Lucy Todd
1917-2004
Lucy Ann Todd died Monday, Jan. 5, in Snyder Oaks Care Center.
Funeral service for Mrs. Todd, 86, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Crestview Baptist Church in Lamesa. The Rev. Pat Githens, pastor of the church and a former Snyder resident, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 26, 1917 in Tipton, Okla., she married Melvin Joe Todd on July 23, 1952 in Austwell, Texas. He died Dec. 11, 1990.
A resident of Snyder Oaks Care Center for about two months, Mrs. Todd was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Lamesa.
She was a homemaker and was also preceded in death by one sister, Zettie Rainy; and two brothers, J.W. Boen and Hubert Boen.
Survivors include a sister, Mildred Turpin of Hagerman, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark Barnett
1966-2004
WICHITA FALLS -- Mark Anthony Barnett, the brother of Michael Barnett of Snyder, died Monday, Jan. 5, in Wichita Falls.
Funeral service for Mr. Barnett, 37, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at 1209 33rd Street in Wichita Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughn Crestview Funeral Home.
Survivors also include his mother, Carmen Valadez of Wichita Falls; a sister, Maria Theresa of Wichita Falls; four other brothers, Felix Valadez of Beaverton, Mich., Joaquin Valadez and Steven Barnett, both of Wichita Falls, and Daniel Barnett of Beaumont.
Leona Carter
1917-2004
HASKELL -- Leona Carter, aunt of Billy Carter of Snyder, died Thursday, Jan. 8, in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Carter, 86, was set for 4 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Haskell. The Rev. Jimmy Griffith and Dr. Troy Culpepper were to officiate. Burial was to follow at Willow Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Born on March 4, 1917, she was an LVN and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include 10 nieces, Deann Carter of Merkel, Jean Medford of Odessa, Mary Sorrells of Abilene, Sue McGee of Haskell, Linda Newbern of Corpus Christi, Ruth Salazar of Big Spring, Gracie Lyon of Houston, Delores Barlow of Waco, Donna Sasseen and Ann Barler, both of San Angelo; and four other nephews, Bobby Sutterfield of Abilene, John White of Farmington, N.M., Truman White of Albuquerque and Curtis Joe Carter of Houston.
Glenda Valentine
1933-2004
Glenda Orie Valentine, a longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at her home.
Funeral service for Mrs. Valentine, 70, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reginald Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Oct. 13, 1933 in Flint, Texas, she married Bill Valentine in 1974 in Lovington, N.M.
A resident of Snyder since 1958, Mrs. Valentine was a certified applicator and was co-owner of Valentine Exterminating and Lawn Care. She was a designer and artist and known for decorating eggs.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Valentine of Snyder; a daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Lowell Bridges of Lubbock; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brent and Billie Hibbitt and Bryan Hibbitt, all of Snyder; four stepsons, Vick Valentine and Mark Valentine of Abilene, Mike Valentine of Fluvanna and Don Valentine of Prosper; two granddaughters, Corie Bridges of Lubbock and Jessie Hibbitt of Snyder.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
James Mallett
1916-2004
James Robert Mallett Jr., a native of Scurry County, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at Best Western Snyder Inn.
Private graveside service for Mr. Mallett, 87, will be held Tuesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, Calif. Local arrangements are under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
A carpenter, he was born April 23, 1916 in Dunn, Mr. Mallett lived in Whitney and was a former resident of Dunn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mallett; and a granddaughter, Chickie Brewer Sinclair.
Survivors include two daughters, Edna Christine Mallett and Virginia Sue Mallett, both of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Doug Walker, Brenda Hess, Betty Walker, Brenda Davidson, John Walker, Sherri Sinclair, Curtis Sinclair and Steven Sinclair; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11great-great-grandchildren.
Beckie Weatherly
1954-2004
COLORADO CITY -- Beckie Weatherly of Colorado City died Saturday, Jan. 10, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Funeral service for Mrs. Weatherly, 49, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Assembly of God with the Rev. Mike Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 31, 1954 in Colorado City, she was a member of the First Assembly of God and taught Bible studies for residents of Kristi Lee Manor.
She married Doyle Weatherly on Feb. 14, 1997. He survives.
Also surviving are her parents, Dewey and Helen Bell of Colorado City; two daughters, Angie Davis and husband Tim of Snyder and Amanda Kiefer of Colorado City; a son, Jason Kiefer of Big Spring; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Chelci and Jeff Beaird of Ira and Audrey and Joe Munoz of Midland; four grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Cailey and Lyndsey Davis, all of Snyder; three step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Casey Beaird of Ira and Madison Munoz of Midland; a sister, Belinda Claxton of Big Spring; two brothers and their wives, Jimmy and Marla Bell of Celina and Jay and Kim Bell of Big Spring.
Iola Bruton
1916-2004
Iola Faye Bruton, the mother of Freddie Lynn Bruton of Snyder, died Sunday, Jan. 11, in Denver City.
Funeral service for Mrs. Bruton, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Assembly of God with the Rev. Ronnie Lunsford, assisted by Kevin Bruton, a grandson, officiating. Burial will follow in Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 1, 1916 in Throckmorton, she married Samuel Bruton Jr. on April 15, 1933 in Seagraves. He died Sept. 12, 1998.
A resident of Denver City since 1941, Mrs. Bruton was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God.
Survivors include four other sons, Doyle Glenn Bruton of Levelland, Edward Loyal Bruton of Dalton, Ga., David Paul Bruton of Denver City and Samuel Bruton of Lometa; a sister, Mary Berryhill of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Bernadine Walker
1932-2003
Bernandine Walker, 71, died Monday, Nov. 3 at her home in Snyder.
Funeral service for Mrs. Walker is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church in Jayton. Burial will follow in the Jayton Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born April 15, 1932 in Kent County, she was the former manager of Rip Griffin’s Truck Stop in Snyder. She had also worked for the Kent County State Bank in Jayton and had owned a convenience store near DeLeon.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, she married H.V. Walker on Dec. 19, 1986.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Vada Johnson; a brother, John Johnson; and a sister, Patsy Ruth.
Survivors include her husband, H.V. Walker of Snyder; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles and Denise Miller of Lewisville and Earl Brownlee of Oregon; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Vick Burk of Rotan; a sister, Mary McAteer of Jayton; a sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Johnson of Jayton; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 5:30-7 p.m. today at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.
