Elbert Wilson
1928-2004
BIG SPRING -- Elbert Wilson, the father of Contravis Wilson of Snyder, died Tuesday, March 16, in Big Spring.
Funeral service for Mr. Wilson, 75, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday in the Greater Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Mills officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Jackie Warren Funeral Home.
Born March 28, 1928 in Roxton, he married Arlena Simmons on Feb. 2, 1951. A U.S. Navy veteran, he moved from Midland to Big Spring in 1961 and became chef at Big Spring Country Club, retiring in 1993 after 32 years.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and Gus Wilson; two sisters, Kate and Havannah Wilson; and one daughter, Rosie Wilson.
Survivors include two other sons, Allen Wilson of Mesquite and Gregory Wilson of Midland; two daughters, Birdie Wilson of Cannon and Mamie Wilson of Midland; two stepsons, Javance Johnson and Mark Johnson, both of Midland; one stepdaughter, Othalene Johnson of Fort Worth; a sister, Alice Jones of Houston; four brothers, Burnice Wilson of Midland, McDonald Wilson and Joe Wilson, both of Oklahoma City and Lester Wilson of Big Spring; 28 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Herminia Arellano
1911-2004
Herminia Arellano died Saturday, March 13, at her home in Hermleigh.
Mass for Mrs. Arellano, 92, was set for 2 p.m. today in St. John’s Catholic Church in Hermleigh. Burial was to follow in the Hermleigh Cemetery under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home. Rosary was held Sunday.
Born Oct. 31, 1911 in Waco, she married Jose Arellano on June 6, 1931 in Banquete, Texas. He died in 1976.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Concepcion and Jesus Garza; a son, Eduardo Arellano in 1968; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice Arellano in 1974; an infant son, Juan Jose Arellano in 1932; a great-great-grandson, Jimmy Luna Jr. in 2003; and three brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elida “Lillie” and Albento Conde of Hermleigh, and Minerva and Ruben Trevino of Banquete; a special grandson who lived with her, Eduardo “Eddie“ Arellano Jr. of Hermleigh; a sister, Fransisca Salinas of Troy; seven other grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Winnie McQueen
1912-2004
COLEMAN -- Winnie McQueen, the cousin and sister-in-law of Bertha McQueen of Snyder, died Saturday, March 13, in Lawton, Okla.
Funeral service for Mrs. McQueen, 91, is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with David Ross Cathey officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery.
Born Nov. 21, 1912 in Coleman County, she was a graduate of Coleman High School and was married to Earl McQueen who died in Italy in 1944 during World War II.
Mrs. McQueen received her bachelor’s degree from Mary Hardin Baylor and her master’s degree from Texas Tech.
She was an elementary teacher and later a home economics teacher in high school, teaching in Mukewater, Burkett, Santa Anna, Post and Ballinger. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and the Elm Street Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlin and Florence Cathey; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Sandy McQueen of Lawton; two grandsons, Kurt McQueen of Lawton and Karl McQueen of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Roy Cathey of Sanuarita, Ariz., and David Ross Cathey of Lindale.
Nona Bunch
1925-2004
Funeral service for Nona Pearl Bunch, longtime Snyder resident, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Henson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bunch, 79, died Thursday, March 4, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 7, 1925 in O’Brien, she married Olin Bunch on Nov. 14, 1947 in Vernon.
Mrs. Bunch was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. At one time, Mrs. Bunch operated the Newcomers Welcome Wagon in Snyder and worked part-time for Feather Printing. She later worked in customer relations for Furr’s Supermarkets and for Lawrence IGA and was currently employed at the Scurry County Library.
Survivors include her husband, Olin Bunch of Snyder; two sons and daughters-in-law, Travis and Joan Bunch of Snyder and Win and Pam Bunch of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mike Phelan of Allen; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Lorene Southall of Brownwood, Berle and Wanda Southall of Euless and Don and Iona Southall of Potosi; grandchildren, Carly and Melissa Clark of Austin, Lindsey Bunch of San Marcos, Stacey Bunch of Lubbock and Dylan Bunch of Snyder; and a great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Clark of Austin.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church.
DeEtta Musgrove
1908-2004
SWEETWATER -- DeEtta Musgrove, the mother of Jane Scott of Snyder, died Saturday, Feb. 28, in Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, N.M.
