Jim Davis
1943-2000
Graveside service for Jim Davis of Snyder is set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Snyder Cemetery. The Rev. Dave Phillips, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis, 57, died at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in University Medical Center in Lubbock after a brief illness.
Born on Feb. 12, 1943 in Alabama, he married Linda Tatom on July 3, 1969 in Snyder. Mr. Davis had worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years in the Snyder area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Verbie Davis; and one brother, Bobby Davis, all of Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis of Snyder; a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Bill McRea of Enterprise, Ala.; his mother-in-law, Louise Tatom of Snyder; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 this evening at Wright Colonial Funeral Home
Robert Graham
1928-2000
Robert H. Graham, father of Dr. Judith Dunham of Snyder, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, after a brief illness. He was 72.
Rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. in the Angelus Funeral Home in San Antonio. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday in St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Mr. Graham was born Aug. 31, 1928 in San Diego and he married Dolores Slavin on Aug. 25, 1949 in San Antonio. He attended Trinity University in San Antonio and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Graham retired in 1994 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 45 years service. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Graham; his mother, Elisa Graham; and his brother, Edward Graham
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael Graham of San Antonio, Patrick and Edilia Graham of San Antonio, Robert and Julie Graham of The Woodlands; a son-in-law, Dr. Michael Dunham of Snyder; two other daughters and another son-in-law, Cynthia Stenoien of Houston, and Beatrice and David Ramirez of San Antonio; a sister, June Tsakopulos of San Antonio; a mother-in-law, Beatrice Slavin of San Antonio; and 13 grandchildren including Erin and Andra Dunham of Snyder.
Henry Newman
1923-2000
Henry Newman, a native of Scurry County, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Windcrest Alzheimer Center in Abilene following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Newman, 77, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Ira Cemetery. F.R. “Bear” Williams will officiate.
Born Feb. 11, 1923 in Scurry County, Mr. Newman was a longtime Brownwood resident where he was a rancher and stock farmer. He was also a former resident of the Comanche and Cross Plains areas and lived in Big Spring for a time before moving to the Abilene care center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Newman; five sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jeffrey Harris of Campbell, Mich.; two sisters, Mozelle Lovell and Marciel Morris and her husband, Wayne, all of Big Spring.
Alice Head
1900-2000
Funeral service for Alice Head, a former Snyder resident, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Head’s son, K.S. Head Jr. of Milano, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Mrs. Head, 100, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Lubbock.
Born April 25, 1900 in Scurry County, she married Kleber S. Head on Jan. 10, 1919 in Snyder. He died in February, 1987.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters, two daughters and one son.
Mrs. Head was a retired farmer and rancher where she worked beside her husband for many years.
Survivors include three other sons, J.D. Head of Friona, Frank Head and Bill Head, both of Lubbock; two daughters, Neva Irene Clark of League City and Joan Head of Lovington, N.M.; two sisters, Ima Jewel Penn and Dollie Jones of Ogden, Utah; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Beatrice Bilberry
1908-2000
Funeral service for Beatrice Bilberry of Snyder is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Flomot. The Rev. Nathan Mulder, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Flomot Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Floydada.
She was the mother of Jean Richardson of Snyder.
Mrs. Bilberry, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Bilberry was born on April 15, 1908 in Shackleford County to William Harvey and Mary Ada Kelsey Giles. She married L.D. Bilberry on March 16, 1927 in Dickens County. He died May 5, 1985.
She also preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Dickinson and Nickie Loudermilk; five brothers; and six sisters.
Mrs. Bilberry moved to Lockney from Flomot in 1990 and to Snyder in 1996. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include another daughter, Joyce Speer of Floydada; eight grandchildren, Coel Winn, Linda Rains, Kay Nicole, Patsy Cannedy, Bill Turbyfill, Sue Stroud, Maria Kirkland and Mary Ann Galyean; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 this evening.
Dr. Pat Brecheen
1931-2000
LUBBOCK – Dr. Pat Brecheen, a former Snyder dentist, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Lubbock.
Graveside service for Dr. Brecheen, 68, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Fairmont Cemetery in Hollis, Okla. His brother, Carl Brecheen, a Church of Christ minister from Abilene, will officiate.
Born Oct. 22, 1931 in Hollis, he was a graduate of Hollis High School, Abilene Christian University and Baylor Dental School.
Dr. Brecheen had a dental office in Snyder from 1957 to 1965 when he moved his practice to Tahoka. He moved to Lubbock in 1970 and retired in 1999.
He was married to Mary Draper from 1953 to 1970. He married Berry Bergeron Smith in 1972. She died in 1993.
Survivors also include two sons, Cole Brecheen of Portland, Ore., and John Brecheen of Abilene; three stepsons, Billy Smith of Plano, Barry Smith of Hurst and Bobby Smith of Houston; a daughter, Jodie McClintock of Plainview; a stepdaughter, Brenda Pierce of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, June Cope of Hollis; four grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.
Emilie Hoepfl
1899-2000
Emilie Hoepfl, whose life span touched three centuries, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, in Snyder Oaks Care Center.
Rosary for Mrs. Hoepfl, 101, is set for 7 this evening in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass for Mrs. Hoepfl is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Latham officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermleigh Cemetery.
Born Aug. 18, 1899 in Moulton, Tex., she married Otto Hoepfl on April 25, 1919 in Moulton. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Hoepfl moved to the Hermleigh area in 1932, and was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Altar Society.
Mrs. Hoepfl was preceded in death by two sons, Henry and Roosevelt Hoepfl.
Survivors include six daughters, Rosemary Goebel of Hermleigh, Shirley Keen of Snyder, Jean Cagle of Brownwood, Maurine Russell of Bangs, Margaret Echols of Weatherford and Lillian Long of Early; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret Cole
1925-2000
Margaret Cole of Snyder died Sunday, Sept. 3, in Midland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Cole, 75, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Tom Holcomb, minister of the East Side Church of Christ, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery. The Rev. John Curry, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.
Born April 23, 1925 in Blackwell in Nolan County, she married Roy Cole on Nov. 29, 1942 in Rotan.
Mrs. Cole, a homemaker and a retired school cafeteria worker, was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Clifford, Kelly, Fred and L.D. Gaston; and by two sisters, Marie Romine and Baby Girl Gaston.
Survivors include her husband, Roy T. Cole of Snyder, a son, Roy Cole of Waco; two daughters, Carolyn May of Snyder and Marjorie Woodard of Austin; a sister, Beulah Chapman of Blackwell; a brother, G. K. Gaston of Blackwell; five grandchildren, Jimmy Thomas Cole of Odessa, Amy Woodard-Menchaca and Jeremy Woodard, both of Austin, Roy David Cole and Candace Louise Cole, both of Waco; and a stepgrandson, David Bruce of Reagan, Tex.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
