Nonnie Ward
1944-2003
Funeral service for Scurry County native Nonnie Ward, is set for 4 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Hill, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ward, 59, died Thursday, Oct. 2, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.
Born March 30, 1944 in Snyder, she was the daughter of Scurry County ranchers Novis N. and Helen Boren Rodgers.
She was a 1961 graduate of Snyder High School and attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross State University.
She married John Ward on Aug. 30, 1962 in Snyder and they made their home on the ranch 25 miles north of Snyder. Mrs. Ward was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Ward of Snyder; two daughters, Leslie Murphy and husband Mike of Snyder and Lesa Ward of Lubbock; and one grandson, Dylan Murphy of Snyder.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Bee Lockhart
1932-2003
Bee Carroll Lockhart, a native of Scurry County, died Saturday, Oct. 4, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services for Mr. Lockhart, 71, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in Snyder Cemetery with the Rev. Walter McCall, Odyssey Hospice chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Lockhart was born March 11, 1932 in Snyder.
Survivors include a brother, Dee Lockhart of Snyder; three sisters, Beatrice May and Berle Shuler, both of Sweetwater, and Jessie Lockhart of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Zaragosa Beserra
1917-2003
SAN ANGELO -- Zaragosa Beserra, the father of Emelia Lugo of Snyder, died Friday, Oct. 3, in a San Angelo nursing home.
Funeral service for Mr. Beserra, 85, is set for 2 p.m. Monday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Sonora Cemetery.
Born Dec. 18, 1917 in Avoca, Iowa, he was preceded in death by his mother, Rafeala Tambunga; three sisters, Tamasa Duran, Elida Galindo and Petra Rodriguez; and a brother, Pedro Tambunga.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Emelia Beserra; three other daughters, Anna Martinez of San Angelo, Guadalupe Garcia of Sonora and Isabel Guzman of San Antonio; two sons, Zaragosa Beserra Jr. of Big Spring and David Beserra of Sterling City; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Max Vincent
1929-2003
Max Elroy Vincent, longtime Snyder resident, died Monday, Oct. 6, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Vincent, 73, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buddy Payne, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Dec. 1, 1929 in Talpa, he married Jo Owens on Jan. 15, 1988 in Odessa.
Mr. Vincent was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and earned his bachelor’s degree in commerce and accounting from Texas Christian University in 1957.
Mr. Vincent was retired as an accountant from Robert Hall Clothiers and then became manager of Munden’s Discount Center in Snyder. He later was manager of Dickie’s Work Clothes Rental and most recently was an employee of Ace Hardware. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Vincent of Snyder; a son, Scott Vincent of Midland; three stepdaughters, Diane Lane of Dallas, Sharon Dorsey of Odessa and Sandra Jamison of Andrews; a brother, Joe Vincent of Saginaw and formerly of Snyder; a sister, June Presley of Abilene; and 16 grandchildren.
Georgia Tefertiller
1916-2003
Georgia Thompson Tefertiller, a resident of Snyder since 1951, died Monday, Oct. 6, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Tefertiller, 86, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Miller Robinson, retired minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Oct. 16, 1916 in Flora, Ill., she married Carl Tefertiller on Jan. 16, 1941 in Clayton, Mo.
They lived in Salem, Ill., and Mr. Tefertiller enlisted in the Navy Seabeas. In 1946, the Navy transferred him to Providence, R.I., and Mrs. Tefertiller worked in a defense plant.
The family was transferred to Snyder by Mobil Oil Co. in 1951 and Mrs. Tefertiller was employed by Sears in Snyder for 21 years.
A homemaker, Mrs. Tefertiller was a member of the Colonial Hill Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, and active in children and youth activities for many years as well as the church builders organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Carl “Red” Tefertiller of Snyder and several nieces and nephews..
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Snyder, 1500 28th Street; or to the Cogdell Hospital Foundation, 1700 Cogdell Blvd.
Mettie Caperton
Graveside service for Mettie Lee Westbrook Whitson Caperton was set for 2 p.m. Today in Hillside Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Charles Day, pastor of the Avenue D Baptist Church, was to officiate. Arrangements were under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Capterton died Saturday, Oct. 4, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She married Raymond Whitson in the early 1930s in Brady. She married Ford Caperton on May 6, 1961 in Abilene. He died May 6, 1981.
A resident of Snyder since 1961, she and her husband operated several grocery stores in Snyder. Mrs. Caperton was a member of the American Legion and the Sons of Hermann Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hollis of Corpus Christi; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christine Whitson of Pacific, Wash.; two grandchildren, Shelby Wade Hollis of Edinburg and Heidi Johanson of Arcadia, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Sven Gunner and Ana Korin Johanson of Arcadia.
Memorials may be made to the Cogdell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Foundation.
Dyann Davis
1945-2003
Dyann Davis of Big Spring died Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Scenic Mountain Hospital in Big Spring after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Davis, 57, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Dunn Cemetery. The Rev. George Cooper of Grace Temple Baptist Church in San Angelo will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 7, 1945 in Colorado City, Mrs. Davis was reared in the Dunn area and moved from Snyder to Big Spring 35 years ago. She a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Choya Davis of O’Donnell, Heath Davis of Brownfield and Barry Davis of San Angelo; seven sisters, Nancy Ashley of Andrews, Claudia Anderson of Throckmorton, Louise Burt of Knox City, Mary Christian of Big Spring, Janice Clark of Haskell, Cynthia Coal of West Columbia and Cynthia Palmer of Austin; three brothers, Jerry Bob Johnson and Mike Collins, both of Knox City, and Robert Adams of Hobbs, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and a lifelong companion, Carroll D. Calvert of Big Spring.
Family visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Velma King
1908-2003
WICHITA FALLS -- Velma King, the aunt of Kenneth Smith and Bobby Smith of Snyder and Buster Smith of Granbury, formerly of Snyder, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Wichita Falls.
Service for Mrs. King, 95, are set for 1 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Cemetery in Dundee, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton-Vaughn Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 26, 1908 in Dundee to Jimmy Love and Fannie Kindel Holmes, she had seven brothers and sisters. She married William Marion King on Sept. 5, 1926. He died in 1981.
Mrs. King helped care for people who were ill and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Marion R. King who died in the Korean War at age 25, an infant who died at one day old and a daughter, Bettie Lou Almquist who died in 1971; and a granddaughter, Sharlie Almquist who died last May.
Survivors also include two brothers, Felix and John Holmes; a son-in-law, Paul Almquist; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
