Zonetta Stiles
1918-2003
TYLER -- Zonetta Stiles, the sister of Ena Carroll of Snyder, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, in a Tyler hospital.
Service for Mrs. Stiles, 85, is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Burks-Walker-Tippet Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. B.C. McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler.
Born July 13, 1918 in Mineola to the Rev. and Mrs. N.V. Hamrick, she attended Arp and Tyler schools and Tyler Commercial College. A resident of Tyler since 1937, she and her husband owned and operated Stiles Refrigeration. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church and the Priscilla Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Juanita Gatlin; and three brothers, N.V. Hamrick Jr., Carroll Truett Hamrick and James Calvert Hamrick.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jake Stiles of Tyler; two sons, Tom and Jim Stiles, both of Tyler; a daughter, Sally Exelbierd of Chandler; two other sisters, Dorrace Gatlin of Dallas and Marilyn Searcy of Oklahoma City; a brother, Owen Hamrick of Arp; and three grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Azelway Boys Ranch or to a charity of choice.
Kaitlyn Mae Cole

STUTTGART, Germany --Kaitlyn Mae Cole was born Sunday, Aug. 31, in Kreiskrakenhaus in Boeblinger County Hospital in Stuttgart and died the same day.
Funeral service is set for 8 a.m. (CST) Friday.
Survivors include her father, Scott M. Cole, a Snyder High School graduate and an inactive member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church serving in the U.S. Navy stationed at Naval Special Warfare Unit Two in Stuttgart; her mother Roberta Cole of Indianapolis, Ind., a photographer for the 7th Area Training Command in Stuttgart; a sister, Alexis Cullanian of the home.
Also surviving are her grandmother, great-grandmother and several family members in Indianapolis.
Survivors also include her grandparents, Bob and Mae Cole of Snyder; an aunt and uncle, Dawn and Truett Burney and cousin Audrey Poe, all of Greenville; uncle and aunt Robbie and Donna Cole and cousin Alexandra Cole, all of The Colony; and several family members in Texas and New Mexico.
Richard Jones
1951-2003
OWASSO, Okla. -- Richard Clint Jones of Tulsa, Okla., son of Laura Jones of Snyder, died Wednesday, Sept. 3 in a Owasso hospital.
Memorial service for Mr. Jones, 52, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso with the Rev. Randy Binion officiating.
Born Jan. 16, 1951 in Fort Worth, he was the son of Laura Jean Brickell Jones and the late Denver Clint Jones.
Survivors also include his wife, Mitzi Jane Jones of Tulsa; one son, Darrin Clint Jones of Tulsa; four daughters, Amy Knight Coffeeville, Kan., Angela Ritchie of Oklahoma City, Kristin Cole of Owasso and Krystal Jones of Tulsa; one sister, Diana Owen of Lufkin; and eight grandchildren, Devin, Andrew, Kutler, Karsen, Ethan, Jolie, Matthew and Lillian Bella.
Alvaro Baeza
1919-2003
Alvaro Baeza, 83, died Friday, Sept. 5, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Rosary for Mr. Baeza is set for 7 p.m. Sunday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Frank Ortegon will officiate.
Funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Teo officiating. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Oct. 2, 1919 in Texas, he married Nicolasa Estrella in 1961 in Presidio.
A resident of Snyder the past 12 years, Mr. Baeza was a retired farm and ranch worker and a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Nicolasa Baeza of Snyder; a daughter, Connie Baeza of Snyder; a son, Javier Baeza of Snyder; five sisters, Delores Cuniga and Carmen Medrano, both of Odessa, Emma Vallanueva, Hortencia Ramirez and Anna Garcia, all of Presidio.
Dick Teague
1917-2003
MIDLAND -- Richard “Dick” Teague, a native of Snyder, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Mabee Center in Manor Park.
Funeral service for Mr. Teague, 85, was held Saturday afternoon in the Resthaven North Cemetery in the Mausoleum with Skip Hedgepath of Home Hospice officiating.
Born May 15, 1918 in Snyder to Wilson and Viola Teague, his mother died when he was two years old and he was reared by his aunts.
A graduate of Snyder High School, Mr. Teague joined the U.S. Navy and served six years as a radioman.
