Leroy Ben Steel, Sr., 70 of Azle, died Friday, September 11, 1998 in a Fort Worth hospital.
Mr. Steel was born January 20, 1928 in Ryan Oklahoma. He married Ruby Mae Burch in 1946.
He was an Azle resident since 1954 and a prior resident of Fort Worth.
He retired from General Dynamics,where he worked in the receiving and shipping department, in 1983. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Steel was preceded in death by his grandson, Danny Carl Steel, Jr. in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Steel of Azle; his daughters Yolanda Sue Fratzke of Azle and Janice L. Dalrymple of Syracuse, Kansas; his sons Leroy Ben Steel, Jr. of Weatherford and Danny Carl Steel, Sr. of Azle.
Survivors also include his sister Nellie Cowden of Lake Worth, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Vonda Lee Smith Turner, 73, of Aledo died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at a Fort Worth hospital after a year-long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Turner was born June 15, 1925 in Nobility, Texas. She was one of eight children.
A devoted wife and mother, she was loved by friends and served others in a variety of ways. She taught in the Children's Department of Sunday School for more than 44 years in two different churches.
Mrs. Turner was an avid seamstress and pieced a handmade quilt for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. She also enjoyed cooking and especially loved to bake sweets.
She worked in retail for a number of years at R.E. Cox adn retired from Sears.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Stuart Turner of Aledo. She is also survived by her daughter Gwen Taylor and spouse of Richardson and sons Weldon D. Turner and spouse of Aledo and Marcus D. Turner and spouse of Willow Park.
Her surivivors also include 6 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Carl Wingo
Carl Wingo 82 a Maintenance Supervisor, died Wednesday, October 25, in Temple.
He lived In Weatherford area most of his life until 1990. He was a WW2 veteran serving In the Navy. He was retired from U.S. Corp of Engineers where he worked In maintenance He was a Methodist.
He is survived by son Kevin and his wife Anne Wingo of Bellville; Woody and his wife Jan Wingo of Weatherford; daughter Diane and her son Gerry Steele of Temple; 12 grandchildren; brothers Clyde Wingo of Dallas, Gene Wingo of Cedar Hill; and sister June Vermillion of Van Alstyne.
Avis Lenahan Bains
Avis Lenahan Bains, 93, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 in Weatherford. Bains was born July 29, 1913 in Leesville, La. To Eugene and Susie Lenahan. She married A.O. Bains in 1943 and they raised two daughters. She has resided in Weatherford since 1972 and was an active member of Calvary Methodist Church. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bains was preceded in death by her husband, her
parents, and her sisters, Etoile France, Ora Wolfe and Miriam Smith.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon Bains Cotter and her husband, Steve and Jeanine Bains Chiasson all of Weatherford; sister, Eugenia Wilson of Houston; grandchildren, Troy Elam, Piper Elam and wife, Alisha, Kimberly Chiasson, Jason Chiasson and Shane Chiasson and wife, Valorie; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 31 at White's Chapel of Memories. There will be visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 30 at White's Funeral Home. Followed by burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Kathleen Laverne Dossey
Kathleen Laverne Dossey, 64, of Millsap, died Monday, October 23, 2006 in a Fort Worth hospice facility.
Born October 16, 1942 in Fox River, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was a resident of Parker County for several years. Dossey was a retired appointment secretary for The Urology Associates of North Texas, and a member of Eden Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Stacey Hobbs and husband Ricky of Brock and Susan Peacock and husband Sean of Arlington; grandchildren Gagelyn, Ricky Jr. and Brandyn Hobbs, Dustin Pena, Britney and Marshall Peacock; four sisters and six brothers all of Canada.
A graveside service was scheduled for Friday, October 27, 2006 at Poe Prairie Cemetery with Rev. Scott Marsh officiating. Visitation will be at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Edith Jordan Borden
Edith Jordan Borden, a life long resident and historian of Parker County, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at her residence.
Borden was a legend for her research of Texas history and her church work at the First Baptist Church in Weatherford. She was known as its oldest continuous member and is recalled kindly by its many members.
"Mrs. Borden researched and wrote many articles for "The Handbook of Texas, " a history of the Lone Star State," said friend and local historian Martha McClung. "In earlier years, she was known as the historian of Parker County. She wrote the histories of Weatherford, Brock, Aledo, Millsap, Peaster, Poolville and Springtown. Additionally, she wrote histories of several smaller county communities, including Veal Station and she wrote the history of First Baptist Church of Weatherford."
"She was a very active church member. She wrote many articles for Texas magazines and she was well known in the state. She was very active and very intelligent," McMclung said.
Longtime friend Martha Middleton said Borden was an inspiration to all.
"She was the epitome of elegance," Middleton said. "She was so gracious and kind. She dressed beautifully; her skin was glorious. She was bright and her eyes just sparkled all the time."
Borden was Parker County's first female attorney, according to her husband of 66 years, Jack Borden. She graduated Cum Laude from Hardin-Simmons University. She received her Master's degree from the University of Texas in 1935 and after a stellar teaching career with the Weatherford Independent School District and Weatherford College, she decided to study law in 1961. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1964 and became the first woman in the county to obtain that honor. Her Master's thesis was published in 2005 and is titled "History of Parker County Texas Prior to 1936."
Borden was a Bible student and a longtime Sunday school teacher at First Baptist that celebrated its 150th anniversary in September. She was active in Baptist mission work and mission study. She was associated with the local chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Association and a world traveler.
She was the daughter of pioneer Parker County residents, E.M. and Annie James Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, E.M. Jordan Jr. and four sisters.
Borden is survived by her husband, Jack Borden of Weatherford; nieces and nephews, Jamie Kyriakos and Edwin M. Jordan III of Albuquerque,NM, Richard W. Jordan and Jeanette Kelly of Denver, Colo., and Charles Spain of Calif. She is also survived by numerous great nieces, nephews including Paige Westhoff of Dallas, and U.S. Navy Lt. John Trenton Westhoff, and his wife, Amy of Pensacola, Fla., whom she called her grandchildren and are the children of nephew, John Westhoff and wife, Sue Ann, of Weatherford.
Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, at First Baptist Church in Weatherford, Palo Pinto Street and Alamo Street. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford.
