Lupe Morin Sr.
1922-2002
KARNES CITY -- Lupe Morin Sr., the father of Lupe Morin Jr. and Simon Morin of Snyder, died Sunday, Feb. 24, at his home in Karnes City.
Funeral service for Mr. Morin, 79, is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Cornellus Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Ploch officiating. Burial will follow in Karnes City Latin Cemetery.
Born March 25, 1922 in El Oso Community, Tex., he married Dominga Barrertez on Nov. 16, 1939. A retired rancher, he lived most of his life in Karnes City.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Nieves and Santos Garza Morin; a son, Ruben Morin; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Dominga Morin of Karnes City; two other sons, David Morin of Karnes City and Moses Morin of Port Lavaca; five daughters, Hortensia Estrada of Brownfield, Nelda Galvan and Mary Nunez, both of San Antonio, Lupe Morin of Edinburg and Kitty Morin of Karnes City; three brothers, Jose Morin, Nieves Morin Jr. and Rodrigo Morin; a sister, Maria Alonzo; two half brothers, Reyes Arrellano and Rudolfo Arrellano; a half sister, Elida Coronado; 41 grandchildren; 70 grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Will Allen
1936-2002
LAMESA - Will Allen, the brother of Elvin Allen of Snyder, died Monday, Feb. 25.
Funeral service for Mr. Allen, 65, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Terry Love officiating. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Born April 26, 1936 in Fort Sumner, N.M., he married Minnie Redman on March 18, 1955 in Post.
A resident of Welch, Mr. Allen was a truck driver for TST Paraffin and a member of the Nazarene Church.
A granddaughter preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Allen of Welch; three sons, Rex Allen of Cresson, Douglas Allen of Midland and Kenneth Allen of Lamesa; two daughters, Marilyn Lopez of Wolfforth and Gloria Mansell of Welch; six sisters, Norma Gray of Gainesville, Fay Carrol of Meadow, Frances Tivis of Portales, N.M., Wilma Yarborough of Post, Shirley Allen of Killeen and Beverly Warshaw of Copperas Cove; three other brothers, Melvin Allen of Clairemont, Earl Allen of El Centro, Calif., and Charles Allen of Bethany, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Wanda Wallace
1914-2002
COLEMAN - Wanda Wallace, the aunt of Harold Davis of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, in a Coleman nursing home.
Funeral service for Mrs. Wallace, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery.
Born Nov. 10, 1914 in Tolar, she was reared in Tolar and married Marshall Austin Wallace on July 27, 1935 in Santa Anna. He died in 2001.
A resident of Coleman County since 1935, Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and had worked with her husband in custom harvesting.
Survivors also include four nieces, Delores Tankersley of Eastland, Grovena Fry of Tolar and Dorthy Ann Davis and Bille Burke Davis, both of Houston.
Corine Eubank
1928-2002
SANTA ANNA - Corine Benge Eubank, the mother of Jana Kay Taylor of Snyder, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
Funeral service for Mrs. Eubank, 73, is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Elm Street Church of Christ with Paul Shero officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 3, 1928 in Millersview, she was a lifelong resident of Santa Anna where she graduated from high school in 1945. A retired florist, Mrs. Eubank was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include another daughter, Norma Jo Jones of Santa Anna; a son, James Richard Eubank of Christoval; a sister, Lanita Bozeman of Houston; two brothers, Charles Benge of Lubbock and Alton “Buddy” Benge of Brownwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Audeen Austin
1912-2002
SPUR -- Audeen Austin, the mother of Duffy Wilkes of Snyder, died Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Funeral service for Mrs. Austin, 89, is set for 11 a.m. Friday in the Hill Street Church of Christ with Van Cash and Larry McClenny officiating. Burial will follow in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Born May 6, 1912 in Whit, she moved with her family to Dickens County in 1915. She married Jay Austin on Oct. 8, 1933 in Spur. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Austin was a homemaker and a member of the Hill Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include another daughter, Ann Walker of Crosbyton; three brothers, Harold Simmons of Olney, George Simmons of Cisco and Phil Simmons of Weatherford; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Aurelia Almanza
1940-2002
Aurelia E. Almanza, 61, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at her home in Snyder.
Funeral Mass for Mrs. Almanza, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Father Leo Moras, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Rosary, conducted by Deacon Frank Ortegon, will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 16, 1940 in Nueces County, Mrs. Almanza was preceded in death by her parents, Florenteno and Angelita Escobedo.
Survivors include three daughters, Amanda Villa of Snyder, Adriana Davis of California and Angie Rodriguez of Stanton; a son, Adrian Almanza of Weatherford; four brothers, Florenteno Escobedo, Ruben Escobedo, Robert Escobedo and Johnny Escobedo, all of Snyder; and six grandchildren.
Veta Tompkins
1920-2002
McCAMEY -- Veta Ruth Tompkins, mother of Billie Adams of Snyder, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Lubbock.
Funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Murry Sauders officiating. Graveside service is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in the Hamlin East Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 12, 1920 in Royston, she married George J. Tompkins on Dec. 23, 1937 in Hitson, Tex. The couple moved to McCamey in 1945 where they established a White’s Auto store that they owned and operated for 54 years. Mrs. Tompkins was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Eastside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Tompkins, on March 2, 2000; and by her parents, Green Berry and Lillie Mae Phillips.
Survivors include another daughter and two sons-in-law, Jean Anne and Jim Dawson of Larrisa, Greece, and George Adams of Snyder; two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Marene Tompkins and Jack and Dorothy Tompkins, all of Houston; two brothers, Jack Phillips of Lubbock and Benson B. “Hack” Phillips of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Sonya Huisman, Jeff Adams, Scott Tompkins, David Tompkins, John Tompkins, Michael Tompkins and Barron Tompkins; and three great-grandchildren, Mikayla Huisman, Anna Huisman and Katie Adams.
Norma Martinez

Torreon Coahuila, Mexico -- Norma Martinez, sister of three Snyder residents, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, of a stroke in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico.
Funeral service for Ms. Martinez, 43, is set today in Mexico.
Survivors include two sisters, Lulu Martinez and Diana Baldwin, both of Snyder; a brother, Miguel “Kaliman” Martinez of Snyder; two children; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shorty Smith
1919-2002
SWEETWATER -- L.D. “Shorty” Smith of Sweetwater died Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Smith, 82, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. The Rev. Frankie Santiago will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Lone Wolf Cemetery in Scurry County with military rites by the Nolan County Honor Guard
Born April 28, 1919 in Palava in Fisher County, he married Mary Ann Haygood on March 10, 1950 in Scurry County.
American Campaign Medal, and a special pin worn only by those who made the Salerno Beach Head Landing.
Mr. Smith was an auto salesman for 30 years for several companies including Harry Carmichael Ford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe F. and Addie Smith; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Smith of Sweetwater; one son and daughter-in-law, Radnal and Vanda Smith of Sweetwater; one brother, Cleave Smith of Sweetwater; one sister, Reata Smith of Fort Worth; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete Beaver
1912-2002
Funeral service for Nathan Lee “Pete” Beaver of Snyder is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Don Campbell, minister of the Fluvanna Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Mr. Beaver, 89, died Monday, Jan. 14, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Born April 1, 1912 in Frederick, Okla., he married Inez Gleghorn on May 6, 1931 in Lovington, N.M. Mr. Beaver was a farmer, cotton gin manager and a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
A daughter, Betty Ann Beck, died in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Beaver of Snyder; a son, Roy Lee Beaver of Brady; a daughter, Nell Parks of Snyder; a sister, Inez Whitson of Milford; a brother, Frank Beaver of Snyder; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
