Eula Maupin
1923-2001
Eula Virginia Maupin, former Ira resident, died Tuesday, March 20, in Mimbrea Memorial Nursing Home in Deming.
Graveside service for Mrs. Maupin, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the Ira Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 17, 1923 in Ira to E.D. and Una Jones Holdren, she was a 1942 graduate of Ira High School. She married I.E. “Red” Maupin on April 14, 1955 in the Knapp Baptist Church and lived in Ira until 1980.
She resided in Ranger from 1980 to 1994 when she moved to Deming. Mrs. Maupin was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Red Maupin; two sisters, Ila Cox and Lola Huddleston; and by five brothers, Lewis, Delmer, Onice, Roy and J.W. Holdren.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Jay Yates of Deming; one sister, Ellie Brown of Midland; and three grandchildren, Amber, Ira and Zay Yates of Deming.
Family visitation is set from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
A pot-luck dinner will be held at the Ira Baptist Church following the service.
Pallbearers will be Bud House, Corky Kruse, Robert Irwin, Bobby Stokes, Tommy Sterling, Darryl Calley and Lance Autrey.
Ms. Hulslander
1971-1998
COLORADO CITY – A memorial service for Daytina Rhea Blair Hulslander, a former Snyder resident, is set for 6 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hulslander had been missing since April, 1998 and her remains were found southeast of Midland last Feb. 28.
Born Aug. 21, 1971, she was a resident of Colorado City when she was reported missing.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rodney “Rocky” Blair; her grandparents, Paul and Corienne “Janie” Makurin and Louis and Louise Blair; and her aunt, Paula Alberts.
Survivors include three sons, Dakota Cliff Blair, Kenneth Aaron Blair and Randall Todd Blair, all of Colorado City; two daughters, Corienna Deann Hulslander and Dreamer Cathlynn Hulslander, both of Mildand; her mother, Elfie Ratliff of Colorado City; her brother, Todd White of Kermit; her aunts, Lunita Fryer of Big Spring and Louise Richardson of Austin; four nieces, Danni Lee and Samantha White, both of Colorado City, Summer White of Hermleigh and Catrina Rich of Kermit; two nephews, Buddy White and Terry Rich, both of Kermit.
Other special survivors are Dianne Nelson and Debbie Yandrich, both of Big Spring; Dorothy Loyd, Gabby Scott and Dianna Ballard, all of Snyder; Paula Alberts, Shirley Smith, Mary Riley and Tommy and Jane Cooper, all of Colorado City; Perry Keith Donnell and Ronnie Sumerald, both of Midland.
Willie Mann
1913-2001
AMARILLO – Willie Mae Mann, a former Scurry County resident, died Tuesday, March 20, in Amarillo.
Service for Mrs. Mann, 87, was held today in the Central Church of Christ with Paul Sneed, associate minister, officiating. Burial was to follow in the Llano Cemetery.
Born March 27, 1913 in Ardmore, Okla., she married Bill Mann in July, 1989 in Amarillo. She grew up in Scurry County and was a longtime resident of Amarillo and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Mann of Amarillo; a sister, Hazel Morton of Amarillo and formerly of Snyder; and five brothers, A.G. Flippin, Ray Flippin, Harold Flippin and Bob Flippin, all of Amarillo, and Gene Flippin of Brownwood.
Martha Crosson
1935-2001
Martha Gayle McCarver Crosson, a native of Scurry County, died Friday, March 23, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Crosson, 66, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Miller Robinson, retired Baptist minister, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born March 22, 1935 in Snyder, she was married to Jerry McCarver who died in 1993. A resident of Santa Anna, Calif., she was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Hilton Cary, in 1956.
Survivors include a son, Cary Coffee of Snyder; three daughters, Debra Jones of Odessa, Kim Phillips of Dumfries, Va., and Penni Coffee of Brady; her mother, Mary Belle Cary of Brownwood; two sisters, Mary Lou Taylor of Tempe, Ariz., and Pat Cloud of Austin; Jimmy Crosson of Santa Anna; and seven grandchildren.
