Lilly Ree Forest

HOUSTON -- Lilly Ree Forest, niece of Dolly Harrison of Snyder, died Thursday, Sept. 21, after being struck by a vehicle in Houston.
Service for Miss Forest, 55, was held Thursday in Carl Barnes Funeral Home Chapel in Houston. The Rev. Godwin Haynes officiated. Interment was in Cemetery The Beautiful.
Born on Dec. 21, 1944 in Roscoe to the late Earnest and Birdie Mae Forest, she moved to Houston with her mother in 1956.
A graduate of Jack Yates High School, she worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital for 14 years and at Villa de Matel for the past 12 years. She was a member of the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church and the Texas Traveling Bowling Association.
Survivors include three other aunts, Ola B. Riggins of Houston, Alice Lewis and Leola Archie of Wichita Falls; a stepsister, Louia Jean Wagner of Houston; three adopted sisters, Gloria Green, Joyce Horn and Nora Louise, all of Houston; three adopted brothers, Curtis Lee Green, Leodis Green and William Green, all of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Curtis Lee Green, Sammie Lee Harrison, Howard Gordon, Jurell Riggins, Leodis Green and Morris Lewis.
Doris Eubanks
1936-2000
Funeral service for Doris Eubanks, former Snyder resident, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rex Reynolds, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Hermleigh will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Mrs. Eubanks, died Monday, Oct. 2, at her residence in Mountain Home, Ark. She was 64.
Born May 28, 1936 in Waxahachie, she married Ellis B. Eubanks on April 17, 1962 in Gail.
Survivors include her husband, Ellis B. Eubanks of Mountain Home, Ark.; two sons, Thomas Brown of Odessa and Jeff Eubanks of Mountain Home; two daughters, Janie Klein and Ann Lisko, both of Snyder; three stepsons, Melvin Eubanks of Denver City, Ernest Eubanks of Lubbock and Tommy Eubanks of Denver; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Harwell of Mesquite; two brothers, Ben Brumit of Huntsville and Charlie Brumit of Cleburne; four sisters, Faye Mitchell of Abilene, Sue Whiteside of Big Spring, Juanita Buchanan and Dorothy Matthews, both of Snyder; nine grandchildren, Johnathan Beaird of El Cajan, Calif., Chris, Michael, Krysta Grube of Snyder, LaKrisha Kosler of Houston, Bradley George, Tiffany Brown and Twila Brown, all of Snyder, and Alicia Eubanks of Iowa; eight stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
J.P. Lloyd
1917-2000
NASHVILLE, Ark. – John P. “J.P.” Lloyd, a former Scurry County resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, in a Nashville hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Lloyd, 82, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Latimer Funeral Home Chapel with B.B. Harding officiating. Burial will follow in Langley Cemetery.
Born Dec. 2, 1917 in Cuthbert, he was the son of the late Walter and Effie Mae Butler Lloyd.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Lloyd served in Company G of the 142nd Infantry, 36th Division that was composed of numerous Scurry County residents during World War II.
A farmer and rancher, Mr. Lloyd lived in Howard County for 34 years before moving to Nashville.
Survivors include his wife, Rachael Hartness Lloyd of Nashville; a brother, Claude Lloyd of Andrews; three sisters, Estelle Murphy and Ida Mae Webb, both of Snyder, and Helen Davis of Gun Barrel City; a sister-in-law, Merle Hartness Morphew; and a number of other relatives including nephews Kent Morphew and Gene Hartness.
James Baldwin
1931-2000
PERRYTON – James Clyde Baldwin, a former resident of Snyder, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, at his Perryton residence.
Funeral service for Mr. Baldwin, 69, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Burial will follow in the Ochiltree Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 14, 1931 in Vernon, he married Reta Faye Jones on Dec. 24, 1960 in Fort Worth.
Mr. Baldwin had worked in the oilfields, as a used car dealer and as a scrap metal dealer. A member of the First Baptist Church, he moved from Snyder to Perryton in 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Baldwin of Perryton; two sons, James Clyde “Jamey” Baldwin of Tucson and Carl Baldwin of Arlington; three daughters, Kim Baldwin of Portland, Ore., and Letha Pearson and Trina Jo Kirkpatrick, both of Fort Worth; a brother. Bill Baldwin of Kerrville; two sisters, Maxine Wininger of Wichita Falls and Mary Barnes of Fort Worth; and 10 grandchildren.
John Bruton
1926-2000
RUIDOSO, N.M. -- John Harley Bruton of Ruidoso, former Snyder resident, died Monday, Oct. 2, in Ruidoso.
Services for Mr. Bruton, 73, are pending at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso,
He was born on Oct. 29, 1926 in Stephenville and was reared in Snyder.
Mr. Bruton served in the Navy in World War II and retired 20 years ago from Phillips 66 in Odessa as a cost analyzer. Following retirement, he moved to Ruidoso.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Crenshaw of Lancaster; his father, John L. Bruton of Weatherford; and one sister; Maxine Richardson of Weatherford.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Clinton Bruton.
Iris Bowlin
1925-2000
Funeral service is set for 1 p.m. Saturday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home for Iris Winifred Bowlin. Interment will follow in Snyder Cemetery. Fr. Dennis Bosley of Sweetwater St. Stephen’s Episcopal will officiate.
Mrs. Bowlin, 74, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at her home in Snyder after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1925 in Marsh Baldon Oxfordshire, England, she married Bill Bowlin on Feb. 3, 1945 in Marsh Baldon England, near Oxford. A longtime Snyder resident, she was associated with her husband in the operation of Texaco service stations in Snyder as well as a car wash that they owned and operated from 1982 to 1988.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Bowlin, in 1967.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Bowlin of Snyder; a son and daughter-in-law, Barrie and Debbie Bowlin of Snyder; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Paul Mikelonis of Mimbres, N.M., and Kay and Larry Rowe of Durango, Colo.; three sisters, Margaret Atkinson, Dora Pudwell and Vi Gardner, all of England; one brother, Denis Barrett of England; nine grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home at 5 p.m., today.

