Bill Martin
1917-2000
COLORADO CITY – Funeral service for Bill Martin, 83, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Martin, a former resident of Scurry County, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Mitchell County Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1917 in Robert Lee, he grew up in the Dunn area and married Vergie Shoffner on Oct. 8, 1937 in Dunn.
Mr. Martin worked as a warehouseman for Halliburton for 20 years before retiring. He moved to Colorado City 12 years ago and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vergie Martin of Colorado City; a son and daughter-in-law, Buck Paul and Nancy Martin of Summerville, Ala.; a son-in-law and his wife, Dale and Leslie Geiger of Colorado City; a sister, Nettie Faye Glaspie of Marble Falls; two brothers, I.E. Martin of Snyder and Frank Martin of Lufkin; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Geiger; his parents, John W. and Kathy Gary Martin; and three brothers, Charlie Martin, Herbert Martin and Joe Martin.
Leila Darlin
1914-2000
Funeral service for Leila B. Seaton Darlin, a resident of Scurry County since 1976, is set for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Tom Holcomb, minister of the East Side Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Mrs. Darlin, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at her home in Snyder, following a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1914 in McCaulley, she married Walter D. Darlin on Nov. 27, 1932 in Spur. He died on March 15, 1977.
Mrs. Darlin was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She lived in Lubbock and Brownfield before moving to Snyder where she was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Era Bratcher.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Cynthia Darlin of Snyder and Walter Bruce and Mary Lou Darlin of Burleson; two sisters, Cora Rose Jones of San Angelo and Julie Woodard of Brownfield; four brothers, B.D. Seaton, J.C. Seaton, Ira E. Seaton and Bradley Seaton, all of Brownfield; three grandchildren, Sherry Hernandez of The Colony, Kenneth Wayne Darlin of Lubbock and Casandra Darlin of Snyder; and two great-grandchildren, Amber Hernandez and Michael Hernandez, both of The Colony.
Cleone Fulford

Cleone Fulford, longtime Fluvanna resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Lubbock following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Fulford, 79, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Fluvanna Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Fluvanna Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born July 25, 1921 in Gatesville, she married Ray Fulford on Jan. 7, 1939 in Clariot, Tex.
A resident of Fluvanna since 1939, Mrs. Fulford was a beautician and a member of the Fluvanna First Baptist Church and Quilting Club.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar Kinsey, David Kinsey and D.D. Kinsey; and one sister, Leona Markham.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Fulford of Fluvanna; a son, Victor Fulford of Lubbock; three brothers, Ellis Kinsey of Stephenville, Wesley Kinsey of Robert Lee and Arvin Kinsey of Dallas; three grandchildren, Lance Fulford, Xan Fulford and Jai Fulford; and three great-grandchildren, Hagen Fulford, Braxton Fulford and Candra Fulford.
Verna Crawford
1905-2000
Verna Mary Crawford, a resident of Snyder the past 38 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Crawford, 95, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Colonial Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Miller Robinson, retired minister, and Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born June 24, 1905 in Comanche, she married Brad Crawford on March 11, 1929 in Brownwood. He died in 1962.
A former resident of Lubbock and Seminole, Mrs. Crawford moved to Snyder in 1962. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher in Seminole and also taught Sunday school a number of years at the Greenhill Baptist Church in Snyder.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Brad Crawford Jr.; a grandson, Brett Bell; four sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bob Bell of Snyder; four grandsons, Bruce Bell of Midland, Lance Crawford of Kerrville, Dr. Kevin Crawford of Lubbock and Kyle Crawford of Brownsville; seven great-grandchildren, Amber LaMonte of Hempstead, Josh Bell of Jacksonville, Fla., Cheyenne Crawford and Keylon Crawford, both of Kerrville, Colin Crawford, Kylie Crawford and Cadan Crawford, all of Lubbock; and one great-great-grandson, Corwin LaMonte of Hempstead.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Bell, Josh Bell, Lance Crawford, Dr. Kevin Crawford, Kyle Crawford and George W. Ellis.
