Murrel Riggan
1925-2003
MERKEL -- Lonnie Murrel Riggan, the father of Tim Riggan of Snyder, died Sunday, Sept. 7, in the Merkel Nursing Center.
Funeral service for Mr. Riggan, 78, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pioneer Memorial Methodist Church, located at FM 126 South. Burial will follow in the White Church Cemetery under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 1, 1925, he spent his childhood and young adult life in Mulberry Canyon and attended school at White Church, Butman and Merkel.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 22, 1944, returning home in July, 1946. He married Willie Mae Davis on March 25, 1948 in Sweetwater.
Mr. Riggan retired from U.S. Gypsum after 36 years and continued farming and ranch. He served on the Trent school board for nine years and was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Methodist Church where he served as assistant superintendent and chairman of the Lord’s Acre. He also was a member of the Mulberry Canyon volunteer fire department, treasurer of White Church Cemetery and was honored as conservation farmer of the year in Taylor County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Columbus and Gracie Alice Brown Riggan; three sisters, Gerldine Riggan, Elsie Swinney and Lola Mae Holmes Whisenhunt; and two brothers, Carl and Jimmy “Sonny” Riggan.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Riggan of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna Jane and Bill Clark of Merkel and Patricia Ann and David Featherson of Novice; a daughter-in-law, Dianna Riggan of Snyder; another son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Teresa Riggan of Merkel; a brother and sister-in-law, Denzil and Freddie Riggan of Sweetwater; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lu and Kent Satterwhite of Merkel; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy and Lonnie Clark, Brandon Rice, Justin and Zachary Riggan, Russell and Tyler Riggan and James and Kyle Clark.
Susan Rogers
1951-2003
Susan Elaine Rogers, 52, passed away in the early morning hours of Sept. 11, in the presence of her family, after a tremendous battle against breast cancer.
Service for Mrs. Rogers is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with John Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born June 30, 1951, she married John Rogers on June 6, 1969 in Snyder. She was a 1969 graduate of Snyder High School and had been employed by Midwestern Services as payroll clerk and bookkeeper since 1995. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, John Rogers of Snyder; one daughter, Jennifer Rogers of Snyder; two sons, John Rogers Jr. of Snyder and Judd Rogers of Austin; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelby and Tommy Clayton of Snyder, Sharon and Terry Gray and Sammye and Wayne McClure, all of Midland; her stepmother, Beth McDaniel of Hermleigh; a stepsister, Bridgett Thompson of Snyder; a stepbrother, Brian Brunson of Midland; and three grandchildren, Briana Bryant, Anna Rogers and Hanna Rogers.
Family visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ree Milner
1963-2003
HAMLIN -- Barbara “Ree” Milner, injured in a school bus wreck near Snyder in 1978, died Monday, Sept. 8, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Service for Mrs. Milner, 40, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday in the Hamlin First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
Born July 20, 1963 in Hamlin, she was a 1981 graduate of McCaulley High School. While a student there, she was on a bus carrying 25 students to a basketball playoff game in Hermleigh when the bus was in collision with an oilfield service truck on U.S. 180 east of Snyder. She was severely injured and required a blood transfusion.
In 1995, she was hospitalized with pneumonia and medical tests revealed she had cirrhosis of the liver caused by hepatitis. Scars on the liver were at least 15 years old, leaving doctors to believe cirrhosis began soon after the bus wreck. She received a liver transplant in 1996.
Mrs. Milner also was a graduate of the Western Texas College nursing program and she worked as a food and nutrition supervisor at Hendrick Medical Center. She also attended Cisco Junior College and became a licensed childcare provider.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Milner of Hamlin; her mother, Mary Ann Coleman of Hamlin; two daughters, Dorothy Williams of Denton and Regina Colomb of Abilene; three sisters, Diana Mayes of St. Roberts, Mo., Jonell Mayes of Abilene and Arlene Bell of Abilene; an aunt, Bobbie Nichols of Abilene; her Godparents, A.C. and Edna Thompson of Snyder; and three granddaughters.
Steve Wells
1917-2003
LINDEN -- Steve Vance Wells, father of Joan Tate of Snyder, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, in a Linden hospital.