Born Sept. 26 in College Station, she died Monday, Oct. 2, in Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
Survivors include her parents, Shawn and Jodie Uptergrove; a twin sister, Kenzie Elizabeth Uptergrove of the home; her grandparents, Mike and Ann Uptergrove of Dunn and Ray and Jeanne Ellis of Colorado City; great-grandparents, H.E. and Phil Kelley of Snyder, Hubert and Laverna Uptergrove, Othal and Essie Pearl Ellis, all of Colorado City, and Ken and Bebe Johnson of Hobbs, N.M.; and her aunts and uncles, Casey and Stephanie Uptergrove, Jamie and Jason Newman and Jeff and Julie Ellis.
Richard Caldwell

ABILENE – Richard Gipson Caldwell, a former resident of Scurry County, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Caldwell, 71, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Stan Allcorn will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born Jan. 5, 1929 in Bronte, he attended school in Fluvanna. He worked in Snyder before moving to Abilene in the early 1950s where he was a transport driver for Southwest Coca Cola Bottling Co. He retired in 1992 and worked for West-Tex Industries.
A U.S. Army veteran, he married Patricia Morgan on April 2, 1955 in Abilene. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Caldwell of Abilene; a son, Ricky Caldwell of Clyde; a daughter, Debbie Miller of Hobbs, N.M.; a brother, Wayland Caldwell of Snyder; a sister, Verna Hicks of Taylor, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pat Ramsey
1927-2000
MONAHANS – Dayton Earl “Pat” Ramsey, a former Dowell employee in Snyder, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Ward County.
Funeral service for Mr. Ramsey, 73, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Untied Methodist Church in Monahans.
Born June 11, 1927 in Ben Hur, Tex., he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He married Mary Beth Tubbs on May 31, 1947 in Coleman.
A 1948 petroleum engineering graduate of Texas A&M University, Mr. Ramsey went to work for Dowell in Kermit as a service engineer. He moved through the ranks and served in Snyder, Midland, Hobbs and Tulsa. At age 29, he became manager of Dowell’s North American operations.
In 1959, Mr. Ramsey went into the oilfield servicing business for himself. He also was a partner in MR Oil Company.
Mr. Ramsey was a pilot, past-president of the Monahans Rotary Club and chairman of the board of the First State Bank in Monahans. He was former chairman of the Ward County Hospital board of managers and in 1981 was named Monahans citizen of the year. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Ramsey of Monahans; Dr. David Ramsey and Russell Ramsey; three daughters, Connie Hisel, Carol Hurst and Cynthia McGee; a brother, Dr. Harold Ramsey; and four sisters, Linda Payne, Dorothy Erwin, Mary Kemp and Carmen McKinney.
