Sammie Strain Armstrong
Sammie Strain Armstrong, 85, of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 in Dallas.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Jimmy Finley officiating. Burial will follow at Frost Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Josh Armstrong, Mike Armstrong, Tony Armstrong, Tom Blackmon, Jabe Herring and Gary Pace.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Feb. 28, 1916 in Frost. She was the wife of Arnold A. Armstrong Sr. and the daughter of the late A.H. and Allie Strain of Frost. She attended Trinity University and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Corsicana.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Arnold A. Armstrong of Corsicana; sons, Strain and Nancy Armstrong of Orange and Arnold and Maria Armstrong Jr. of Houston; daughter and husband, Debra and Tommy Herring of Alvin; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Virgie Vandergriff Busby
Virgie Vandergriff Busby, 93, of Tyler, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 in Tyler.
Private services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home with family members officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Busby was born Dec. 30, 1907 in Tehuacana. She was a housewife and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Busby; sisters, Osa Vera Cox, Minnie Grizzle, Della Scoggins and brothers, Ed Vandergriff, George Vandergriff and Paul Vandergriff.
She is survived by nephew, Jerry D. and Judy Cox of Kilgore; nieces, Elouise Faires of Dallas, Claudette and Cassity Jones of Longview, Norma Kay and L.G. Callaway of Tecumseh, Mo., Doris and Brian Mumford of Richardson, Ferne and Jack Parker of Kilgore, Tommie and Bill Watson of Athens; numerous great great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Eugenia Stewart, 90, of Corsicana, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 in Corsicana.
Services are pending with Corley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart was born April 18, 1911 and was a housewife.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Nell Stewart of Fort Worth; nephew, W. Carl Stewart of Moss Point, Miss.; nieces, Glenell Bashore of Manassas, Va., Martha Basler of Houston, Kay Crawford of Universal City, Doris Stewart Eaton of Mesquite, Lindsey Marshall of Fort Worth, Lee Pardue of Houston, Ann Pitchford of Lolita, Eugenia Senfft of Germany and Katherine Shapira of Midland; three great nieces and two great nephews.

Ella Ruth Jessie, 68, of Corsicana, passed away Oct. 19, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Quiet hour will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church with Bro. George Proctor-Smith, Pastor and the Rev. Vernon Jessie, Eulogist officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Colquitt Yancy, Alex Davis, Tim Redic, Glenn Brewer, Arnes Purdy Jr. and Terry Thomas.
She was born Aug. 3, 1933 in Richland. She was employed by the Medical Arts Clinic and Regal International.
She was preceded in death by her father, Matilda Jessie.
She is survived by children, Jerry Wayne Arnold of Plano, Ricky and Diane Jessie of Fort Worth, Arnes and Doreas Purdy, Mark and Shirrell Jessie, Scott Jessie and Sonja Jessie, all of Corsicana; grandchildren, Arnes Purdy Jr., Maegan Purdy, Catherine Bartee, Chris Bartee, Marchell Jessie, Jalesa Jessie and Matthew Arnold; brother, Freddie Mitchell of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Regina Farrer of St. Louis, Mo.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lolita Kemp, 94, of Kerens passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 in Kerens.

Travis Anderson
Travis Anderson, 76, of the Liberty Hill community in Navarro County passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at his residence.
Friends may call on the family Sunday at the family residence or at Wade Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Liberty Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Wallace officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Haggard, Travis Goforth, Mark Anderson, Brenard Nunnelley, James Berry and Bill Wragge.
Mr. Anderson was born Sept. 7, 1925 in Dawson. He had lived in the Hubbard/Dawson area for the past 13 years after having lived in Irving. He was an elder and member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hubbard. He had worked as a warehouse foreman for Rex Nord. He was an Army veteran and received the Purple Heart for service in the infantry during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona Anderson; daughters, Charlotte and Vernene; sons, Glynn, Danny, Jerry, Stephen, Donald and Ernest; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Oda Mae Shanks
Oda Mae Shanks, 95, of Fairfield passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia.
She will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Capps Memorial Chapel.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin with Brother Terry Skinner officiating.
Mrs. Shanks was born Feb. 22, 1907 near McGregor. She had been a LVN for many years in Fairfield and Waco hospitals. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cleave Thorn and Leroy Shanks of Fairfield.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Lou of California and Ruth Ibendahl of Seagoville; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Ann Thorn of Fairfield and William and Jean Thorn of Waco; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Brown Simpson, 59, of Barry passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Baylor Hospital in Richardson.

Mrs. Simpson was born May 11, 1943 in Purdon to Johnnie Brown and Nellie Patrick Brown. She was a health care administrator.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie George Simpson of Barry; mother, Nellie Brown of Corsicana; son, Sammy Cline of Duncanville; daughter, Tammie Allred of Ennis; grandchildren, Ashley and Cesar Calderilla, Dustin Allred, Lauren Cline and Justin Cline; great-grandchildren, Analisa Calderilla and Joshua Calderilla; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Brown of Corsicana and James and Teresa Brown of Denver, Colo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Barnie B. Laube
Barnie B. Laube, 88, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Tony Neal officiating.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Laube was born Aug. 13, 1913 in Marlin to John Laube and Suzanne White Laube. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a carpenter.
