Elizabeth Duncan
1925-2002
Funeral service for Emma Elizabeth Duncan is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the East Side Church of Christ. Tom Holcomb, minister, will officiate. Interment will be in the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio and arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Duncan, 76, died Saturday, March 30, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Born Sept. 19, 1925 in Denton County, she was reared in Wink and married William Floyd Duncan on Oct. 12, 1942 in Carlsbad, N.M.
Mrs. Duncan had lived in Post from 1955 to 1979 and was chief deputy in the Garza County district and county clerk’s office for 19 years. She moved to Snyder in 1979 and was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, William Floyd Duncan of Snyder; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Ronald Simpson of Abilene; a son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Lin Duncan of Live Oak, Tex.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Friends are contributing to the Bear Valley Bible Institute, 2707 South Lamar in Denver, Colo., 80277.
Levi Greer
1918-2002
HASKELL – Levi Queston Greer, a former resident of Snyder, died Friday, March 29, in a Haskell nursing home.
A funeral service for Mr. Greer, 83, was set for 3 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating. Masonic graveside rites were to follow in the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Born Sept. 11, 1918 in Limestone County, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Greer was retired from Amoco Pipeline Co. and was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tinka and D.W. Nelson of Coleman; a son, Joel Greer of Lubbock; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to the Hospice of the Big Country or to a favorite charity.
Eileen West
1925-2002
Emily Eileen West, a longtime resident of Scurry County, died Saturday, March 30, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. West, 76, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Roy Rosson, minister of the Dunn Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery.
Born Dec. 9, 1925 in Fisher County, she married Charlie West on Dec. 15, 1951 in Sweetwater. A resident of Scurry County for the past 48 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Dunn Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie West of Dunn; a daughter, Janet Botts of Hermleigh; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sophie West of Lubbock and Larry and Lori West of Hermleigh; two granddaughters, Amy Botts and Valerie West, both of Hermleigh.
Friends are contributing to the Dunn Cemetery Association in Dunn, 79516.
Bill Hibbs
1926-2002
William Ray “Bill” Hibbs died Thursday, April 4, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Hibbs, 75, is set for 9 a.m. Saturday in the Colonial Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Culwell, pastor, officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 27, 1926 in Wichita Falls, he graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in 1943 and attended Hardin Jr. College in Wichita Falls before attending Texas A&M University and Western Texas College.
He entered the military on May 11, 1944, serving in the 96th Infantry Division in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Johnnye Joyce Claer on Nov. 21, 1944 in Wichita Falls. He taught technical vocation school in Wichita Falls for 17 years and retired from The Texas Pipeline Company in 1987 after 21 years as an electrical supervisor.
He was a Panther Kid baseball coach in Wichita Falls for 15 years, had been a Mason since 1947 and was a member of the Faith Lodge No. 1158 in Wichita Falls, York Rite Bodies, Maskat Temple Shrine and Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce C. Hibbs of Snyder; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Garry Lake of San Angelo; a son and daughter-in-law, William R. Hibbs II and Vickie of Belton; a sister, Doris Perry of Fort Worth; and four grandchildren, Melissa Lake and Brian Lake of San Angelo, Brent Hibbs of Lubbock and Jeff Hibbs of Waco.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Hibbs.
Pallbearers will be Norris Lofton, Bud House, Van Conard, Cy Miller, Richard Hardin, James Lay, Jack Denman, Lloyd Knipe, Jim Palmer and Harry Krenek.
Louise Williamson
1924-2002
DALLAS – Emma Louise Williamson, the sister of Patsy Taylor of Snyder, died Wednesday, April 3, in the Hospice House in Odessa.
Services for Mrs. Williamson, 77, are pending at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Born June 2, 1924 in Bogota, she had lived in San Angelo since 1997, moving from Ft. Clark in Bracketville. A graduate of Snyder High School, Mrs. Williamson was a Baptist and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. Williamson, in 1998; and her parents, W.E. and Lula Mae McDowell.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Rayford and Joyce McDowell of Odessa; and another sister, Joann McCorkle of Odessa; a brother-in-law, Lawton Taylor of Snyder; numerous nieces and nephews, including Carrie Richardson of Snyder and Cynthia Davis of Columbia, S.C. and formerly of Snyder.
Laverne Everitt
1924-2002
VICTORIA -- Laverne Hardin Everitt, former Snyder resident, died Wednesday, March 13.
Service for Mrs. Everitt, 77, of Victoria was held Saturday in Colonial Funeral Home and interment followed in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
veritt owned Floral Arts by Laverne in Victoria and was a member of the College Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Ray F. and Martha Woody Hardin.
Survivors include her husband, Karl Everitt of Victoria; three sons, David Everitt of San Antonio, Danny Everitt and Randy Everitt, both of Houston; a sister, Louise Hardin Hamlin of Dallas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Faustina Castillo
1907-2002
Faustina Castillo, 94, died Monday, April 15, at her home in Snyder after a lengthy illness.
Rosary for Mrs. Castillo is set for 7 this evening at Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Salome Barrera officiating.
Funeral service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Leo Moras officiating. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Dec. 17, 1907 in San Vicente, she married Raymon Castillo on Dec. 25, 1924 in Fort Stockton. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Manuel Castillo of Midland and Fred Castillo and Lee Castillo of Snyder; eight daughters, Millie Thompson and Gloria Tercero of Snyder, Dora Gonzales of Midland, Margie Rivera and Abbie Garcia of Lubbock, Arlene Cortinas of Odessa, Helen Hall of Fort Worth, and Josephine Alvarez of Sunnyvale, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Willa Forbus
1923-2002
WHITEHOUSE – Willa Dean Forbus, the sister of Cecil Mearse of Snyder, died Thursday, April 11, in a Tyler hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Forbus, 79, was held Monday in Whitehouse.
A service is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Loraine with the Revs. Orvel Brantley and G.A. McGee officiating. Interment will follow in the Loraine Cemetery.
Born March 6, 1923 in Mitchell County, she had lived in Loraine most of her life and was a member of the Loraine First Baptist Church. She worked in the family upholstery business.
She moved to Whitehouse two years ago where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a teachers’ aide with the STEP program at Cain Elementary.
Her husband, Calvin M. Forbus; a brother, Nathan Mearse; and two sisters, Ora Richburg and Esta Black, preceded her in death.
Survivors also include a daughter, Marilyn Davis of Whitehouse; a sister, Geneal Caswell of Austin; and two grandchildren.
David Stafford Jr.
1937-2002
AMARILLO -- David Lee Stafford Jr., brother of Jerry Don Stafford of Snyder, died Saturday, April 13.
Memorial services for Mr. Stafford, 64, will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Mr. Stafford graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1957 and served in the Air Force.
Survivors also include a daughter, Kim Fitzgerald of Houston; three sisters, Dee Evans of Aberdean, Wash., Betty Stone of Perryton and Mary Lou Hoosier of Lubbock; and two grandchildren.
