Mike Mullins
1952-2003
PAMPA -- Michael James “Mike” Mullins, the nephew of three Scurry County residents, died Monday, June 2, in Lakewood, Colo.
Funeral service for Mr. Mullins, 50, was set for 2 p.m. today in the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Burial was to follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Born July 25, 1952 in Snyder, he moved to Pampa the same year. He was a 1970 graduate of Pampa High School and a 1975 graduate of West Texas State University with a degree in art and psychology.
Mr. Mullins had been a resident of Lakewood for many years and worked as a tax accountant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Mullins in 1990; and a sister, Helen Mullins in 1958.
Survivors include his mother, Rubye Mullins of Pampa; four aunts and an uncle, Christine Stuard of Snyder, Barbara Cunyus and Rita Webster, both of Lockney, and Dale and Billie Sue Stuard of Snyder.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, Box 2680 in N. Canton, Ohio 44720; or to the First United Methodist Church, Box 1981 in Pampa, 79066.

Mildred Morrison
1921-2003
COLEMAN -- Mildred Morrison, the grandmother of Samantha Dillaha of Snyder, died Thursday, June 5.
Funeral service for Mrs. Morrison, 82, is set for 10 a.m. Monday in the Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Ferris Akins officiating. Burial will follow in the Crews Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 27, 1921, she attended Talpa-Centennial School and married H.P. Morrison at age 16.
Mrs. Morrison graduated from Texas Christian University and was a retired elementary school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. H.P. Morrison; her parents, Elsie and Millard Kerby; two brothers, Marion and Arthur Kerby; and a sister, Vivian Brevard.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Maurine and Robert Scott of Sweetwater, a grandson, Bradley Scott of Norton, Kan.; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Scott.

Mrs. Villanueva
1940-2003
Esperanza “Hope” Romero Villanueva of Hermleigh went to walk with the Lord on Monday, June 9, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
A prayer service for Mrs. Villanueva, 63, is set for 7 this evening in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Randy Asebedo, pastor of the Lord’s Supper Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hermleigh Cemetery.
Born Feb. 16, 1940 in Snyder, she married Paul Villanueva Sr. on June 23, 1956 in Snyder.
Mrs. Villanueva, a homemaker, was preceded in death by both parents, Apolinar and Matilda Romero.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Villanueva of Hermleigh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Minnie Villanueva of Austin, Isreal “Speedy” and Bertha Villanueva of San Antonio, and Paul and Dolores Landin of Hermleigh; four daughters, Mary Villanueva, Minerva Fuentez and Rebecca Sookraj, all of Snyder, and Esmeralda Villanueva of Waco; two brothers, Pablo Romer of Snyder and Isabel “Chavel” Romero of Lufkin; three sisters, Gloria Hernandez and Mary Bacerra, both of Snyder, and Emma Guzman of Hermleigh; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

L.B. Taylor
1912-2003
L.B. Taylor, a native of Scurry County, died this morning in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Taylor, 90, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Tom Holcomb, minister of the East Side Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.
Born Nov. 12, 1912 in Snyder, he married Katherine Estalene Grant on Oct. 26, 1935 in Snyder.
Mr. Taylor was a retired welder and industrial mechanic and was a member of the East Side Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Francine High in 1994; and a sister, Eunice Williamson.
Survivors include his wife, Estalene Taylor of Snyder; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Jack Chasteen of Snyder and Donna Jayne and Kelly Morgan of El Reno, Okla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Mary Taylor of Conroe; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Nova Henderson
1920-2003
Nova Henderson, 83, died this morning in Brighton Gardens Care Center in San Antonio after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Henderson is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Rex Reynolds, pastor of the Hermleigh First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pyron Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, P.T. Henderson of San Antonio; a son, Larry Henderson of San Antonio; and a sister, Katherine Wemken of Hermleigh.