Gladys Wade

Gladys Ida Wade, a former resident of Snyder, died today in Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Okla., following a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Wade, 94, is set for 4 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church Chapel in Snyder with a son, the Rev. John Wade of Abilene, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born March 10, 1906 in Merkel, she married Anthem Wade on June 4, 1939 in Roscoe. Mrs. Wade, a homemaker, moved to Snyder in 1983 and had moved to Weatherford, Okla. She and her husband were missionaries on the Indian reservations in Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband, Anthem Wade of Corn; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Ron Rooker of Weatherford, Okla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Wade of Lake Kiowa, Tex., and the Rev. John and Ann Wade of Abilene; two sisters, Pat Keeth of Weslaco and Ruth Wiman of San Angelo; two brothers, Talmadge Wiman of Sweetwater and Jim Wiman of Lubbock; and two sisters-in-law, Bird Wade of Snyder and Gladys Shaw of Abilene.
John Nix
1972-2000
LEWISVILLE – John Paul Nix, the grandson of Alma Laurence Gladson of Snyder, died Sunday, Sept. 24, at his home in Highland Village from injuries sustained in a 1990 automobile accident.
Funeral service for Mr. Nix, 27, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville.
Born Dec. 16, 1972 in Dallas, he was a 1994 graduate of Marcus High School in Flower Mound.
Survivors include his parents, John and Rene’e Nix of Highland Village; a sister, Kristie York of Denton; a brother, Zachary Nix of Longview; and a great-grandmother, Gladys Bond of Eastland.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wayland Gladson of Snyder; and his paternal grandmother, Dorris Nix Duff of Snyder.
Patsy Zimmerman
1934-2000
AMHERST – Patsy Lenora Spradling Zimmerman, a native of Scurry County, died Monday, Sept. 25, in White Dove Nursing Home in Littlefield.
Funeral service for Mrs. Zimmerman, 66, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Amherst with George Wayne Davis officiating. Burial was to follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Born June 6, 1934 in Scurry County, she grew up in the Hermleigh area and lived in Bangs for 15 years where she worked in a restaurant and for a child protective agency. She moved to Meridian in 1994 and to Littlefield in 1998. She was a seamstress, homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Po Davis of Haskell; a daughter, Sue Montgomery of Amherst; a sister, Leona Renfro of Austin; four brothers, Jim Spradling of Reno, Nev., Donnie Spradling of Redwood, Calif., and Bick Spradling and Johnny Spradling, both of Meridian; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Guillermo Espinosa
1968-2000
ELDORADO –Guillermo Espinosa Jr. of Austin died Monday, Sept. 25, in Austin.
Graveside service for Mr. Espinosa, 32, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Eldorado Cemetery.
Born Aug. 16, 1968 in Grant, Neb., Mr. Espinosa was employed as a waiter.
Survivors include his mother, Manuela R. Espinosa of Snyder; three sisters, Annaberta Hoxsey of Snyder, Anna Maria Rangel of Abilene and Lori Perez of The Woodlands; three brothers, Tony Martinez and Isidora Martinez, both of Eldorado, and Ernest Rangel of Victoria.
Sue Trice
1915-2000
Sue Belle Teaff Trice, longtime Snyder resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Trice, 85, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Craig Curry, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born April 27, 1915 in Knox City, she had resided in the Snyder area since 1922. A graduate of Hermleigh High School, her family lived in the Camp Springs community, and moved to Snyder in 1965.
She married J.T. Trice on Dec. 28, 1936. He died Dec. 10, 1999.
Mrs. Trice was the bookkeeper at C.R. Anthony’s for 35 years.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Hayley Sunday School Class. She was active in the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center and she and her husband were active in Senior Citizens dances in the Big Country. Also, she was a member of the Altruian Study Club.
Mrs. Trice also was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. and Sarah Lou Markham Teaff; three sisters, Madge Derryberry, LaTrece Henderson and Edna Earl Teaff; and three brothers, J.B. “Shorty” Teaff, Garland Teaff and Little Rob Teaff.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Gene Vernon of Snyder; one son, Jerry Trice of Chicago, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Inez Teaff of Snyder; one sister, Betty Jo Stiffler of Topeka, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Cloma Teaff of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Carman Carpenter of Snyder, Richard Trice of Dallas, Jerilynn Trice of Houston, Tyler Trice of Chicago; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Carpenter of Snyder.
Friends are making memorials to the Scurry County Senior Center, 2603 Ave. M, or to the First United Methodist Church, 2700 College Ave.
