Louise McNabb
Louise McNabb, 84, of Edgewood passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Grand Saline.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Herschel LyBrand Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Edgewood with the Revs. David Tomme and Jim Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McNabb was born July 13, 1916 in Drane, the daughter of the late Mary Ethel Atkinson McDonald and John McDonald. She was valedictorian of Frost High School. She later attended North Texas State Teachers College in Denton. She then taught school in Chatfield and Bryan in Navarro County. She married Jim McNabb June 15, 1938 at Ross Avenue Baptist Church. In 1973, she and her husband moved to Edgewood from Dallas to make their home. She was very dedicated to teaching the young children when she was a member of East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Edgewood where she taught the young children.
She is survived by her husband, Jim McNabb of Edgewood; son, Jim Houston McNabb and wife Nancy Quesada of Austin; daughter, Carolyn Smith and husband Conley of Denver, Colo.; brother, Hugh McDonald of Houston; five grandchildren, Shannon and Wade, Matthew, Andrew and Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob.

James "Hootie' Griffin
James "Hootie' Griffin, 76, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson and the Rev. Darren Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Younger Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Putman, William Putman, Jerry Putman, Bobby Griffin, Larry Griffin and James M. Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Sykes, Orville Crawford, Jimmy "Doc' Sumner, Bill Milligan, Eugene Barry, Norvil Coker, Phil Smith and Richard Rosales.
Mr. Griffin always made friends and kept them for a lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Genelle Griffin of Corsicana; sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Glenda Griffin of College Station and Rober Tate of Ft. Worth; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tom Goodin of Navarro, Cathy and Loyd Selman Jr. of Corsicana, Pam and Jerry Reding of Willis, and Jan and Mark Perkins of Weatherford; six grandchildren, Dustin Griffin of Dallas, Ashley Griffin of College Station, Bryan Selman of Corsicana, Aaron Goodin of Navarro and Abbott and Windy Chrabasz of Arlington; and three great-grandchildren.

Will "Mack' Crawford
Will "Mack" Crawford, 73, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at his residence.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Westhill Church of Christ with Ferman Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blooming Grove.
Pallbearers will be Justin Mahoney, Hank Rosenthal, Neal Crawford, Lynn Berry, Crawford Tatum and Kenneth Logan. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick James, Tom Knox, Gerry Harris, Ron Miller and Terry Miller.
Mr. Crawford was born June 22, 1927 in Blooming Grove and was raised there. He served in the U.S. Navy prior to graduating from Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. He married Ann Louise McCulloch in 1954, after each were designated as "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities."
He worked as news editor of the LaMarque Times until returning to Navarro County in 1956, where he became editor of the Frost Enterprise. He was given the North and East Texas Press Association Community Service Award.
Mr. Crawford purchased a general insurance agency in Blooming Grove in 1960, but continued to live in Frost. He served as president of the Frost Civitan Club, was on the Frost City Council, and was instrumental in the construction of Joe Parum Jr. Memorial field for youth and high school baseball. He was an honorary member of the Frost chapter of FFA.
He joined the Navarro County Tax Office in 1970 as its first field deputy. In 1982, he was employed by the Navarro Appraisal District where duties included oversight of all appraisal review board hearings until his 1988 retirement.
After his family moved to Corsicana in 1978, Mr. Crawford served as a deacon of Westhill Church of Christ. He was secretary and bulletin editor of the Corsicana Lions Club. He was named outstanding Lion of 1991, received the 1990-1991 secretary award, and given a life membership to the Texas Lions Camp.
He was a periodic community columnist for the Corsicana Daily Sun beginning in 1988. He also served on the Corsicana State Home Community Advisory council, and as a volunteer writer for the CSH treatment program, the CSH staff, school and student activities.
His more than 50 feature articles brought him the Texas Department of Aging Outstanding Volunteer Award, the Texas Youth Commission Special Volunteer Award, a State of Texas Senate Commendation and the Texas Corrections Association Star Award.
In 1990, both he and Mrs. Crawford received the Navarro College Bulldog Backer co-award. One year later, he received the Navarro County Senior Citizen Award. In 1999, he was named Blooming Grove High School Ex-Student Association Outstanding Ex-Student.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Crawford; parents, Bill and Thelma Crawford; and brother, Jimmy Crawford.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Mahoney of Corsicana; sons, Willie Crawford and Neal Crawford, both of Corsicana; grandchildren, Kammi and Kevin Calvery, Justin Mahoney, Amber Crawford and Ricki Crawford; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Ralph Tatum of Corsicana; sister-in-law and husband, Martha and Melvin Carpenter of Huntsville; brother-in-law, Bill McCullogh of Texas City; nephew, Crawford Tatum; goddaughter, Lynn Rosenthal Hallford of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Ann Crawford Scholarship Fund, in care of Joe Brooks, 18176 County Road NW3360, Frost, Texas 76641; Westhill Church of Christ Building Fund, 3400 W. State Highway 22, Corsicana, Texas 75110; or to the Navarro County War Memorial, in care of the Navarro County Auditor's Office, 300 W. Third Ave., Suite 10, Corsicana, Texas 75110.

