Johnny Judah

PORTALES, N.M. – Johnny Judah, the father of Jim Judah of Snyder, died Sunday, July 16 in Lubbock’s Covenant Medical Center. He was 67.
Services for Mr. Judah, a resident of Causey, N.M., are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Southside Church of Christ in Portales. Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
J.C. Bradshaw
1928-2000
HOBBS, N.M. - J.C. Bradshaw, a former Snyder resident, died Saturday, July 15, in Hobbs.
Funeral service for Mr. Bradshaw, 71, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jake Armstrong officiating.
Burial will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 23, 1928 in New Boston, he worked for National Tank Company (NATCO) in Lubbock and Snyder before moving to Hobbs in 1960.
In Hobbs he was co-founder of Hobbs Tank & Treater Service, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Bradshaw was preceded in death by two sisters, Nadine Waters and Dessie Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Freddie Franks Bradshaw of Hobbs; two daughters, Paula Shipp and Susan Cheaney, both of Midland; four brothers, W.D. Bradshaw of Lockesburg, Ark., E.H. Bradshaw of Eagletown, Okla., C.M. Bradshaw of Gladewater and Archie Bradshaw of Arlington; four sisters, Clara Shaw of Horatio, Ark., Bonnie McGhee of Pottsboro, Yvonne Lenhard of Orange and Lorene Adams of Paris; and four grandchildren.
Ada Steakley
1902-2000
TEMPLE – Ada Cravens Steakley, the step grandmother of Jene Steakley of Snyder, died Thursday, July 13, in a Temple nursing home.
Graveside service for Mrs. Steakley, 98, was set for 10 a.m. today in the Sweetwater Cemetery with the Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating.
Born June 30, 1902 in Christian County, Ky., she was a graduate of Bethel College for Women. She worked as an accountant for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for more than 30 years.
She married Z.C. Steakley of Sweetwater in 1956, and they moved to Temple in 1958. She was a member of the Temple First Baptist Church and the City Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Survivors include two stepsons, Dan Steakley of Temple and Dr. H. J. Steakley of Colorado City as well as several other step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Juan Anguiano
1935-2000
BIG SPRING – Juan Anguiano, the brother of Tom Gonzales of Snyder, died Sunday, July 16, in the VA Medical Center in Big Spring.
A rosary for Mr. Anguiano, 65, is set for 7 this evening in the Myers and Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. James Plagens will officiate, and burial will follow in Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Born May 6, 1935 in Coahoma, he married Elena Navarrete in Big Spring. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a lifetime resident of Big Spring, a barber and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Crucillista.
Survivors include his wife, Elena Anguiano of Big Spring; a daughter, Leticia Anguiano of Big Spring; three sons, Carlos Anguiano of Weslaco, Felix and Martin Anguiano, both of Big Spring; his mother, Enedina Gonzalez of Big Spring; two other brothers, Felipe Anguiano and Jose Gonzales, both of Big Spring; a sister, Enedina Granado of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
Johnny Judah

Funeral service for Mr. Judah, 67, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Southside Church of Christ. Officiating will be Leroy Thomas, minister of the Causey Church of Christ, Leslie Earwood of Capitan, N.M., and Delbert Bradley of Dora, N.M. Burial will follow in the Causey Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 28, 1932 in Causey, N.M., in the same house that was now his home. He was reared in Causey and graduated from Causey High School in 1949.
He married Geneva Knight on July 14, 1951 in Portales. Mr. Judah farmed and ranched in the Causey and Dora communities all his life. He served on the Causey school board and on the ASCS committee. Active in 4-H and FFA activities, he was an honorary member of the FFA Chapters in Causey, Dora and Portales.
Mr. Judah was a member of the Causey Church of Christ, New Mexico Horse Breeders Association and active in the Dora Senior Citizens Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred D. Judah on Nov. 26, 1995.
Survivors also include his wife, Geneva of the home; his mother, Lena Judah of Portales; a brother, Bobby Judah of Capitan; a sister, Joe Nell Judah of Portales; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Judah of Snyder; and two granddaughters, Jenise Judah and Jacinda Judah, both of Snyder.
Alice Ruth Gray
1927-2000
Alice Ruth Gray, longtime Snyder resident, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 26, after being airlifted by AeroCare Services to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Tex.
