Vernon Pindell
1914-2003
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Vernon “Clay” Pindell, stepfather of Bonnie Allred of Snyder, died Monday, July 21, at his home from complications of cancer.
Mr. Pindell, 62, was cremated and no memorial service is set at this time.
A Washington, D.C. native, Mr. Pindell retired from the U.S. Department of Interior in 1996. He attended Holy Trinity School in Georgetown and was a member of the Western High School class of 1959.
Mr. Pindell was active in many organizations and volunteer efforts, including the Knights of Columbus, Hexagon, Christmas in April and Special Olympics.
Survivors include his father, Charles Pindell of Baltimore, Md., his wife, Connie Pindell of Alexandria; a daughter, Danielle Pindell of Washington, D.C.; and three other stepdaughters, Debra Mandt of Tampa, Fla., and Joy Claypool and Cathy Swenson, both of Kearney, Neb.
Oma Duff
1916-2003
PONCA CITY, Okla. -- Oma Duff, former Scurry County educator, died Tuesday, July 22, at her home in Ponca City.
Her body was donated to science. A memorial service for Mrs. Duff, 87, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Born Aug. 14, 1916 in Ranger Lake, N.M, she married H.R. Duff on Dec. 4, 1948 in Camp Springs. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Duff served in the WACs during World War II and taught school at Hobbs and Hermleigh. She and her husband had resided in Lubbock for a number of years and transferred to Roswell for 10 years and she later moved to Ponca City.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bea Kay Ward of Winfield, Kan.; a brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Mary Lou Bavousette of Weatherford; a sister-in-law, Alta Bavousette of Snyder; several nieces and nephews including Dan and Carla Bavousette of Hermleigh; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Dusty Ward of Winfield, Kan.
Todd Edgar

ABILENE -- Todd Verlene Edgar, brother of Staci Bollinger of Snyder, died Wednesday, July 16, in Buffalo Gap.
Funeral service for Mr. Edgar, 32, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Payne and Dr. Mike Stedham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 24, 1971 in Levelland, he attended Jim Ned Schools through the 10th grade and graduated from Abilene Cooper High School. A Baptist, Mr. Edgar was a senior operator for Schlumberger and had recently moved to Graham.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Pat and Corky Boland of Abilene; his father, George Verlene Edgar Jr. of Belle Chase, La.; a brother-in-law, Charles Bollinger of Snyder; and a niece and nephew, Brooklyn and Brent Bollinger of Snyder; an uncle, Sid Edgar of Abilene; and an aunt, Donnie McDowell of Yantis.

Adon DeLoera
1970-2003
COLORADO CITY -- Rosary for Adon DeLoera, 32, is set for 7 this evening in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery.
Mr. DeLoera died Friday, July 18, in Mitchell County Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1970 in Colorado City, Mr. DeLoera was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked in road construction and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Christina Mendoza of Wylie; a daughter, Deserae DeLoera of Wylie; a son, Damian Adon DeLoera of Wylie; his parents, Thomas and Virginia DeLoera of Colorado City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Liz DeLoera of Snyder, Rey and Linda DeLoera of Boerne and Manuel and Alice DeLoera of Loraine; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Craig Randolph of Snyder, Janie and Steve Kiser of Nevada, Texas and Mary Anne and Marty Davila of Colorado City; and several nieces and nephews.
Bessie Hodnett

Bessie Sorrells Hodnett of Big Spring died Sunday, July 20, in Snyder Oaks Care Center.
Graveside service for Mrs. Hodnett, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring with the Rev. Walter McCall, Odyssey Hospice chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 11, 1922 in Somerset, Ky. she married Haril James Hodnett on Feb. 22, 1946 in Big Spring. He died Sept. 20, 1973.
Mrs. Hodnett, a Baptist, was also preceded in death by three husbands, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Lynn Sorrells of Killeen, Clifford Fountain of Sachse, Texas and Jody Hodnett of Big Spring; a daughter, Linda Tibbetts of Big Spring; a sister, Polly Little of Alabama; four brothers, Jimmy Thomas of Oklahoma City, David Thomas of Big Spring and Mike Thomas and Don Thomas, both of Sweetwater; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Shelton

Mary Lou Shelton of Lubbock, mother of Christy Thompson of Snyder, died this morning in Lubbock.
Services are pending for Mrs. Shelton, 78, at Rix Funeral Directors in Lubbock.
Born on Sept. 29, 1925, she married Travis Shelton on April 14, 1946. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.
Also surviving is another daughter, Shelly Livingston of Washington, D.C.; a son, Steve Shelton of Wichita Falls; a son-in-law, Dr. Paul Thompson of Snyder; and four grandchildren.
Ray Patel

Rashmikant S. “Ray” Patel, owner and manager of the Best Western in Snyder, died Saturday, July 19, in a Lubbock hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Patel, 47, was set for 11 a.m. today in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel. His body will be cremated.
Mary Shelton

Mary Lou Shelton, mother of Christy Thompson of Snyder, died Tuesday, July 22, in Lubbock.
Funeral service for Mrs. Shelton, 78, is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Westminister Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
Born Sept. 29, 1924 in Wichita, Kan., she attended public school in Kansas and San Antonio and earned her degree in business from Texas Tech in 1943.
Following graduation, she worked for IBM in New York City and in Houston. She married Travis Shelton on April 14, 1946 in Lubbock. He died July 11, 2003.
A member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Shelton traveled extensively and then presented programs on those travels. She also was a member of the Junior League of Lubbock, the Lubbock Woman’s Club and the Trowel and Error Garden Club.
Survivors include another daughter, Shelly Livingston of Washington, D.C.; a son, Steve Shelton of Wichita Falls; two sons-in-law, Dr. Paul Thompson of Snyder and Gill Livingston of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.
Rosa Vickers

Rosa Faye Vickers, the sister of James W. Lee of Snyder, died Monday, July 21.
Graveside service for Mrs. Vickers, 82, is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Born May 27, 1921 in Mineral Wells, she married Earnest Hurley Vickers on Nov. 6, 1938 in Jayton. He preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Monty Edgar and Ada May Lee; and three sisters, Myrtle May Sartain, Mary Ethel Thomas and Edgar Louise Lee.
A homemaker, Mrs. Vickers also had worked as a store clerk and police dispatcher.
Survivors also include two daughters, Glenda Dixon of Odessa and Nancy Vickers of Odessa; three sons, Hurley Dwayne Vickers and Ernest Vickers, both of Odessa, Gary Vickers of McCamey; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Tucker

Mary Tucker, a former resident of Snyder, died, Saturday, July 19, at her home in Andrews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Tucker, 87, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Ted Short and Bill Melton officiating. Interment was to follow in the Andrews West Cemetery under the direction of McNett Fun-eral Home.
Born Feb. 18, 1916 in Fredrick, Okla., she married Eldon “Howard” Tucker on April 11, 1936 in Hobart, Okla.
The Tuckers moved to Andrews from Snyder in 1961. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Mrs. Tucker had worked as a nurses’ aide and was a member of the hospital auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Tucker of Andrews; two sons, Gerry Tucker and Lee Van Tucker, both of Andrews; a da ughter, Michael Ann Hall of Streetman, Texas; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
