Odessa, TX, she worked for two optometrists as an assistant and secretary. She retired and moved to Bowie in November, 1984. She was a faithful church member and a dependable employee. These two are where she put her time and energy. With her first paycheck, she paid 10% to the church and put 10% in savings and this she continued throughout her life. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include: four sisters, Berniece Oliver, Dorothy Woolf, Maggie Killen and her husband, Lynford, all of Bowie, TX and Gracie McNatt and her husband, Paul of Graham, TX; one brother, James (Tommy) Thompson of Wichita Falls, TX; two sister-in-laws, Betty Thompson of Austin, TX and Emma Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 6, at 3:30 p.m. in the Drawing Room of the White Family Funeral Home with Rev. Sara Hardaway officiating, under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Salona Cemetery.

Leona Alice Winchell Hamilton
Leona Alice Winchell Hamilton, 89, of Muenster, TX, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004 in Muenster.
She was born June 10, 1915 in Bristow, OK to Wallace and Ethel Richardson Winchell. She was raised in Oklahoma and lived in Davenport, OK for some time before moving to Muenster. On October 19, 1933 she married John Thomas Hamilton in Moodys, OK and the couple had three daughters. They moved to Muenster in 1957, where she had since resided. John preceded her in death on March 6, 1974. Leona was baptized in the Baptist faith, but later in life she attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was known to her family as “Gang-Gang” and loved and cared for her family and friends. Her talents included sewing, hand embroidery, painting and drawing.
Survivors include: three daughters, Clara Ann and husband Jerry Walker of Kindrick, OK, Patsy Jayne Walterscheid, and Tommy Sue and husband Pat Hess, of Muenster; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Elmer Winchell and two sisters, Louise Winchell Collier and Clara Winchell Arter.
A Rosary service was on Tuesday, November 30, 2004. The funeral service was on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Muenster.
Pallbearers were: Carla Klement, Renate Pagel, Staci Bartel, Rodney Hess, Stuart Hess, Darren Walterscheid, Tony Walker and John Walker.

Susan Joan Rowe
Susan Joan Rowe, age 55, of Nocona, TX passed away November 21, 2004 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Rowe was born March 11, 1949 in Spanish Fort, TX to Cecil and Dorothy Schrock Fortner.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rowe were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Valley View Baptist Church . Interment was at the Spanish Fort Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Dru Rowe, Washington, and one daughter, Autumn Rowe, Nocona, TX; one grandchild, Cyara Sage Rowe, Washington; one brother, Jamie Fortner, Seattle, WA; one sister, Dianne McChesney, Nocona, TX; aunt and uncle, S.D. Jr. & Helen Schrock, Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
