Oscar Rex Whiteside
Dr. Oscar Rex Whiteside, 72, of Corsicana passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Fitch Jr., Clint Pyron, Derrick Whiteside, Jimmy Starling, Jack Whiteside, Chuck Whiteside, Ken Whiteside and Kurt Whiteside.
Dr. Whiteside was born Oct. 23, 1928 in Grapevine, and was a graduate of Grapevine High School. He served his country in two different uniforms, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, during the Korean conflict. He received his bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University, a master of science degree from Texas Christian University and a doctor of education degree from Baylor University. In 1961, he joined the newly formed Hill Junior College in Hillsboro where he served as registrar and dean. In 1975, he accepted a position as dean of instructional services at Victoria College in Victoria. He had 34 years of experience in college teaching and administration. He retired in 1990 and moved to Corsicana. He served as interim dean at both the Mexia and Waxahachie campuses of Navarro College. He was a deacon and men's Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Corsicana, and was a member of the Navarro County Water Board and Navarro College presidential search committee.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Boyer Whiteside of Corsicana, whom he married in 1952; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cheryl Whiteside of Grayslake, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and John Fitch of Morgantown, W.V. and Sherri and Troy Pyron of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Whiteside of Kilgore and Mr. and Mrs. Darwin L. Whiteside of Royse City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara Buck Hodge
Clara Buck Hodge, 94, formerly of Corsicana, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Brentwood Place Two Nursing Home in Dallas.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Frederick, pastor of Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Dallas, officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leon Buck, Forrest Scarborough, Lee Glover, Sonny Buck and Matt Tapp.
Mrs. Hodge was born Jan. 26, 1907 in Alabama City, Ala. to Florence Holland Buck and Carter Tubb Buck. She grew up in Corsicana and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Corsicana. She was a longtime resident of Mesquite and a member of Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She graduated from Texas Woman's University. She was a social worker and spent many years as a case worker for The Lighthouse for the Blind in Dallas in addition to working at other children's homes in Dallas and Corsicana. Her legacy was one of service and love for her Lord and his flock. She was a a joy and inspiration to all. She will be missed.
Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her children Emily, Janet and Joe, all in 1945; her beloved husband, Clarence Hodge in 1965; brothers, Roy and Raymond Buck; and sisters, Ruth Tirado and Ruby Garrett.
She is survived by sister, Elora Buck Alderman of Mesquite; brother, Leon Buck of Midland; nieces, Katy Scarborough of Mesquite, JaNa Handley of Midland, Grace Jones of Boerne and Doris Liggett of Pinole, Calif.; nephews, Sonny Buck of Midland, James Glasgow of Shreveport, and Carter and John Lonon of Dallas; and several great-nieces and great-nephews including Lee Glover of Mesquite.

Myrtle Velma Riles Lewis, 96, of Corsicana, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Independent Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lacey officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Aubrey Washington Jr., Joseph Washington, J.D. Washington, Keith Washington, Jerry Riles, Frederick Riles and George Riles.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of the First Independent Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lewis was born Nov. 2, 1905 in Cheneyboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Lewis; parents; eight sisters and brothers.
She is survived by her son, Wriley L. and Elizadia Lewis of Inglewood, Calif.; granddaughters, Rhode Michaelle Lewis Tillery and husband Wesley of Hawthorne, Calif., and Rhonda Danielle Lewis of Los Angeles, Calif; great grandchildren, Kira, Kyla, Keila and Rhamani; brother, Claude Riles Sr.; sisters-in-law, Jewel Riles, Alice Degraffenreid and Inez Johnson Lewis, all of Corsicana; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Tossie Whitehead, 101, of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 in Corsicana.

Mrs. Whitehead was born Oct. 8, 1900 in Navarro County. She was a private sitter and a member of That Church.
She was preceded in death by husbands, E.G. Grimmett, Wallace McGuyer and Robert L. Whitehead; sons, Thomas M. "Buddie" Grimmett and W.C. Grimmett and great grandson, Jimmy Plummer.
She is survived by daughter and husband, Allie and S.C. Dodson; daughter, Bernice Ivie and niece Irena Orler, all of Corsicana.

Deloris Jessica Barajas, 27, of Corsicana, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 in Corsicana.

She was born July 29, 1974 in Dallas.

Katherine Marie Standard Kidd
Katherine Marie Standard Kidd, born September 9, 1923. She went to be with the Lord April 6, 2003. She is survived by her sons Gary R. Standard, Robert A. Standard, Daniel P. Standard, brother Floyd D. Hawkins, sister Bettye Ann Gilbert, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son David Glen Standard and sister Shirley Beasley. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Her faith in God was recognized by all who met her. Her dedication to her family was admired. Her small steps in life were huge strides of a hero to those around her.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Vivian Duke Watson
Vivian Duke Watson, 67, of Malone passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, at a Hillsboro hospital.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cottonwood Cemetery near Hubbard with the Rev. Jason Coker officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Mrs. Watson was born April 7, 1935, in the Mountain Springs community in Hill County. She was a graduate of Bynum High School and had lived in Malone for 25 years. She had owned and operated an air conditioning business with her husband and also worked as a nutritionist at the Hubbard hospital. She was a member of the Military Wives Auxiliary and loved sewing, crocheting and jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Watson on Nov. 14, 2002; great-grandson, Jayson Moore in 1996; and grandson, Dakota Shane Woods in 2000.
Survivors include her daughters, Kitty Elaine Hollifield and husband Harold "Toad" of Dawson, Teresa Lenart of Bellmead, and Donnice Sorrell and husband Dickie of Malone; brother, Thomas Jefferson Duke Jr. of West; sister, Odessa Schronk and husband Ralph of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren including two grandsons in the U.S. Marine Corps, James Ray Piel serving in Iraq and Jeffrey Dean Foss serving as an advanced artillery trainer at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren.