Martha Louise Eppler
Martha Louise Eppler, 77, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at her residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Teri Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Eppler, Gary Eppler, Jeffery Eppler, Lee Eppler, Wicky Eppler, Mike Eppler and Donnie White.
Mrs. Eppler was born March 17, 1924 in Davis, Okla. to William and Edna Eddington. She worked for many years in the cafeteria for the Corsicana Independent School District.
Mrs. Eppler is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Alton and Martha Eppler of Baytown and Travis Glen and Kathaleen Eppler of Missouri City; grandchildren, Greg and Teresa Eppler of Baytown and Gary and Carla Eppler, all of Baytown, and Jeffery Eppler and Rebecca Eppler, both of Missouri City; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Eppler, Andrew Eppler and Celeste Eppler; brother, Sam Eddington and wife Iva of Bakersfield, Calif. and sister, Betty Self of Nacogdoches.

Herschell Baker
Herschell Baker, 78, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 in Corsicana.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Dr. Gary W. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was a lifelong resident of Navarro County. He was born in Purdon on Nov. 19, 1922. He volunteerted for the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Mr. Baker served as a Norton bomb site mechanic in England and France. During the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, Mr. Baker was rushed to the front lines where he served as an infantryman until the end of the war. After the war, he re-enlisted in the Army and served his country with distinction for 30 years obtaining the rank of first sergeant in the Army Engineers. First Sgt. Baker was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, Korean War Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Wounded twice in battle, First Sgt. Baker was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Medal for valor. A devoted father and husband, Herschell and his wife Yoko were married at the American Embassy in Tokyo in 1956 and had a wonderful marriage of 46 years. He fought valiantly for his life, but in the end passed away dignity and grace.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Rutherford; son, Steven J. Baker; and sister, Alice Niedringhaus.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Yoko Baker of Corsicana; sons, Clovis of Frost and Michael of Corsicana; daughter, Deborah of Corsicana; brothers, Otto Baker of Corsicana, David Rutherford of Corsicana, John Rutherford of Kerens and James Rutherford of Dallas; sisters, Joyce Disotell of Athens and Effie Juanity Glasgow of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jason, Paula, Kyna, Colton and Erica; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Crystal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Moreta E. Slaughter
Moreta E. Slaughter, 92, of Corsicana passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 4 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger officiating. Interment will follow at Younger Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Charles Peden, Hubert Slaughter and Carl York. Honorary pallbearer will be C.E. Thomas.
Mrs. Slaughter was born Jan. 21, 1909 in Purdon to John Melton and Carrie Mae Thomas. She worked for many years at Tex-Sun Glove Company as a sewing machine operator.
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her husband, G.A. Slaughter of Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Earlene Slaughter of Gun Barrel City; granddaughters, Donna Green and George of Corsicana, Teresa and Nick Hargrave of Silsbee; grandson, Bruce and Shannon Slaughter of Haughton, La.; great-grandchildren, Erika and Bryan Franklin and April Welch, all of Corsicana, Taylor Hargrave and Coby Hargrave, both of Silsbee, and Hannah Slaughter and Ross Slaughter of Haughton, La.

Kacy Lynn Robertson
Kacy Lynn Robertson, infant, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Lake Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating.
She was born March 27, 2001 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Survivors include her parents, Mike and Crystal Robertson of Fairfield; sister, Brooke Robertson of Fairfield; and grandparents, C.M. Robertson of Tehuacana, Cathy Curry of Teague and William and Audry Webb of Kirvin.

Maggie Lean Tarver
Maggie Lean Tarver, 91, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ross and Johnson Mortuary.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Temple AME Church, 402 E. 14th Ave., with the Rev. Cynthia Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ray Yeldell, Michael Williams, James Martin and Labron Walker.
She was born April 22, 1909 in Oakwood.
She is survived by her daughters, Louise Sansell of Corsicana and Joyce Yeldell and husband Ray of Mexia; grandchildren, Michael Williams and wife Regina of Lancaster, Barbara j. Martin and husband James of Chicago, Ill. and Patricia A. Diatta and husband Allsone of Pamona, N.Y.; and six great-grandchildren.
