Oma Duff
1916-2003
PONCA CITY, Okla. -- Oma Duff, former Scurry County educator, died Tuesday, July 22, at her home in Ponca City.
A memorial service for Mrs. Duff, 86, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church in Ponca City. The Rev. Jack Shamburger will preside. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Born Aug. 14, 1916 in Ranger Lake, N.M, she was reared in the Texas panhandle and graduated from two separate high schools, Hobbs, Texas in 1932 and Hermleigh in 1933. She attended Sul Ross College in Alpine and taught school in Hobbs prior to earning a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.
Mrs. Duff entered the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corp on Aug. 3, 1943 and served as clerk typist until her honorable discharge on Nov. 22, 1945. She married H.T. Duff on Dec. 4, 1948 at Camp Springs.
She was employed with the Civil Service at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, retiring in 1979. She also had worked for a time with the Soil Conservation Dept. in Lubbock. Mrs. Duff was secretary of the eighth grade Sunday school classes in Lubbock and Slaton for 28 years.
Mrs. Duff was a member of the Christian Women’s Club of Roswell, N.M., and also had served as a Pink Lady at both Lubbock and Roswell. She moved with her husband to Ponca City in 1999 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Florence (Harris) Bavousett; two sisters, Ora Bavousett and Betty Crume; and four brothers, Earl, Roe, Scott and Steve Bavousett.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, H.T. Duff; one daughter and son-in-law, Bea Kay and Robert Ward of Winfield, Kan.; one brother, Lynn Bavousett of Weatherford; and two grandchildren, Dustin Ward of Winfield, Kan., and Amanda Ward of Arlington.

Dean Alexander
1939-2003
SAN ANGELO -- Dean Alexander, the father of the Rev. Rocky Alexander of Ira, died Thursday, July 24, at his home in San Angelo.
Funeral service for Mr. Alexander, 64, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. The Revs. Russ Frazier and George Frazier will officiate. Burial will follow in the Miles Cemetery.
Born May 11, 1939 in San Saba, he worked at Cactus No. 7 for 12 years, at Del-Tex Candies for 15 years and for Central Freight Line for 15 years, retiring in 1999.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors also include his wife of 47 years, Sue Alexander of San Angelo; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and C.W. Porter of San Angelo; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Alexander of Ira; a sister-in-law, Frances Alexander of San Angelo; a brother-in-law and his wife, Billy and Virginia Lowrey; and two grandchildren, Amanda Alexander of Ira and Erica Fowler of San Angelo.
Cora Randell
1910-2003
Cora Belle Randell, a former Snyder resident, died Friday, July 25, in Park Manor Nursing Home in Conroe.
Funeral service for Mrs. Randell, 92, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Tom Holcomb, East Side Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Born Dec. 8, 1910 in Gunter, Texas, she married Hollis Randell on Dec. 14, 1928 in Snyder. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Randell also was preceded in death by a son, Dusty Randell; and a sister, Pauline Leamon.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Owen McCombs of Corsicana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Melba Taylor
1921-2003
MORTON -- Melba Taylor, the mother of Kenneth Taylor of Snyder, died Thursday, July 24, in Little Rock, Ark.
Funeral service for Mrs. Taylor, 82, is set for 2 p.m. Monday in the First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton with the Rev. James Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the Morton Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Born April 30, 1921 in Pecan Gap, Texas, she married Amos Taylor on July 20, 1940 in Morton.
Mrs. Taylor had lived in Morton since moving from Lubbock County in 1938. She was co-owner of the Morton Auto Parts Store and the Taylor and Son Furniture Store. A member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, she also was a member of the Morton Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include two other sons and their spouses, Jimmy and Dorothy Taylor of Ralls and Jerry and Cindy Taylor of Post; another daughter-in-law, Carolyn Taylor of Snyder; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Bill Miller of DeKalb and Betty and James McCuller of Simms, Texas; a sister, Bernice Dancer of Granbury; a brother, J. L. Merrill of Frederick, Okla.; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Hazel Rannefeld
1925-2003
Hazel Marie Rannefeld, a resident of Snyder since 1950, died Saturday, July 26, at her home in Snyder after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Rannefeld, 78, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Jim Wright, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Roscoe Cemetery.
Born May 2, 1925 in Rotan, she was a 1942 graduate of Sweetwater High School and attended San Angelo Junior College.
She married Vernon O. Rannefeld on July 27, 1944 in Roscoe. They moved to Snyder in 1950 and were owners and operators of Snyder Heating and Air Conditioning until their retirement on March 15, 1989.
A charter member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Mrs. Rannefeld served as church treasurer for 15 years and was the first woman to serve on the church council.
A son, Terry Wayne Rannefeld preceded her in death, on July 31, 1988.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Rannefeld of Snyder; a daughter, Kay Holder of Midland; a son, James W. Rannefeld of Taos, N.M.; two sisters, Wilma L. Key of Dallas and Mabel L. Brown of Crane; two brothers, John E. Loving of Los Alamos, N.M., and James C. Loving of Georgetown; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Minnie Bollinger
1925-2003
Minnie Bollinger, 77, died Sunday, July 27, at her home in Snyder after a sudden illness.
Services for Mrs. Bollinger are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 28, 1925 in Baird, she married Elvis Benton “Bo” Bollinger on Oct. 29, 1959 in Clovis, N.M. He died in 1991.
A homemaker, Mrs. Bollinger was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Walker of Snyder and Sandra Tschirhart and husband Tony of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Patricia Woodard and husband Stean; two stepsons and their wives, Benny and Darlene Bollinger and Donnie and Karen Bollinger, all of Snyder; a sister, Winnie Patterson of Hobbs, N.M.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Mary Maxwell

DALLAS – Mary Maxwell, the sister of Floyda Collins of Snyder, died Tuesday, July 22, in Chicago.
Funeral service for Mrs. Maxwell, 43, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Dallas.
Born Dec. 9, 1959 in Colorado City, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elroy Devorce.
A former resident of Colorado City, she was the daughter of L.C. and Verna Mae Devorce of Colorado City.
Netty McDaniel
1921-2003
ROTAN -- Netty Lois McDaniel of Rotan, a former Snyder resident, died Friday, July 25, in Brownfield.
Graveside service for Mrs. McDaniel, 81, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan with Brett Atkins officiating. Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born Nov. 12, 1921 in Rotan, she married Woodrow Pickens McDaniel on Jan. 6, 1940. They had lived in Rio Vista, Andrews, Snyder and Brownfield. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Brownfield and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. McDaniel retired as line foreman at Walls Industries.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Absolum Alexander and Mary Beatrice (Kinsey) Hull; three brothers, J.L., Dewey and Waylon Hull; three sisters, Linda Pearl Feucht, Gladys Farrar and Stella Goodwin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bob Woodson of Brownfield; two brothers, Allen Hull of Rotan and Ben Hull of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Betty McDaniel of Rotan; two grandsons, Daniel and Tony Woodson; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarence Goebel

HASKELL -- Services are pending at Holden Funeral Home in Haskell for Clarence Goebel, former Hermleigh farmer.
Mr. Goebel, 84, died Sunday, July 27, in Rice Springs Nursing Home.
Survivors include two sisters, Dora Woellert of Snyder and Nell Gill of Victoria.
