T.F. Davis
1917-2004
POST -- T.F. Davis, a native of Scurry County, died Monday, March 8, in the Golden Plains Care Center.
Funeral service for Mr. Davis, 86, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Blacklock, pastor of the Cowboy Church in Justiceburg, officiating. Burial will follow in the Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Justice-Mason Funeral Home.
Born April 10, 1917 at Ennis Creek in Scurry County to Isiah and Mertie Belle (Martin) Davis, he married Ruby Nell Blacklock on July 20, 1935 in Godley. She died in 1996.
Mr. Davis Moved to Garza County in 1940 to farm and ranch. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he returned to Post to work for General American Oil Co. as a pumper, retiring in 1980. Mr. Davis was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Leon Davis in 2000; and by nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Kay Davis of Fort Worth and Leslie and Linda Davis of Post; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Elvin Allen of Post and formerly of Snyder; a daughter-in-law, Marie Davis of Post; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mary Turner
1916-2004
Mary Marie Turner of Snyder died Monday, March 8, in Kristi Lee Manor in Colorado City.
Funeral service for Mrs. Turner, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. LeRoy Ochoa officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Nov. 27, 1916 in Cherry Vale, Kan., she married Fred Turner on Sept. 14, 1935 in Longview. He preceded her in death as did her parents, Samuel David and Edna Agnes McCormac, and a son, Norman Turner.
Mrs. Turner was a retired nurse and a Baptist.
Survivors include four daughters, Florabell Stephens and Darlene Turner, both of Snyder, Mary Reese of Irving and Donna Gallatin of Ketchikan, Alaska; two sons, Fred Turner Jr. of Odessa and Phillip Turner of Capitan, N.M.; a brother, Chester McCormac of Wichita, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kirkland
1917-2004
AUSTIN -- Raymond Kirkland, the father of Peggy Chandler of Snyder, died Monday, March 1.
Services for Mr. Kirkland, 87, were held Wednesday with the Rev. Ray Knowles officiating.
Born Jan. 9, 1917 in Stephenville to Willis and Elry Kirkland, he married Mavis Kirkland on Aug. 8, 1938 in Sweetwater.
Mr. Kirkland had lived in Snyder prior to moving to Austin in 1966. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mavis Kirkland of Austin; two other daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Skip Sibert of Austin and Doris and Floyd “Red” Sutton of Hobbs, N.M.; a son-in-law, Doyle Chandler of Snyder; a sister Wanda Glidewell of Zavalla; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren
Ricky L. Salazar
1984-2004
VERNON -- Ricky Lee Salazar, 19, of Stamford, formerly of Vernon, died Friday, March 5, in a Stamford hospital.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Oren Key officiating. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon.
Salazar was born Nov. 12, 1984 in Haskell, a son of Ricky Salazar and Delores Martinez. He was a 2003 graduate of Harrold High School where he played football, basketball, track, and wrestling. He was on the yearbook committee and was a football scholarship nominee. He had been a resident of Vernon until late in 2003 when he moved to Stamford where he was currently working for a furniture store.
Ricky is survived by his father, Ricky and stepmother, Karen Salazar of Vernon; his mother, Delores Martinez of Snyder; his paternal grandmother, Carmen Salazar of Vernon, his maternal grandparents, Joe and Lucy Lopez of Snyder; his paternal great-grandmother, Anestacia Garza of Taylor; two brothers, Leon Salazar and Ysmael Salazar, both of Vernon; two sisters, Amanda Salazar and Gabriell Salazar, both of Vernon; one nephew; two nieces; two stepbrothers, Tommy Hendrix and John Hendrix, both of Vernon; two stepsisters, Kelsey Hendrix of Vernon and Veronica Selvera of Snyder.
Rosary will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon.
Anthony Martinez

SAN ANGELO -- Graveside service for Anthony Joseph Martinez, infant son of Dorian and Lindsay Martinez, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Emmett Corker officiating. The baby died Thursday.
