Evelyn Thompson
1920-2003
ABILENE -- S. Evelyn Thompson, aunt of Leticia McJimsey of Snyder, died Friday, Sept. 19, at an Abilene care facility.
Graveside service for Mrs. Thompson, 82, was set for 3 p.m. Saturday in Elmwood Funeral Home.
Born on Dec. 24, 1920 in Fisk, she graduated from Coleman High School. Mrs. Thompson worked at Camp Barkley during World War II and then in the Coleman County clerk’s office for many years. She moved to Abilene in the late 1950s where she worked for Abilene Savings as a legal secretary until she retired.
Survivors include a sister, Marvella Craig of Abilene; one brother, Virgil Thompson of Lubbock; and several other nieces and nephews.

Flo Price
1913-2003
STERLING CITY -- Florine (Flo) Price, the mother of Lois Cave of Snyder, died Saturday, Sept. 20.
Funeral service for Mrs. Price, 90, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Sterling City Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Foster Cemetery under the direction of Ross Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 14, 1913 in Throckmorton County, she attended high school in Goree and earned her B.A. degree from Texas State College for Women in Denton.
At age 19 she began teaching primary grades in a one-room school at Brushy School in Haskell County. She began teaching math in Sterling City in 1936 and held this position for eight years.
She married Foster Sims Price on Jan. 29, 1944. Mrs. Price was a member of the Sterling City Church of Christ and taught Bible classes. She also was active in school and civic activities in Sterling City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Price; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hill Allen; a brother, Rex Allen; and a sister, Jo Moore.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Tanis Price of San Angelo and Frank and Ginger Price of Sterling City; two other daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Courtney King of San Angelo and formerly of Snyder and Shirley and Daniel Johnson of Big Spring; another son-in-law, James Cave of Snyder; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Vivian Allen of Clarendon, Taylor and Margie Allen of Goree and Rhoades and Jean Allen of Denton; a sister, Lois Liles of Throckmorton; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 this evening at the Sterling City Church of Christ.

Hazel White
1912-2003
Services for Hazel Lena White, former longtime resident of Dunn, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. White, 91, died today in Hendrick Wisteria Place in Abilene.
Born July 18, 1912 in Ennis, she married Grady White on Jan. 18, 1930 in Dunn. He died Sept. 15, 1989. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Dunn Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Foy “Butch” White in 1985; a daughter, Gwendolyn Lou White in 1937; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Bond and Ellen Campbell. both of Abilene; two sons, Bobby Jack White of Gladewater and Andrew James White of Abilene; a brother and sister-in-law, J.L. and Doris Byars of Snyder; 15 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Kay Sissentstein
1922-2003
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Kay King Sharp Sissenstein, the sister of Bill King of Snyder, died this morning in Riverside, Calif.
Services for Mrs. Sissenstein, 81, are pending.
She was born in 1922 in Snyder.

Dan Dever
1931-2003
E.H. “Dan” Dever Jr., a native of Scurry County, died this morning in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Dever, 72, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the 37th Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born July 21, 1931 in Snyder, he was reared in Scurry County and entered the military in 1952 and retired as a master sergeant in 1972. He served in both the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.
He married Frieda Whitehurst on Oct. 6, 1953 in Snyder.
Mr. Dever joined the staff of Western Texas College in 1973 as veterans outreach officer. In 1974 he also was named WTC registrar and served in both capacities until his retirement in 1993. At the time of his death, he was serving as part-time county veterans service officer.
Mr. Dever had served as both a deacon and elder of the 37th Street Church of Christ and had been involved in the building of churches in Quito, Ecuador.
Survivors include his wife, Frieda Dever of Snyder; three daughters, Terri Williams and Sharon Wemken, both of Snyder, and Kathy Kelley of Ranger; two sons, Henry Dever of Andrews and Jerry Dever of Temple; several nieces and nephews, Gerald Bullard of Snyder, Jerris Bullard of Manassa, Va., Danny Dever of California, Jack Lambert of Amarillo, Delores Brame of San Antonio, Dean Dever, Doris Mohamed and Bonnie Dever, all of Lawton; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John Garcia
1926-2003
John Garcia, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 21, in Odessa Regional Hospital.
Funeral service is set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Max Zamarano officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Born Jan. 26, 1926 in Seguin, he married Otila Rios De La Garza on Jan. 9, 1944 in Seguin. Mr. Garcia moved to Snyder in 1950 where he worked in the oilfield and later retired from Western Texas College.
Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Otila Garcia; three brothers; and one grandson.
Survivors include a sister, Concha Garcia of San Jose, Calif.; four brothers, Ascencion Garcia and Gilbert Garcia , both of Seguin, Joe Garcia of San Jose and Raymond Garcia of Michigan; seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Dora and Chavel Romero of Dallas; Elecia and Joe Albarez and Janie and Luis Molina, all of Snyder, Josephine and Max Alamo of Lufkin, Rosie and Johnny Alarcon of Austin, Mary Lou and Johnny Mata of Odessa and Debra McCrary of Odessa; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Manuel and Janie Garcia of Snyder, Willie and Emelda Garcia of Andrews and Freddy Garcia of Round Rock; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Opal Davidson
1922-2004
Opal Alene Davidson, a former resident of Scurry County, died Tuesday, March 30, in Hobbs Healthcare Center in Hobbs, N.M.
Funeral service for Mrs. Davidson, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Faith Baptist Church in Snyder with the Rev. Larry White, pastor, and the Rev. LaVoid Ford, pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Hobbs, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 2, 1922 in Hermleigh, she married James Davidson in 1984. He died in November, 1999. A homemaker, Mrs. Davidson was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Hobbs.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Karleen McMahan of Hobbs and David R. and Sheri McMahan of Castaic, Calif.; a sister, Lee Lam of Winnsboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John Trussell
1910-2004
Graveside service for John Henry Trussell of Bangs, formerly of Scurry County, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Snyder Cemetery with Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor of Colonial Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Mr. Trussell, 93, died Tuesday, March 30, in Bangs.
He was born Aug. 28, 1910 on the J. Wright Mooar Ranch in Scurry County. He was in the Army infantry during World War II serving in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed with the RS&P Railroad before moving to Slaton in 1962 where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in the track maintenance department, retiring as a section foreman.
Mr. Trussell married Lora I. Wood on Jan. 1, 1936 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1979. He also was preceded in death by a son, Morris Wood Trussell; a sister, Pauline Scrivner; and a brother, Ambrose Trussell.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Travis and Libby Trussell of Bushland and Tommy Trussell of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Kelly Schaffer and Calvin Schaffer, both of Groom; and three nieces, Shirley Miller, Kathy Hall and Elois Pruitt, all of Snyder.

A. J. White
1927-2004
A. J. White, a resident of both San Angelo and Menard, died Tuesday, March 30, in a San Angelo hospital.
Graveside service for Mr. White, 77, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder.
Viewing will be today and Friday at Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo.
Mr. White was born March 18, 1927 in Fort Worth to Archer and Nellie White. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. White worked 34 years for Southwestern Bell, many of those years in Snyder, and after retirement he enjoyed working in his shop and motorcycling. He also worked with the Boy Scouts for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kathlyn White of Menard and San Angelo; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bob and Betty White of San Angelo, Jim and Margaret White of Pampa and Danny White of Menard; a grandson, Chris White and wife Kelly of Kennesaw, Ga.; two granddaughters, Jenny White of Pampa and Becky Mohling and husband Jim of San Angelo; and a cousin, Katherine Taylor of Carrollton.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be sent to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