Jake Phillips
1916-2003
NATCHITOCHES, La. -- James W. “Jake” Phillips, a former resident of Snyder, died Sunday, June 8, in the Natchitoches Parish Hospital.
Funeral service for Mr. Phillips, 87, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Doug Cain and James Poole officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Lawn Cemetery.
Born Jan. 12, 1916 in Andrews, he was a 1938 graduate of McMurry College. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters from 1942-55 and was discharged as a Lt. Commander.
Mr. Phillips worked for the Veterans Administration in Shreveport before moving to Snyder in 1950. In Snyder, he owned a hardware store and served on the Snyder school board from 1958-61. He served on the Snyder City Council and was a member of the Rotary Club.
He moved to Natchitoches in 1967 where was employed by Daray Motor Company and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Phillips of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Williams of Shreveport and Chere Wharry of Deer Park; two sisters, Mable Phillips of Abilene and Margaret Bounds of Irving; two brothers, R.M. Phillips of Fort Worth and Buster Phillips of Scottsburg, Ind.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gene Wilson
1938-2003
SINTON - F.E. “Gene” Wilson, the father of Troy Wilson of Snyder, died Sunday, June 8, in a Corpus Christi hospital after a sudden illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Wilson, 64, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Odem Church of Christ with Bob Eads officiating. Burial will follow in the Sinton Cemetery under the direction of Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson had lived in the Sinton area and had been employed by Citgo Refinery for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Odem Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Harlene Wilson of Sinton; two other sons, Brian Wilson of Sinton and Brade Wilson of Austin; a daughter-in-law, Beth Wilson of Snyder; and three grandchildren, Haley, Skylar and Logan Wilson, all of Snyder.

Winslow Hill
1925-2003
Winslow Smith Hill died suddenly at his home in Freeport, Maine on Friday, June 6, 2003.
He was born on September 11, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas to Bertha Smith Hill and Mark Lafayette Hill. He spent most of his growing up years in Yeadon, PA and shortly after his graduation from Yeadon High in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. They sent him to Trinity College in Connecticut and later transferred him to Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts where he was graduated in 1945 with a degree in Naval Engineering.
He served in the navy as a Lieutenant J.G. and after World War II, he returned to Tufts and received a second degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947.
He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation for thirty-four years at which time he retired and with a partner founded his own company, Computer Aid. The company designed computer programs for other businesses. He lived for many years in Lebanon, Pennsylvania with his first wife, Janet B. (Round) Hill and raised three daughters. While there they worked tirelessly for the Good Samaritan Hospital Street Fair.
He was a supporter of many good causes and worked industriously for the Boy Scouts of America and for the Y.M.C.A. The Boy Scouts made him an Eagle Scout in 1995 in appreciation of his work for them. He was an active Rotarian in Bethlehem, PA., Snyder, TX. and in Brunswick, Maine and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He leaves a legacy of three perpetual scholarships in Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University.
Shortly before he passed away he received some exciting and welcome news. His grandchild, Betsy Loomis, called to tell him that he was to be a great-grandfather in December. He was elated.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet; his sister, Betty Lu Teunis; and his brother, Mark Lafayette Hill, Jr.
In 1997 he married Marilyn Bruce True of Freeport, Maine, who survives him. He leaves three daughters, Martha Hill and her husband Bill Baker, Katherine Dunlevey and her husband, Frank, and Susan Smutz and her husband Pat; two step daughters, Karen M. True and her husband Tessema Assamnew and Nancy B. True and her husband Steven Herzenberg; as well as ten grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service at the South Freeport United Church of Christ on South Freeport Road in South Freeport on Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Discovery Service Projects, c/o Rev. Rowland Carlson, Director, 306 Rolling Hills Road, Pipersville, PA 18947 or any charity of your choice.

Francisco Cantu
1914-2003
SWEETWATER – Francisco G. Cantu, the father of three Snyder residents, died Saturday, June 7, at his home in Longworth.
Rosary for Mr. Cantu, 88, is set for 7 this evening in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service for Mr. Cantu, 88, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Rodriquez officiating. Burial will follow in the Palava Cemetery.
Born Oct. 4, 1914 in Mexico, he married Lala Aguilar on Feb. 20, 1940 in Edinburg.
A resident of Longworth since 1947, Mr. Cantu was a self-employed farmer and also worked for Wendell Kent, Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill and National Rail Car before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elva Cantu; and two grandsons, Rudy Cantu and Gilbert Ray Cantu.
Survivors include his wife, Lala Cantu of Longworth; seven sons, Roy Cantu of Snyder, Frank Cantu, Albaro Cantu, Lupe Cantu, Roland Cantu, Adam Cantu and Arthur Cantu, all of Sweetwater; four daughters, Macy Gutierrez and Solia Gutierrez, both of Snyder, Myra Pena of Lubbock and Delia Ruiz of Sweetwater; 31 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