He then worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell and then went to work for Texaco as a draftsman, retiring after 33 years. He was a Methodist and a member of the Midland VFW Post.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy Louise Raney Teague; a stepson, Robert Thurman Bryant; and one brother, Royce Teague.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Allen of Midland; a brother-in-law, Cotton Raney of Graham; and several nieces and nephews.
Jake Bullard
1927-2003
THE WOODLANDS -- James C. “Jake” Bullard, former Snyder resident, died Sunday, Aug. 31, following a brief illness.
Service for Mr. Bullard, 75, was held Wednesday in Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. The Rev. Stew Grant officiated. Burial followed in Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.
Born Dec. 13, 1927 in Lawton, Okla., to Rena and Claude Bullard, he served as a Marine Corps drill sergeant in the Korean War. While serving in the Marines, he married Patsy M. Carr on May 5, 1950.
He worked for Standard Oil of Texas and was assistant production foreman for SACROC in Snyder. He was promoted by Chevron to production superintendent of the Redwash-Bluebell fields near Vernal, Utah.
After 32 years service, Mr. Bullard retired from Chevron in 1980. He then accepted the position of production superintendent with IIAPCO in Jakarta, Indonesia overseeing operations in the Java Sea. He retired in 1989 and relocated to Granbury and moved to Conroe 12 years later.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Bullard of The Woodlands; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jana and Dennis Evans of Branson, Mo., and Sheri and Brandy Daugherty of Magnolia; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Heidi Bullard of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Ruby Bullard of Redding, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Dayton McCarter
1919-2003
Joseph Dayton McCarter, longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, Sept. 6, in Luman-Lusk-Sanchez VA Home in Big Spring after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. McCarter, 83, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Hermleigh with Dr. Rex Reynolds, pastor, and Rick Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Sept. 30, 1919 in Slaton, he married Mary Ella Pherigo on Dec. 31, 1939 in the Canyon Community in Scurry County.
A resident of the area since 1927, Mr. McCarter served four years in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was on his way to the China-Burma-India Theatre when the war ended. He served there a short period. En route there, he left from El Paso and went through the Port of New York. On his return, he came through the Port of San Francisco to El Paso, thus going around the world.
Mr. McCarter then joined the Army National Guard and served for 13 years, attaining the rank of master sergeant.
Mr. McCarter worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring as a mechanic in 1981.
An ordained Baptist minister since the late 1950s, he had served as pastor of the 8th Street Baptist Church in Seminole and the Missionary Baptist Church in Colorado City.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ella McCarter of Snyder; a son, David M. McCarter of Odessa; two grandchildren, Krystle Spill of Snyder and Zack McCarter of Odessa; three great-grandchildren, Riley and Marley Spill of Snyder and Angel McCarter of Odessa; a niece, Ann Craig of Del Rio; and a nephew, Bob McCarter of Snyder.
Family visitation is set for 7-8 this evening at Bell-Cypert Seale Funeral Home.
Judy Ballenger
1953-2003
SWEETWATER -- Judy Ann Ballenger, a graduate of the Western Texas College nursing program, died Thursday, Sept. 4, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ballenger, 50, was set for 2 p.m. today in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Orvel Brantley officiating. Burial was to follow in the Garden of Memories.
Born June 2, 1953 in Kermit, she married Cranston Ballenger on Jan. 26, 1970 in Mexico.
A resident of Sweetwater since 1970, she was a 1973 graduate of Sweetwater High School and she graduated from WTC in 1991.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Ballenger had been employed by the Rolling Plains Health Care Service the past 10 years.
Survivors include her husband, Cranston Ballenger of Sweetwater, a son, Christopher Ballenger of Sweetwater; two daughters, Lena Andrus of Sweetwater and Peggy Bedea of Spokane, Wash.; three sisters, Kathey Ballenger and Sarah Cooper of Sweetwater and Frances Belcher of Quanah; five brothers, Loyd Layman of Bay City, Bruce Layman of Midland, Bobby Fisher of Roscoe, Tony Fisher and Sandy Fisher, both of Sweetwater; her mother, Lena Odellia Fisher of Roscoe, her father, Dwayne Layman of Ozona; and seven grandchildren.