Funeral service for Mrs. Gray, 73, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Miller Robinson, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born June 26, 1927 in McCamey to Edward and Nellie Forsyth, she graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston, Tex. While working at her family’s dude ranch, she met and later married Paul “Dick” Gray on Jan. 17, 1946 in Llano. They moved to Eunice, N.M. where Dick worked for Samedan Oil Company until moving to Goldsmith, Tex. with Phillips Petroleum.
In 1953, they moved to Snyder and over the years she worked with Von Roeder Seed Farms, Dickie’s Work Clothes Rental Service, Howard Gray Auto, Key Brothers Implement Company and Western Texas College as book store manager. All the while, she was Co-owner and Office Manager of Paul Gray Oil Company and their affiliated companies. She was a Methodist.
Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Forsyth, as well as her mother and dad.
Survivors include her husband, Paul “Dick” Gray of Snyder; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Barbara Gray of Snyder and Rodney and Mary Gray of Aledo, Tex.; grandsons Brandon Gray of Dallas and Spencer Gray of Aledo, Tex., and Stafford and Alan Gray of Snyder; two brothers, Clarence Edward Forsyth of Oceana, Calif., Frank Richard Forsyth of Midland; two sisters, Jewel Ziriax of Rye, Tex. and Alla Mae McDowell of Baytown.
Family visitation will be Thursday, July 27, at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.; the family will be at home at 2604 46th St. in Towle Park after services on Friday.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that contributions by made to a favorite charity, the American Heart Association, the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Tex. or San Angelo, Tex., or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Eugene Ewalt
1935-2000
Services for Eugene Ewalt of Snyder are pending at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Ewalt, 65, died this morning in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 12, 1935.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Ewalt; and six children, including Eugene Ewalt Jr. of Snyder
Alva Williams
1913-2000
Funeral service for Alva Williams, former Snyder resident, is set for 10 a.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Williams, 87, died Sunday, July 22, in Edmond, Okla.
Born on July 8, 1913 in Edwards County to Elizabeth and Thomas Casey, she attended Snyder schools and married Elmer (Buddy) Williams on Dec. 25, 1932 in Snyder.
Mrs. Williams lived in Abilene from 1942 to 1997 and was employed by Hendrick Medical center for 30 years. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Abilene. She lived in Edmond, Okla., the past three years and attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Williams, in 1978; her son, Charles Williams, in 1964; and a grandson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Richard Haag of Edmond; a sister, Barbara Lane of Choudrant, La.; a brother, Mat Casey of Ballinger; two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Butler of Austin and Beverly Wilson of Fort Worth, five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Barbara Pierce
1942-2000
BENJAMIN – Barbara W. Pierce, the mother of Jeff Pierce of Snyder, died Tuesday, July 25, in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Pierce, 58, was set for 3 p.m. today in the Benjamin Ex-Students Community Center with Terry Cartwright officiating. Burial was to follow in the Benjamin Cemetery.
Born in Victoria, she married Sammy Pierce in 1959. Mrs. Pierce worked as a postal clerk and was a member of the First Christian Church and Sorosis Club.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy Pierce of Benjamin; two other sons, Keith Pierce of Springtown and Wade Pierce of Lubbock; a sister, Pat Waldron Garza of Knox City; and one grandchild.
Olan Moore
1923-2000
MIDLAND – Olan Thomas Moore, a former resident of Snyder, died Tuesday, July 25, at his home in Midland.
Funeral service for Mr. Moore, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Golf Course Road Church of Christ with Ronnie White officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Born May 24, 1923 in Roby, Mr. Moore was reared in Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School. He attended the University of Nevada in Reno and married Bobby Rae Derryberry on March 11, 1945 in Midland.
During World War II, he was a U.S. Air Force pilot. Mr. Moore was co-owner of Rotary Engineering for 30 years and also was associated with Imco Services and Advance Consultants Corporation. He was a member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ and the Petroleum Club of Midland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson and Mary Lou Stevenson Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Bobby Rae Moore of Midland; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy D. and Barbara Moore of Waco; his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie M. and John Jackson of Denton; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 this evening at the Ellis Funeral Home. The family requests memorials to Midland Christian School, 2001 Culver in Midland, 79705.