Service for Mrs. Musgrove is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sweetwater Cemetery.
Born on May 26, 1908, Mrs. Musgrove had lived in Sweetwater most of her life, and had worked in the welfare department for many years before moving to Carlsbad some five years ago.
Survivors include two sons, R.D. Samuels of Kansas City and Robert Musgrove of Minnesota; another daughter, Jean Evans of Carlsbad; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation is set from 7-8 this evening at the funeral home.
Jake Jacobs
1917-2004
LUFKIN -- Graveside service for Clark “Jake” Jacobs, 87, of Lufkin, formerly of Lake Mexia will be held Thursday, March 4, 2004, at 4 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas with Church of Christ Elder Steve Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service.
Mr. Jacobs was born January 6, 1917 in Indian Gap, Texas to the late Aubrey A. and Lila (Shipman) Jacobs and died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in Lufkin, where he had resided for the past three years.
Mr. Jacobs was a graduate of Texas A&M University in 1941, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy and reached the rank of Lt. Senior Grade. He commanded a control ship during the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach during World War II. After the war he began his career as an engineer with the United States Soil Conservation Service. He later became the County Engineer for Limestone County, a position he held for 20 years. After retiring from the county, he began working for Frost Construction until his second retirement.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Paula Jacobs of Lufkin; two grandsons, Patrick Jacobs and wife, Jeanette of Lufkin and John Jacobs of Austin; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Elise Jacobs of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Betty Jacobs of Dallas; sisters, Angelea Carey and husband, Arvis and Jamie Gilbreath, all of Snyder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wilson Jacobs in 1995; his son, Larry Jacobs in 1999; his sister Edith Jacobs Beavers; and brother, Audrey A. Jacobs.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home in Lufkin.

Nora Gray

Nora Juanita Gray, 87, died Friday, March 12, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Gray is set for 2 p.m. Monday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles Day, pastor of the Ave. D Baptist Church, will officiate and interment will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Oct. 14, 1916 in Matador, she married C.D. Gray Sr. on May 30, 1964 in Snyder. He died March 28, 2001.
Mrs. Gray was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Charlie Rhodes; and one step granddaughter, Becky Porter.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Diana Williamson of Snyder and Gene Williamson of Elizabeth, Colo.; five grandchildren, Tammy Miller, DeWayne Williamson, both of Lubbock, and Jeff, Lance and Chandler Williamson, all of Colorado; two stepsons, C.D. Gray and Don Gray, both of Snyder; six great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary Westbrook
1941-2004
STEPHENVILLE -- Mary Ann Westbrook, the sister-in-law of Frank and Carol Miller of Snyder, died Friday, March 12, in a Dallas hospital.
Funeral service for Mrs. Westbrook, 62, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Emil Becker officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Miles Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lacy Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 17, 1941 in Tom Green County, she married Stanley Westbrook on Nov. 12, 1959 in Clovis, N.M.
Mrs. Westbrook was retired from Tarleton State University after serving as librarian for 24 years. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, an alumni member of Alpha Gamma Delta and a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Key Arrott; and a sister, Nancy Arrott.
Survivors include a husband, Stanley Westbrook of Stephenville; a son, Jason Westbrook of Stephenville; three daughters, Amy Dillon of Austin, Ange Wilkins of Pflugerville, Andrea Westbrook of Corinth; her father, J.E. Arrott of Orient; a brother, Jimmy Arrott of Ozona; and six grandchildren.
Mary Greenfield
1916-2004
Mary Mayo Greenfield, a lifelong resident of Hermleigh, died Wednesday, March 3, in Snyder Oaks Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Graveside service for Mrs. Greenfield, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Pyron Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Torres, Home Hospice chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born May 9, 1916 in Hermleigh, she married Gaither Mayo on Oct. 4, 1933 in Snyder. He died Dec. 18, 1977. She married Alton Greenfield who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Jimmy Cooper of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Linda Mayo of Hermleigh; a sister, Maurine Wall of Amarillo; and three grandchildren, Alicia Knight of Bolder, Colo., Darrell Mayo of Hermleigh and LeAnn Freytag of Halletsville.
