James Dennis

AMARILLO -- James Dennis, former Snyder resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, in an Amarillo hospital.
Funeral service is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park in Amarillo under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mr. Dennis, 72, lived in Snyder in the 1960s and was a mechanic.
A brother, Bill Dennis, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Alice Dennis of Amarillo; one son, Buddy Dennis of Amarillo; one sister, Jody Pitts of Amarillo and formerly of Snyder; a sister-in-law, Loraine Dennis of Snyder; a nephew Bubba Dennis of Snyder; two other nephews and a niece formerly of Snyder, Billy Dennis of Connecticut, Tracy Dennis of Lubbock and Tori Thompson of Coleman; and two granddaughters.
Beulah Starnes
1916-2004
Beulah Ariel Starnes, longtime Snyder resident, died Monday, Jan. 19, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Service for Mrs. Starnes, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buddy Payne will officiate. Burial will follow in Snyder Cemetery.
Born April 1, 1916 in Reed, Okla., she married Hubert “Buster” Starnes on Dec. 24, 1938 in Scurry County. He died in 1992.
A homemaker, Mrs. Starnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had been active in the Snyder Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Raymond Richards of Red Rock; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Hubert and Alice Starnes of Lubbock, Johnny Starnes of Midland, Ronald and Penny Starnes of South Bend, Ind., and James and Kay Starnes of Plano; a sister, Bertha Holdridge of Snyder; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Starnes of Odessa, Dennis Starnes of Albuquerque, Pam Kornbach of Jacksonville, Fla., Glenn Starnes and Jodie Rasure, both of Midland, Tiffany Richard of Houston, Deborah Richard of Red Rock, Jordan Starnes and Amanda Starnes, both of South Bend, and Kevin Hindes of Miami, Fla.; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is set for 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Martin
1918-2004
CLEBURNE -- Helen Martin, a former resident of Snyder, died Monday, Jan. 19, in Cleburne.
A memorial service for Mrs. Martin, 86, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Martin’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Miller Robinson and Richard McHenry will officiate.
Born Jan. 18, 1918 in Mart., she was married to Daniel Richard Martin who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Martin taught homemaking at Snyder High School. She began teaching in 1953 and retired in 1979. She was a longtime member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Richard and Julie Martin of Cleburne; a sister, Nelda Gabriel of Dallas; four grandchildren, Joshua, Elias, Sarah, Hope and Hannah Martin; and a great-grandson, Micah Martin.
John Rodriguez
1941-2004
John Rodriguez, 62, died early today in Snyder Oaks Care Center.
Services for Mr. Rodriguez are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fr. Roy Badilles, pastor of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, officiating.
Born Nov. 5, 1941 in Knippa, Texas, he married Eva Andrade on April 28, 1960 in Snyder. Mr. Rodriguez was a mechanic for the Western Company until 1999. He was self-employed at Westside 66 until he began work for Production Pump, retiring in 2001.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ismael and Anita Rodriguez; and one brother, Ramijio Rodriguez.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Rodriguez of Snyder; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carmen and Darrel Clement of Snyder, Gloria and Ron Utley of Artesia, N.M., Diana and Peyton Daniels and Anna Rodriguez of Snyder; three brothers, Moses Rodriguez of Lubbock, Gilbert Rodriguez of Hereford and Raymond Rodriguez of Snyder; one sister, Ofelia Hernandez of Snyder; and five grandchildren, Valarie Utley and Amanda Utley, both of Artesia, and Lanxton Cole, Brent Cole and Brooke Wimmer, all of Snyder.
Richard Stoker

Graveside service for Richard Lee Stoker, 72, is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Hillside Memorial Gardens with Dr. Fane Downs, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Stoker, a life-long resident of Scurry County, died Sunday, Jan. 18, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Born July 20, 1931 in Snyder, he married Rhylene Bishop on June 25, 1954 in Snyder. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Stoker was a farmer and rancher and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Luella Brice Stoker; and a sister, Martha Frances Stoker Huddleston.
Survivors include his wife, Rhylene Stoker of Snyder; a daughter, Revin Stoker of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Roxanne Stoker of Snyder; three grandchildren Colby Stoker of Lubbock, Justin Stoker of Snyder and Bailey Stoker of Denton; and a special family friend, Angela Bibby of Austin.
Friends are contributing to the West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Road in San Angelo, 76904.
Tillie Welsh
1926-2004
Funeral service for Theda Jo “Tillie” Welsh, longtime Snyder resident, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buddy Payne, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Welsh, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 4, at her home in Snyder after a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1926 in Garza County, Mrs. Welsh had been a resident of Snyder since 1951. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and a former operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Wright of Odessa; a son, Bill Bilberry of Snyder; a sister, Louella Bilberry of Post; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Homer Dunn
1925-2004
BIG SPRING -- Homer Chestine Dunn, the brother of Geraldine McPherson of Snyder, died Friday, Jan. 2, in a Pampa hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Dunn, 78, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Binnix officiating.
Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with the Rev. Chris Webb officiating.
Born Sept. 29, 1925 in Ringling, Okla., he married Colleen Hatfield on July 12, 1947 in Wheeler.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he retired as a senior production supervisor from the Vealmoor office of Texaco in December, 1988. A resident of Coahoma, he was a member of the Midway Baptist Church and the McLean Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Survivors also include his wife, Colleen Dunn of Coahoma; three sons, Dennis Dunn of Lefors and Michael and Terry Dunn, both of Coahoma; a daughter, Jonetta Sweatt of Big Spring; a brother, Bob Dunn of Pampa; and four grandchildren.
Annie Paske
1925-2004
ROTAN -- Annie Collene Paske, the mother of Katy Doty of Snyder, died Sunday, Jan. 4, in the Fisher County Hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Paske, 78, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Werth Mayes and Randy Larpenteur officiating. Burial will follow in the Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 29, 1925 in Nienda, she was a life-long resident of Fisher County and married Tomie Paske on June 15, 1948 in Rotan. He preceded her in death as did her parents, Arthur and Addie White; two brothers, G.L. and A.L. White; and a sister, Vivian Langis.
A member of the First Baptist Church, she worked for 19 years as a nurses’ aide at Callan Hospital in Rotan.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Karla Paske of Rotan; two other daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Joe Alan Fudge of Hamlin and Becky and Michael Sanders of Rotan; another son-in-low, Clint Doty of Snyder; two brothers, Sonny White of Rotan and Donald White of Connecticut; two sisters, Christine Baker of Jayton and Josephine Wells of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dick Browning
1935-2004
Ellis Mack “Dick” Browning, a life-long Scurry County resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after a brief illness.
Graveside service for Mr. Browning, 68, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Fluvanna Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 19, 1935 in Dermott, he married Jane Duncan on March 10, 1961 in Snyder.
Mr. Browning had spent most of his life in the grocery business, working for Furr’s, IGA, Piggly Wiggly and Everybody’s Thriftway. At the time of his death he was employed at the Handi-Mart and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Browning of Snyder; two sons, Dicky Wayne Browning of Abilene and Michael Lane Browning of Snyder; three brothers, Rusty Browning and Timp Browning, both of Post, and Billy Ray Browning of Snyder; two sisters, M. J. Merritt of Snyder and Pat Kelley of Rotan; and one granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Browning of Snyder.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
