Robert Clayton
1915-2002
Robert Allen Clayton, a resident of Snyder since 1963, died Monday, April 8, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Clayton, 87, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Dale Huff, minister of the 37th Street Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in Snyder Cemetery.
Born Feb. 12, 1915 in Austin, he married Ester Bailey on Sept. 3, 1938 in Cameron. Mr. Clayton was a retired farm worker and was a member of the 37th Street Church of Christ. He moved from Cameron to Tahoka in 1958 and then to Snyder in 1963.
One sister and two half sisters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ester Clayton of Snyder; three daughters, Estelle Young of Dallas, Velma Clay and Melinda Simmons, both of Snyder; nine sons, William Clayton and Arthur Clayton of Snyder, James Earl Clayton, Curtis Clayton and Roy Clayton, all of Lubbock, Robert Clayton Jr. of Austin, O.D. Clayton of Dallas, DeWayne Clayton of Brownfield and Billy Clayton of Henryetta, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Louise Williamson
1924-2002
SAN ANGELO – A memorial service for Louise Williamson, the sister of Patsy Taylor of Snyder, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Roenfeldt officiating.
Mrs. Williamson, 77, died Wednesday, April 3, in Odessa.
Born June 2, 1924 in Bogota, she married E.W. Williamson in Snyder and he died in 1998.
A resident of San Angelo since 1997, she was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include one brother and his wife, Rayford and Joyce McDowell of Odessa; another sister and her husband, Joann and Dale McCorkle of Odessa; a brother-in-law, Lawton Taylor of Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burt Smith
1957-2002
A private funeral service was held Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Midland for Burt Allen Smith, a former Snyder resident.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, April 10, at his home in Midland.
Born on July 9, 1957 in Snyder, he attended schools in Snyder and was a self-employed welder. He was also an avid guitar player.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Madia Franks Smith; and a brother, Michael Grevan Smith.
He is survived by a son, Casey Allen Smith of Snyder; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Maria Frausto
1937-2002
Maria Frausto of Snyder died Thursday, April 11, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Rosary for Mrs. Frausto, 65, is set for 7 this evening in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel and burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
She married Vic Frausto in 1969 in Snyder. Mrs. Frausto was a homemaker and had worked at Dickies Work Clothes Rental.
A brother, Jesse Alvarez, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Vic Frausto of Snyder; two sisters, Socorro Chaidez of Snyder and Ramona Alvarez of Abilene; and two brothers, Lorenzo Alvarez and Joe Alvarez, both of Snyder.
Jerry Portwood
1938-2002
SLATON – Jerry Portwood, a former resident of Snyder, died Wednesday, April 10.
Graveside service for Mr. Portwood, 63, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Englewood Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Harlin officiating.
Born June 25, 1938 in Stamford, he married Judy Housman on Oct. 15, 1972 in Oregon. He moved to Lubbock in 1974 and to Snyder in 1999, returning to Slaton in 2001.
He was the meat market manager for United in Slaton for 10 years and also butchered in Oregon and for Simmons Meat Market in Slaton.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Portwood of Slaton; two sons, Terry Wylie of Mission and Dewayne Matlock of Shelton, Wash.; four daughters, Nora Yackley of Parker, Ariz., Jane Seaberg of Tumwater, Wash., Tammy Prindle of Levelland and Kim Moorehead of Tenino, Wash.; a sister, Linda Turner of Ira; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Garnet Quiett
1914-2002
Garnet Quiett, a former Scurry County resident, died Saturday, April 13, in a Vernon hospital.
Graveside service for Mrs. Quiett, 88, was set for 11 a.m. today in the Dunn Cemetery. The Rev. James Merrill, Methodist minister, was to officiate. Arrangements were under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 26, 1914 In Hasse, Tex., she married Houston Quiett on Dec. 16, 1933 in Dunn. He died in 1991. She also was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Pearlie Finley McDearmon; three sisters; and a brother.
A homemaker, Mrs. Quiett was a member of the Poetry Society of Texas and had several works published. She also was a member of the Poetry Club of Scurry County and was an office holder.
A member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Snyder, Mrs. Quiett moved to Vernon on April 1, 1999. She was a member of the Lydia Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in Vernon.
Survivors include a son, Howard Quiett of Vernon; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cora Nance
1924-2002
ABILENE – Cora Nance, a former resident of Snyder, died Friday, April 12.
Funeral service for Mrs. Nance, 77, was set for 10 a.m. today in the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid and the Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating. Burial was to follow in the DFW National Cemetery.
Born April 20, 1924 in Granger, she was married to Hugh Winsett Nance for 56 years.
The family lived in Snyder, Odessa, Big Spring, Tyler and Abilene. She retired in 1985 from Wausau Insurance Co. in Abilene.
A member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, she was a former member of the Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler and also a member of the Eager Beaver Good Sam Club.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Nance of Abilene; a daughter, Judy Satterwhite of Arlington; a son, Greg Nance of Tyler; a sister, Alice Johnson of Elgin; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Angelia Allen
1962-2002
Angelia Wallace Allen, Snyder native, died Sunday, April 14, in Tyler.
Service for Mrs. Allen, 39, of Carthage is set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dale Reed will officiate. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Born Aug. 15, 1962 in Snyder, she attended Carthage Schools and was a Baptist. She was owner and operator of Lone Star Grill.
She is preceded in death by her father, Arnold Wallace; and her grandparents, R ay and Agnes Taylor and E.E. Wallace.
Survivors include her mother, Pat Wallace of Carthage; her grandmother, Norma Wallace of Post; three daughters, Nicole Ray Wills, Amanda Lyn Wills and Kaitlin Alexandria Allen, all of Carthage; a brother, Arnold Shaun Wallace of Carthage; a sister, Kandi White of Carthage; a grandson, Koden Wallace Wills; two aunts and uncles, Gordon and Betty Taylor and Richard and Judy Alexander; and three nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.

Loyd O. Webb
1912-2002
Funeral service for Loyd Ottis Webb, 89, was set for 10 a.m. today in the Ira Baptist Church. Kevin Huddleston, a minister with the Johnson Street Church of Christ in San Angelo, was to officiate. Burial was to follow in the Ira Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Webb, a lifelong resident of Scurry County, died Friday, March 29, in Marcy House Retirement Center in Big Spring after a lengthy illness.
Born April 9, 1912 in the China Grove community, he married Ida Mae Lloyd on Sept. 22, 1934 in Snyder.
Mr. Webb worked for Amerada Hess Oil Co. for 14 years and then worked in the maintenance department for the Ira and Snyder schools for a number of years.
An avid sports booster, Mr. Webb was a member of the Ira Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Webb of Snyder; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Terry Webb of Snyder; and two granddaughters, Whitney Webb of Midland and Britney Webb of Snyder.
A son and a brother preceded him in death.