Survivors include an older sister, Briana; his grandparents, Paula Summerlin, Rickey and Lori Summerlin and Ron and Luita Nobles; his great-grandparents, Marshall and JoAnn Gregory, Barbara Summerlin, Sherwood and Nancy Hart, E.C. and Mary Nobles of Snyder and Mildred Nobles; his great-great-grandmother, Blanche Southmayd; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Harold Coffman
1908-2004
ANTON -- Harold M. Coffman, the grandfather of Zola Schlegel of Snyder, died Wednesday, March 10.
Funeral service for Mr. Coffman, 96, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Anton with the Rev. Lloyd Stice officiating. Interment will follow in the Anton Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Born March 3, 1908 in Missouri, he married Truby Chancey on Sept. 22, 1926 in Plainview. She died on Feb. 4, 2004.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Coffman operated Coffman Food Store in Anton for 38 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Anton Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Zelda Teague Barnett of Lubbock; another granddaughter, Malva Smith of Lubbock; five great-grandchildren, Kellie Schlegel and Therin Smith, both of Lubbock, Jay Smith of Houston, Russell Schlegel of Amarillo and Lea Smith of Dallas.
The family suggests memorials to the Little People of America, 5289 N.E. Elam Young Parkway, Suite F-700, Hillsboro, Ore., 79124; or to a favorite charity.
E.C. Payne
1917-2004
LEVELLAND -- E.C. Payne Jr., the father of the Rev. Buddy Payne of Snyder, died Thursday, March 11, in Covenant Hospital in Levelland.
Funeral service for Mr. Payne, 86, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jesse Hodge and Raymond Ochoa officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery under the direction of George C. Price Funeral Directors.
Born Nov. 5, 1917 in Snyder, he moved to Levelland in 1928 and married Jimmie Lea Lawson on June 8, 1944 in Lubbock.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Fighting 69th in Germany. He then attended West Texas State College on a football-basketball scholarship.
Mr. Payne owned Levelland Auto Supply for 22 years and worked at Fisher’s Auto Supply for 11 years, retiring in 1982.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, he served as chairman of the board from 1967-70 and was active with the Methodist Men, the Lions Club, Jaycees and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors also include his wife, Jimmie Lea Payne of Levelland; two daughters, Sheri Jean Belyeu of Lubbock and Susan Marlene Bradley of Crosbyton; a sister, Vivian Poston of Ruidoso, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Max Stuart
1916-2004
ROBY -- Max Odell Stuart, the grandfather of Cindy Putnam of Snyder, died Wednesday, March 10, in Fisher County Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Stuart, 87, was set for 10 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Roby with Jerry Vincent and Jason Alton officiating.
Born Sept. 22, 1916 in Roby, he married Lorene Curlee on March 21, 1936 in Roby.
Mr. Stuart was active in farming and ranching and in 1934 won the National Livestock Judging competition. He continued to be active in FFA and 4-H livestock show judging and was a past-president of the Roby Fair and Rodeo and served as a director of the Farmers Union Coop Gin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Mamie Teel Stuart; six brothers, Rabon, George, L.L., Coy, Tommy and Cub Stuart; and three sisters, Lucille Carter, Eva Nell Dennis and Marjorie McQuestion.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Stuart of Roby; a son, Freddie Max Stuart of Roby; a daughter, Gloria Lou Posey of Rotan; a sister, Emma Lee Collier of Lubbock; five other grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Yank Hildreth
1911-2004
MIDLAND -- Lawrence E. “Yank” Hildreth Sr., father of Larry Hildreth of Snyder, died Sunday, March 7.
A memorial service for Mr. Hildreth, 92, has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Oscar Bejil officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1911 to Fred and Mary Gates Hildreth in Sudbury, Mass., and he was reared and educated there.
Mr. Hildreth moved to Snyder in the 1950s and later to Big Spring. Prior to his retirement, he worked for I&R Meter Service. Mr. Hildreth was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Louise Pickett in 1962.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hildreth of Big Spring; two other sons, Edward L. Hildreth and Paul B. Hildreth; a daughter, Carol Cothran; three stepchildren, Phyllis Sutter, Alton Sutter and Johnny Sutter; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
