Harold B. Prather
Harold B. Prather, 93, of Forestburg, TX passed away December 24, 2004 in Gainesville, TX.
Funeral services Mr. Prather were on Monday, December 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Forestburg Church of Christ with C.E. Cole and Loyd Morris officiating. Burial followed in Rosston Cemetery, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo, TX.
He was born September 11, 1911 in Beckham County, OK to Lester and Elsie Dennis Prather. On April 19, 1937 he married Susie Ann Sutton in Bowie, TX. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1992. He later married Lula Mae (DeGraffenreid) Sessums on May 16, 1993 in Forestburg. She also preceded him in death on February 18, 1999. He was a strong, active member of the Forestburg Church of Christ. He led singing at the church for a number of years. He was a retired farmer, an had worked for a natural gas company.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Nephews Jerry McCarty of Chickasha, OK and Bobby Presley of Forestburg, TX were Harold’s nephews and personal caretakers.
In addition to his wifes, Mr. Prather was preceded in death by a very special granddaughter, Paula Williams.
Effie Odessa Jones
Effie Odessa Jones, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in Bowie.
Funeral services were Sunday, December 26 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Lamberson officiating under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Brushy Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department.
Effie was born January 22, 1917 in Decatur, TX to Benjamin Franklin and Nancy Holloway Dyer. She was a homemaker and loved playing with her grandchildren. She enjoyed puzzles, visiting with friends and gospel music. Effie appreciated riding around looking at the countryside.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Nancy Dyer; two husbands, Herbert Studebaker and H.L. Lew Jones; four brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by: her son, Gary Studebaker and wife Charlene of Bowie; daughter, Jean Seigler and husband Doyle of Bowie; step-daughter, Ann Pessoney and husband Mike of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Mike Studebaker and wife Jennifer of Bowie; Misty Robertson and husband Jay of Bowie; Kara Studebaker Brinkley and husband Ryan of Gainesville; and Amanda Studebaker of Bowie; five step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren with one expecting; seven step-great grandchildren; sister Betty Whetsell of Sunset; and brother, Keelan Tucknies and wife Loreen of Sunset.
Nathan James Gleason
Nathan James Gleason, 58, of Rowlett, TX passed away February 14, 2004 at the Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett, TX.
Mr. Gleason was born January 22, 1946 in Lufkin, TX to Joyce Montgomery and Johnny Millard Gleason. He served in the United States Army from 1967 - 1969 as a Medic. He considered it an honor. He was a member of the Centeral Baptist Church of Crandall, TX. He worked as a mechanic and retired from First Company of Dallas. He graduated from Crandall High in 1964 and attended the University of Texas in Arlington.
Services for Mr. Gleason were held Monday, February 16th, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Services were under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Gary Freimuth, Forney, TX; his mother, Joyce Gleason, Saint Jo, TX; two sisters, Roselyn Ware, Lewisville, TX and Lisa Rolison, Crandall, TX; two brothers, John Gleason, Saint Jo, TX and Jerry Gleason, Fort Belknap, TX; his beloved companion, May Glenn, Rowlett, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Allie Stephens
Allie Stephens, age 92, of Bowie, TX passed away February 8, 2004 at her residence in Bowie, TX.
Mrs. Stephens was born in Brownwood, TX March 23, 1911. She was a homemaker.
Graveside services were held Sunday, February 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with Stan Baker officiating, under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Edith Baker, Chico, TX; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; twenty great great grandchildren; three great great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Beulah Mae Duck
Beulah Mae Duck, age 96 of Nocona, TX passed away February 16, 2004 at the Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Duck was born March 27, 1907 to Ethel Artemis Plumlee and William Amos Morgan. She was married to William Herman Duck for forty-eight years. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Quilting Club, both in Willow, OK. She was also a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Nocona, TX.
Funeral services for Mrs. Duck were held Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Scott-Morris Funeral Chapel with Joe Don Elam, Rev. Charles Wylie and Rev. Jeff Cramer officiating. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her children, Dorothy Newland, Nocona, TX, William Herman “Buster” Duck, Jr., Nocona, TX and Della Elam, Levelland, TX; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers included: her grandsons, Jerry Newland, Terry Newland, Richard Buck, Joe Don Elam, David Duck and Patrick Duck.
Nickolas Matthew Ryan Hinshaw
Nickolas Matthew Ryan Hinshaw, infant, of Gainesville, TX passed away February 13, 2004 at the Gainesville Memorial Hospital.
Nickolas Matthew Ryan Hinshaw was born February 13, 2004 to April Dawn Hinshaw.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nocona Cemetery with Great Uncle Garry Davis officiating. Services were under the direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his mother, April Hinshaw, Gainesville, TX; one brother, Tristin Hinshaw, Gainesville, TX; grandparents, Scharlene Hinshaw, and Carl and Katrina Hinshaw; great grandparents, Ruth Davis, and Harlan and Lee Hinshaw; one aunt, Jessica Caraway; and one uncle, Matt Caraway.
Edrie L. Liggett
Edrie L. Liggett, age 92 of Bowie, TX passed away February 12, 2004 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Liggett was born September 17, 1911 to H.D. and Dessie Sears Henson. She graduated Leona High School and married R. E. Liggett in October of 1932 in Waurika, OK. She was a member of First Baptist Church and belonged to the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Graveside services for Mrs. Liggett were held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. with Shannon Eaton officiating, under the direction of White Family Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son Robert Liggett and his wife, Margaret, Bowie, TX; four grandchildren and several great-grand children.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bowie.
Caleb Dale McCann
Caleb Dale McCann, 5 months, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2004 in Bowie, Texas.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 in the Drawing Room of White Family Funeral Home.
Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family received friends from 5 ‘til 7 p.m. Monday, March 29 at the White Family Funeral Home.
Caleb Dale McCann was born October 15, 2003 in Nocona, Texas. He was a beautiful blue eyed baby boy who was dearly loved by all who knew him. His smile and laughter will be greatly missed.
When God sends forth a tiny soul to learn the ways of earth, a mother’s love is waiting here, we call this wonder birth.
When God calls home a little soul and stills a fleeting breath, a father’s love is waiting there, this too is birth, not death.
He is survived by his parents: Nicole Lynn McCann and Cody Dale Read of Bowie, TX; grandparents Shirley Drager and Thomas Pierce of Bowie, TX, Ronald McCann of Michigan, Beverly and Joe Bob Jones of Bowie, TX, Ronald Read of Nocona, TX; great grandparents, Nell Jones and Beth Pierce, Bowie, TX; aunt Heather Jones; and two uncles, Mathew Lleverino and Rusty Read, of Bowie.