Nevil Stevenson
1942-2001
ROBY – Nevil Gene Stevenson, the brother of Nomi Almquist of Dunn, died Thursday, March 22, in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Stevenson, 58, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church in Roby. The Revs. Jerry Williams, Norman Burgess and Brandon Young will officiate. Burial will follow in the McCaulley Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 4, 1942 in Rotan, he married Sarah Young on May 7, 1962 in Snyder.
A longtime resident of Fisher County, Mr. Stevenson worked in the oilfields and in agriculture and was a member of the Sylvester Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Sibyl Stevenson; and a sister, Bonnie Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Stevenson of Roby; two daughters, Marci Mayes of Coleman and Gena Stevenson of Roby; two sons, Scott Stevenson of Roby and Todd Stevenson of McCaulley; two other sisters, Jo Rogers of Odessa and Ritzy Hodges of Abilene; and eight grandchildren.
Ruby Neves
1935-2001
Ruby Lois Neves, longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, March 24, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Service for Mrs. Neves, 65, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Hill Baptist Church. Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor, and the Rev. Miller Robinson, retired pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born on Oct. 31, 1935 in Fisher County, she married Roy “Curley” Neves on Nov. 8, 1952 in Hobbs, Tex. A Snyder resident since 1965, she was a retired secretary for the Adult Probation Office.
Mrs. Neves was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie Adams, Troy Adams and T.C. Adams Jr.; and three sisters, Nancy Adams, Pauline McAlpine and Mildred Hopper.
Survivors include her husband, Roy “Curley” Neves of the home; four sons, Larry Neves of Snyder, Nicky Neves of Levelland, Toby Neves of Weatherford, Okla., and Tracy Neves of Jonesboro, Ark.; a daughter, Kimberly Gambol of Snyder; two brothers, Gerald Adams of Midland and Herman Adams of Martindale; three sisters, Louise Johnson of Abilene, Doris Metcalf of Tulia and Maurine Lay of Odessa; and 14 grandchildren.

Dessie Harvel

Dessie Harvel, former longtime Snyder resident, died Saturday, March 24, in Midland.
Service for Mrs. Harvel, 81, was held this morning in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C. Lane Boyd, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside service was set for 3 p.m. today in Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield, officiated by the Brownfield American Legion.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home in Midland.
Mrs. Harvel, reared and educated in Cross Plains, married John Rankin Blackburn on Sept. 5, 1942 in El Paso. She moved to Brownfield in 1950 and to Snyder in 1972. She has lived in Midland the past two years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Rankin Blackburn; a brother, Vernon Huntington; and a sister, Bonnie Timora.
Survivors include her son, John Blackburn of Austin; a daughter, Deanna Salmon of Midland; a brother, James Huntington of Arlington; a sister, Alona Gilbert and a step-daughter, Frances Dupuy, both of Austin; seven grandchildren, Barry Salmon, Stephanie Salmon, Tim Salmon, Bo Blackburn, Kimberlee Blackburn, Bobby Blackburn, Crystal Dupuy, and one great-grandchild, Jack Blackburn, who served as honorary pallbearers.
Juana Silva
1905-2001
Juana Perez Silva, 96, of Snyder died Monday, March 26, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Silva was born on March 8, 1905 in Zacatecas, Mexico. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Victoria Silva of Snyder and Maria Acosta of Chicago, Ill.; and two sons, Lucio Silva of Garden City, Kan., and Lupe Silva of Abilene.
Doyle Gray Sr.
1905-2001
Funeral service for C. Doyle Gray Sr., a longtime Scurry County resident, is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Gray, 95, died Wednesday, March 28, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born June 16, 1905 in East Texas, he moved from Bonham to Mitchell County in 1927 and to Dunn in 1944 . He married Alma Hester on Sept. 28, 1928, and she died June 9, 1961. He married Nora Williamson on May 30, 1964.
He was a longtime Scurry County farmer, retiring about 10 years ago. Mr. Gray was a Baptist.
He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Gray Porter.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Gray of Snyder; two sons, Don Gray and C.D. Gray Jr. and his wife, Donna, all of Snyder; two stepsons, Gene Williamson of Colorado and Ronnie Williamson and his wife, Diana, of Snyder; three granddaughters, Sandee Ratliff of Rowlett, Pam Reed of Snyder and Donna Rosson of Odessa; five great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
