LAKE JACKSON -- Vivian Rose Black Bachus of Rockport died Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Plantation Healthcare Center in Lake Jackson after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Bachus, 81, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Jackson. Deacon Wallace Shaw will officiate. Cremation was requested.
Born June 26, 1920 in Oklahoma, she was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and animals.
Mrs. Bachus was preceded in death by her parents, Leanord and Mable Ruthardt, and her first husband, John Black.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Douglas Bachus of Rockport; a son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Pam Black of Houston, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Anne and Bob Linkous of Kentucky, Suzanne and David Clark of San Antonio, Cathy Black of Houston; a stepdaughter and her husband, Roxanne and Don Stoker of Snyder; a stepson, Loyd Bachus of Snyder; eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren, Colby Stoker of Austin, and Bailey and Justin Stoker of Snyder; and four great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial to the American Cancer Society.
Lois Noble
1928-2002
BOWIE – Lois B. Noble, the mother of Rita Knox of Snyder, died Monday, Feb. 4.
Funeral service for Mrs. Noble, 73, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Fry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Wiseman officiating. Burial was to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Born May 18, 1928 in Nocona, she had lived in Bowie for 56 years. Mrs. Noble, a homemaker, was a Baptist and a member of the Reddy McClellan VFW Post 8789 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president and poppy chairman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Garland and Lola Bell Hutson; her husband, Clarence Noble on June 14, 1995; and one brother, William Alfred Hutson.
Survivors also include two other daughters, Patsy Patterson of Bowie and Ginger Slocum of Midland; two sisters, Jo Carlisle of Bowie and Frances Hutson of Germantown, Md.; four brothers, Leroy Hutson, Charlie Hutson and Gene Hutson, all of Bowie, and Gerald Hutson of Snyder; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Maria Salas
1934-2002
BROWNFIELD – Maria Salas, the mother of Luisa McCown of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Rosary for Mrs. Salas, 68, is set for 7 this evening in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Directors.
Born Feb. 3, 1934 in Aspermont, she had lived in Brownfield since 1944 and married Luis Salas in 1948 in Brownfield.
Mrs. Salas was a homemaker and a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Cursillistas, Guadalupanas and ladies prayer group.
A son, Jesse Salas, died in 1994. She also was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Survivors include her husband, Luis Salas of Brownfield; a son, Abraham Salas of Brownfield; four other daughters, Ofelia Fonseca of Ulysses, Kan., Mary Jane Garza of Lubbock, Nancy Rivas of Hobbs, N.M., and Barbara Rivas of Brownfield; two brothers, Jesse and Pete Rodriguez of Brownfield; four sisters, Manuela Moreno of Lubbock, Jose Sansing and Tomasa Longoria of Brownfield and Anita Talmantez of Amarillo; 11 gr andchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Zimmerman
1925-2002
Annie Marie Zimmerman, former Snyder resident, died Monday, Feb. 4, after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Zimmerman, 76, was set for 2 p.m. today in Hillsdale Cemetery, near Izora, under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Elder Hugh Montgomery was to officiate.
Mrs. Zimmerman lived in Snyder many years and was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for more than 30 years. She moved to Burnet six years ago.
A son, Jimmy Cummings, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Don Cummings of Carrollton; two granddaughters, Margo M. Cummings and Elizabeth T. Dean, both of Richardson; three brothers, Bernard I. Butler and Eugene F. Butler, both of Burnet, and Clyde B. Butler of Milwaukie, Ore.; a half-sister, Jackie Kaup of Lebanon, Ore.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Bob Shroyer
1930-2002
Bobby Jack “Bob” Shroyer, 71, died this morning in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Shroyer is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with his half-brother, the Rev. Carl Shroyer of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Feb. 12, 1930 in Snyder, Mr. Shroyer was a lifelong resident of Snyder. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and had worked for J.W. McCutchen Drilling Co. for many years. He also worked overseas in Saudi Arabia and Libya.
Survivors also include his stepmother, Valree Shroyer of Snyder; and three half-sisters, Mary Frances Thomas of California, Vicky Lynn Shroyer of Houston and Brenda Burney-Kotarski of Cortez, Colo.
Rosa Hatton
1904-2002
RANGER – Rosa Hatton, 98, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, in a Fort Worth hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Hatton is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ranger First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bullock Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 20, 1904 in Stephens County, she married Belton R. Hatton on Feb. 25, 1923. He died in 1975.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Dalton and Winfred Hatton, both in 1990; a son-in-law, Johnny Young; and two great-grandsons.
Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Jenna Vee and Cyrus Miller of Arlington and Linda Young of Eastland and all formerly of Snyder; Dorthy and Dewey Godwin of Duncanville, Bernice and Bill Gildner, Peggy and Jessie Lindsey, all of Arlington, Rozelle and Joe Sklenar of Marion, Kan.; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie Hatton of Lubbock and Mary Helen Rogers and her husband, Harold, of Arlington; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Laura Arnold

ARLINGTON – Laura Glenn Arnold, a former resident of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Arlington.
Funeral service for Mrs. Arnold, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder.
Born Sept. 6, 1920 in Tyler, she was a homemaker and a member of the Lakeview Christian Church in Dallas and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Arnold, a longtime employee of Holder Construction Co.; a daughter, Bettye Parkis; and a granddaughter, Denise Mapp.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura I. Arnold of Sachse; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn J. and Ginger Arnold of Houston; two brothers, William Glenn of Shreveport and Frank Glenn of Flint, Tex.; a granddaughter, Lanez Beasley of Grand Prairie; and seven great-grandchildren.
Gerald Walton
1921-2002
Gerald Walton of Snyder died Friday, Feb. 15, in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Service for Mr. Walton, 80, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born on Aug. 1, 1921 in Snyder, he married Maggie Ornetha Inman on Sept. 11, 1942 in Snyder. She died Jan. 24, 1993. He married Pauline Withers on Dec. 28, 1996 in Snyder.
Mr. Walton was a member of the First Baptist Church. Living most of his life in Snyder, he had also lived in Houston, Fort Worth, Morton and Denver, Colo. Mr. Walton had worked for Higginbotham-Bartlett Lumber Co. and the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a lumber salesman.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Walton of Snyder; a daughter, Keitha Warren of Argyle, Tex.; two sons, Jack Walton of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gary Walton of Shirtz, Tex.; four stepsons, Billy McArthur of Leander, David McArthur and Bobby Mc-Arthur, both of Austin and Michael McArthur of Midland; one stepdaughter, Elaine Smith of Austin; two brothers, Waylon Walton of Snyder and Dale Walton of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held 6:30-7:30 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
