Albert Bayer
1929-2003
MEADOW -- Albert Bayer, a former school administrator at Fluvanna, died Thursday, March 27, in Brownfield.
Funeral service for Mr. Bayer, 73, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Meadow Church of Christ with Ken McClung officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Born June 16, 1929 in Rowena, he married Carolyn White on Aug. 9, 1953 in Ft. Sumner, N.M.
A 1956 graduate of Texas Tech, he was a teacher and principal at Fluvanna High School before moving to Lubbock to become assistant general manager of Forrest Lumber Company. In 1958, he moved to Brownfield where he was co-manager of Terry County Lumber Company. In 1963, Mr. Bayer moved to Meadow where he owned and operated Bayer Lumber and Hardware for 40 years. He was a member of the Meadow Church of Christ.
Mr. Bayer was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Maxie Bayer; and a sister, Ann Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bayer of Meadow; three sons, Alan Bayer of Meadow, Jeff Bayer of Levelland and Brian Bayer of Denver City; two sisters, Helen Trull of Lubbock and Lillian Glandon of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Ramon Ornelas
1956-2003
COLORADO CITY -- Ramon Heredia Ornelas, a lifelong resident of Colorado City, died Thursday, March 27, at his home.
Rosary for Mr. Ornelas, 47, is set for 7 this evening at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass is set for noon Saturday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Fr. David Espitia officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery.
Born Jan. 23, 1956 in Colorado City, Mr. Ornelas was a carpenter and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Bernice Ornelas of Snyder; three sons, Ramon Ornelas Jr. of Snyder, Phillip Ornelas of Houston and Steven Paul Ornelas of Houston; his parents, Joe and Eusebia Ornelas of Colorado City; three sisters, Irene Martinez of Snyder, Lupe Ornelas of Big Spring and Elida Carrasco of Midland; six brothers, Joe Ornelas of Sweetwater, Robert Ornelas of Colorado City, Jesse Ornelas of Denton, Ruben Ornelas of Midland, David Ornelas of Odessa and Ricky Ornelas of San Angelo; and five grandchildren.
Emma Terry
1926-2003
ROBY -- Emma Faye Terry, 76, died Thursday, March 27, at her home in Roby. Funeral service for Mrs. Terry was held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Roby Church of Christ with Wardell Halliburton and Jason Alton officiating. Burial was to follow in the Roby Cemetery.
Born April 29, 1926 in O’Donnell, she had lived in Rotan until she married Louis Kirmet Terry on May 24, 1941.
A longtime member of the Roby Church of Christ, Mrs. Terry was a retired bookkeeper for the Terry Gin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirmet Terry; two daughters, Patricia Ann Morton and Peggy Ellen Dickson; a great-grandson, Hayden Dickson; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jo Ann Terry of Roby; a daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Larry Williamson of Roby; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Margie Cole of Snyder; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Horace Carter
1927-2003
ROTAN -- Horace Lynn Carter, a lifelong resident of Fisher County, died Friday, March 28, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Funeral service for Mr. Carter, 75, is set for 3 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Evans and Mike O’Neill officiating. Interment will follow in the Belvieu Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born June 5, 1927 at the family home north of Rotan, he was a 1944 graduate of Rotan High School. He soon joined the U.S. Army and served for 15 months at the end of World War II.
He then returned to Fisher County to begin farming with his brother, Grover, and married Betty Joyce Kiker on June 5, 1947.
A farmer for 44 years, Mr. Carter served as a deacon of the Cross Roads Baptist Church for 52 years and was Sunday School director for 22 years.
He served as a director of the Lueders Baptist Encampment for more than 25 years, was an executive board member of the Baptist General Convention of Texas for seven years. He also served on the Double Mountain Area board and had served as a trustee of the Rotan school district. He was a member of the board of the Fisher County Farm Bureau for 12 years, nine years as its president.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Clara Carter; four brothers, Art, Budge, Ray and Grover Carter; and a sister, Mary Singley.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Carter of Rotan; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Dody Carter of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Robert Bailey of Snyder; a sister, Mildred McQueen of Rotan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Mary Carter of Hemet, Calif.; Roy and Rita Carter of Snyder and James and Darlene Carter of Rotan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Carter Tucker and husband Carl of Dallas, and Marie DuPont of Stoney Point, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Ray Kiker and wife Beth of Lago Vista; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Cross Roads Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
Bud Bostick
1921-2003
Leemon “Bud” Bostick, the brother of Horace Bostick of Snyder, died Tuesday, April 29, at his home in Lehigh Acres, Fla.