Service for Mr. Wells, 86, was held last Thursday at Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home Chapel with Don Phelps officiating. Burial followed in Bear Creek Cemetery.
Born July 8, 1917 in Linden, Mr. W ells was retired from Red River Arsenal and Linden-Kildare Schools. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Wells of Linden; a son-in-law, Barney Tate of Snyder; another daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ronald Yates of Atlanta, Texas; one brother, Carl Wells of Hammond, La.; four grandchildren including Sheila Collier of Snyder; nine great-grandchildren including Kasey Collier of Austin and Ty Collier of Snyder; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bud Freeman
1943-2003
Bud Freeman, a former resident of Snyder, died June 4 in Rotan.
Services for Mr. Freeman, 60, were held June 7 in the Foursquare Church in Rotan. Burial followed in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
Born April 15, 1943 in Santa Domingo, N.M., he married Jackie Hardin on May 27, 1975 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Freeman was a mechanic for 47 years. He was shop foreman for Thomas-Stanfield Chrysler-Plymouth in Snyder for five years and he also owned and operated Freeman’s Radiator Shop in Snyder. He returned to Rotan in 1990 and was a member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Freeman of Rotan; two sons, Keith Hardin and Ebbin Freeman Jr.; a stepson, Paul Dale Freeman; four daughters, Sahala Hardin, Cindy Freeman, Lisa Freeman and Jamie Freeman; a stepdaughter, Susie Freeman; three brothers, Lloyd Freeman, Rusty Freeman and Charles Freeman; a sister, Mary Anttila; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Adalisa Rodriquez

Adalisa Marie Rodriquez, 9˝ month old daughter of Karen Rodriquez of Snyder, died Thursday, Sept. 11, in Rolling Plains Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Rosary is set for 8 p.m. today in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with deacon Frank Ortegon officiating. Burial will follow in Hil lside Memorial Gardens.
Adalisa was born on Dec. 27, 2002 in Snyder.
Survivors include her mother, Karen Rodriquez of Snyder; her maternal grandparents, Lisa and Clemente Rodriquez of Snyder; and maternal great-grandparents, John and Lisa Montez of Snyder.
Don Keller
1934-2003
Don Keller, a native of Scurry County, died Saturday, Sept. 13, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Keller, 69, was set for 10 a.m. today in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Monte Wike, pastor of the First Christian Church in Colorado City, officiating. Burial was to follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born May 27, 1934 in Snyder, he graduated from Snyder High School in 1952 where he was tri-captain of the varsity football team and a four-year letterman.
He married Lorita Stirling on Oct. 1, 1960 in the Knapp Community. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on June 9, 1983 after 31 years. He owned and operated an ice house and heating and air conditioning business in Buna, Texas before returning to Ira in 1992 where he farmed and ranched.
A member of the Ira Methodist Church, Mr. Keller was Master of the Scurry Masonic Lodge #706 in 1965-66 and was also Past Master of the Ira Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Lorita Keller of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Karmen and Ron Dosser of Woodville; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Julie Keller of San Antonio; a sister, Linda Kay Railey of Pflugerville; his mother-in-law, Dena Faye Stirling of Ira; two nephews, Lance and Jai Fulford; a niece, Xan Fulford; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Karen Sanders
1949-2003
COLORADO CITY -- Karen Kay Sanders, the sister of Sue McGuire of Snyder, died Saturday, Sept. 13, in a Midland Hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Sanders, 53, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 22nd and Austin Streets Church of Christ with Royce Clay officiating. Burial will following in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 26, 1949 in Colorado City, she married James Sanders on May 10, 1969 in San Angelo. A resident of Stanton, she had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years and was a member of the 22nd and Austin Streets Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, W.W. Holman.
Survivors also include her husband, James Sanders of Stanton; her mother, Wilda Holman of Colorado City; a daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Robert Barboza of Stanton; a son and daughter-in-law, Clinton and Mandi Sanders of Midland; three brothers, Donald Holman of Sand Springs, Marvin Holman of Sweetwater and Rob Holman of Colorado City; and six grandchildren.
