Travis Inman
1918-2000
Travis Inman, a former resident of Snyder, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, in Tahoka.
Funeral service for Mr. Inman, 81, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Tahoka with the Rev. Charlie Stice officiating.
Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.
Born Dec. 20, 1918 in Chillicothe, he attended school in Southward County and in Tahoka. He married Susimaye Reep on May 30, 1941 in Snyder. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Inman moved from Snyder to Tahoka in 1947 and was employed by Lyntegar Electric until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Lynn County Sheriff’s Posse, Tahoka Rodeo Association and the Sweet Street Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Susiemay Inman of Tahoka; two sons, Joe Inman of Eugene, Ore. and Wyndell Inman of Colorado City; a daughter, Nancy Gulliams of Tahoka; two sisters, Nora Bell Wood of Tahoka and Mary Ellen James of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Martha Freytag
1913-2000
ABILENE – Martha Pilsner Freytag, a former Scurry County resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the Windcrest Alzheimer’s Care Center in Abilene.
Rosary for Mrs. Freytag, 87, is set for 7 this evening in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Moulton.
Graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Moulton.
Born in Lavaca County, was reared there and married Anton Freytag in 1937. He preceded her in death.
They farmed in the Hermleigh area until his retirement in 1976 when the family moved to Sweetwater.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Freytag of Gilbert, Ariz. and Jimmy Freytag of Coppell; two daughters, Barbara Harvel of Little Rock, Ark. and Dorothy McKenzie of Abilene; a brother, Ed Pilsner of Moulton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Lanora Wallace
1915-2000
MUNDAY – Lanora Wallace, a native of Scurry County, died Thursday, Sept. 21, in a Sweetwater hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Wallace, 85, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Munday Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Born in Scurry County, she married Carl Wallace in 1932 and he died in 1981.
Mrs. Wallace had lived in Munday for 58 years before moving to Anson. A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Polk and Carolyn Reeves, both of Hawley, Pat Alredge of San Angelo and Fonda Crawford of Sweetwater; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Chester Simons
1924-2000
Chester Simons, former Snyder police chief, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, in Henryetta Medical Center.
Funeral service for Mr. Simons, 75, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church. He will receive full military honors with the Ft. Sill Honor Guard giving a 21-gun salute. Funeral service is under the direction of Robert Simons Funeral Home and K.L. VanMeter and Rodney George will officiate.
Born on Nov. 2, 1924 in Wolf City, he married Mary Louise in Marion, Tex., in March, 1942. He was reared in Waco and served in World War II. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern one bronze star and one silver star, the medal of good conduct and three overseas bars.
After the war, Mr. Simons again entered the field of professional boxing, leaving his career ranked third in the nation. Mr. Simons spent 26 years in law enforcement in Texas and Oklahoma and served as police chief in Snyder from 1961-1967.
He moved to Henryetta in 1984 and founded the Henryetta PeeWee Football League. He spent many hours in civic ventures and had served as city manager in Stroud, Chickasha, Mario and Henryetta.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Simons of the home; three sons, Chester Simons Jr., Jerry Dwain Simons and Robert Simons; one daughter, Lynda Louise Williams; two brothers, James Simons and Floyd Simons; one sister, Louise Kirk; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Henryetta High School Football team will be pallbearers.
Leda Beck
1928-2000
Leda Jean Beck of Snyder died Sunday, Sept. 24, in Midland’s Manor Park following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Beck, 72, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor of Colonial Hill Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born May 27, 1928 in Vernon, she married Richard Beck on March 7, 1947 in Vernon. Mr. Beck died March 20, 1993.
A homemaker, Mrs. Beck was a member of the Colonial Hill Baptist Church and was active in the Scurry County Senior Center.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Hix and Catherine Flynn.
Survivors include a son, Johnny Beck of Midland; a daughter, Pamela Jean Ronemus of Midland; two sisters, Dorothy Roland of Canyon and Betty Kiselwick of Electra; two brothers, Jack Skipworth of Clyde and Kenneth Skipworth of Abilene; four grandchildren; Kristen LeMay of Buffalo Gap, Johna Swopes, Jeana Clary and Clint Beck, all of Midland; and three great-grandsons, Jaiden, Josh and C.W.; and a special friend, Manley Burrow of Snyder.

Josie Martinez
1953-2000

Funeral service for Mrs. Martinez, 47, was set for 10 a.m. today in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Elbert A. Fadallan, pastor, officiating. Burial was to follow in the Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 31, 1953 in Snyder, she had attended Plainview schools and was a Catholic.
Survivors include three daughters, Ramona Lopez, Crystal Martinez and Christina Martinez, all of Plainview; a son, Franky Martinez of Plainview; four brothers, Ray Martinez of Hereford, Danny Martinez of Olton, Johnny Martinez and Jesse Martinez, both of Plainview; three sisters, Janie Larsen and Lupe Arroyo, both of Plainview, and Patsy Hernandez of Midland; and four grandchildren.
Jack Thompson
1921-2000
W.S. “Jack” Thompson, a native of Scurry County, died this morning in the VA Medical Center in Big Spring following a lengthy illness.
Services for Mr. Thompson, 79, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born June 2, 1921 in Ira, Mr. Thompson was a retired employee of Brooks Well Service. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack Thompson

Graveside service for W.S. “Jack” Thompson is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Ira Cemetery. The Rev. James Merrell, retired Methodist minister, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Thompson, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, in VA Medical Center in Big Spring following a lengthy illness.
Born June 2, 1921 in Ira, he served in the 330th Infantry Division in Patton’s Third Army. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion, Mr. Thompson was retired from Brooks Well Service and was a Methodist.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tanis Pesina
1917-2000
FLOYDADA -- Funeral service for Tanis Pesina of Plains, sister of Josefina Cervantes of Snyder, was set for 3 p.m. Sunday in the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Floydada. The Revs. Alejandro Ruiz Jr. and Pedro Reyes were to officiate and burial was to follow in Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pesina, 82, died Friday, Sept. 22, at her residence.
Born on Nov. 9, 1917 in San Saba County, she married Tiodoro Garza in October, 1934 in San Saba. He preceded her in death in 1968. She moved to Plains from Floydada in 1999. Mrs. Pesina was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and Templo Gethsemane Assembly of God.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Joe Lupe Garza, and a brother, Paul Asebedo.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sandy Garza of Floydada; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Christina Guzman of Floydada, Anita and Ernesto Rocha of Plainview, Nickie and Isaias Jimenez of Plains, and Mary G. and Paco Garcia of Floydada; three brothers, Raymond Asebedo of Midland, Johnny Asebedo of Silverton and Frank Asebedo of Fort Worth; another sister, Justa Juarez of Silverton; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