Funeral service for Mr. Bostick, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Monday in the McNett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Simmons of San Antonio, the Rev. Glen Pipes of Rockdale and Dr. H.A. Hanks of Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.
Born Aug. 4, 1921 in Big Spring, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He married Coza Ree Nix on June 12, 1965 in Midland. The family moved to Baton Rouge, La., in 1966 where he was superintendent for Universal Corporation for 12 years.
Mr. Bostick was a deacon of the Feliciana Baptist Church in Clinton, La., and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
A resident of Lehigh Acres since 1999, he was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and the Lehigh Acres Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Coza Bostick of Lehigh Acres; a son, Jerry Bostick of Houston; two daughters, Vicki Lee Johnson of Lehigh Acres and Fern Denise Ash of Bachelor, La.; another brother, Hollis Loyd of Austin; a sister, Ella Cox of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite hospice.
Pallbearers will be Terry Johnson, Ricky Ash, David Williamson, Scott Bostick, Paul Bostick and Johnny Delgado.
Chester Dorman
1922-2003
AUSTIN -- Chester Horlice Dorman, brother of Nancy Smith of Snyder, died Saturday, May 3, in St. David’s Hospital Austin.
Service for Mr. Dorman, 80, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Chinn officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park under the auspices of the Hill City Masonic Lodge 456. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 16, 1922 in Tahoka, he married his high school sweetheart in 1944 while he was a traffic controller in the U.S. Army. After he was discharged, they moved to Austin where he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. He also located sites for post offices and was overseer of the construction of the office buildings. Following his retirement in 1980, he operated a farm and raised Hereford cattle, built houses and developed a small subdivision in Bastrop County.
He is a charter member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason and belonged to the Hill City Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Oma Dorman; and four brothers, Owen, Garland, C.W. and Marvin Dorman.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dorman of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathy Dorman of Austin; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Charles Turner of Dripping Springs; another sister, Sue Lowrance of Colorado City; a brother, Arnold Ray Dorman of Sweetwater; and four grandchildren, Cheston and Derek Dorman and Lauren and Drew Turner.

Leona Snider
1904-2003
Leona Mae Snider, 99, died Wednesday, May 7, in Snyder Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Snider is set for 11 a.m. Friday in the Colonial Hill Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Miller Robinson, Dr. Ted Spear and Dr. Tommy Culwell. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 6, 1904 in a half dugout at Ennis Creek in Scurry County to the late Charlie and Lula Mae (Hart) Williams, she attended school at Ennis Creek and married W.C. “Bill” Snider on Dec. 25, 1929 in Scurry County. They were the first husband and wife to be baptized into Northside Baptist Church where Mr. Snider was one of the three original deacons.
Mr. Snider organized Snider Plumbing and Floor Covering in 1948 and she worked alongside him until his death on Feb. 25, 1975.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, A.J. and John Williams.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Joann Snider of Snyder; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Carson Clayton of Colorado City; a sister-in-law, Jewell Williams of Snyder; three grandchildren, Max Snider and wife Gail of Snyder, Steve Snider of Dallas and Belinda Blassingame of Colorado City; four step grandchildren and their spouses, Jerrell and Judy Pylant of Carlsbad, N.M., Jeff and Teresa Pylant of Amarillo; Jacqueline and Layton Freeman of Coppell and Janetta and Darrell Kruse of Weatherford; four great-grandchildren, Josh Snider, Emily Snider, Bethany Blassingame and Jonathan Blassingame; and seven step great-grandchildren, Ashley Pylant, Taylor Freeman, Brittany Pylant, Bailey Kruse, Brooke Pylant, Trent Freeman and Kourtney Kruse.
Family visitation will be from 6-7 this evening at the funeral home.

Leo Lebow
1928-2003
ABERNATHY -- Leo Lebow, the brother of Ruby Deavers of Snyder, died Wednesday, May 7, in Lubbock.
Funeral service for Mr. Lebow, 74, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Lowrie officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home.
Born May 30, 1928 in Happy, he was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Annie Ruth Hemphill on Dec. 25, 1978 in Abernathy.
A resident of Abernathy since 1932, he was produce manager at Pay-N-Save. Mr. Lebow was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Lebow of Abernathy; a son, James McNeill of Austin; a daughter, Carolyn Kastor of Victoria; two brothers, Curtis Lebow of San Angelo and Cleatus Lebow of Memphis, Tex.; four other sisters, Daisy Boykin of Shallowater, Tressie Snider of Lubbock, Ramona Barchers of Hobbs, N.M., and Oleta Buzbee of Redmond, Ore.; a niece, Pat Faver of Snyder; a nephew, Bill Deavers of Snyder; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
